Chapter 243 What's a second marriage?

The old lady sighed rather sadly, "I was hoping to introduce you to my grandson."

She took Mingyao's arm and said sincerely, "You're still young, and you can turn back in time if your marriage is unhappy."

"You must never let feelings make you soft-hearted towards bad men. There are plenty of good men in the world, and my grandson is one of them."

Mingyao couldn't help but laugh, "Grandma, if I get divorced, I'll be remarried."

The old lady said dismissively, "What's wrong with a second marriage?"

"As long as the person is good, who cares how many times they've been married?"

Mingyao was surprised by the old lady's views; many young people were not as open-minded as she was.

With a grandmother like that, her grandson is bound to be good too.

The old lady looked at Mingyao and said regretfully, "I have many children, and one of them is already married. Otherwise, I would have introduced you to him first!"

"Grandma, I'm practically a hot commodity in your eyes."

"You're a beautiful and kind girl. It wouldn't be an exaggeration to introduce you to all the good men in the world."

Chatting with the old lady, Mingyao felt no age difference at all; it was like chatting with her best friend.

Upon arriving at the hospital, Mingyao went to wash the fruit first, and the old lady reluctantly parted ways with her.

In order to meet again, the old lady specially kept Mingyao's contact information.

Mingyao prepared fruit and went to see Pei Siyu first.

Pei Siyu forced himself to sit on the hospital bed. When he saw Mingyao come in, he first asked her why she was so late.

Mingyao inserted toothpicks into the sliced pear and fed it to Pei Siyu's mouth.

"A minor altercation occurred at the fruit shop."

Pei Siyu, with a pear in his mouth, mumbled, "My grandmother has arrived at the hospital; she wants to see you."

As he spoke, he threw back the covers and got out of bed.

Mingyao pressed down on his shoulder and said angrily, "Your wound just got stitched up, sit up straight!"

Her attitude was very firm, and her tone left no room for argument: "I'll go see her in a bit."

Pei Siyu coughed twice. "I'm worried something might happen if you meet her by yourself. Let me accompany you."

Mingyao put her hands on her hips and said angrily, "I'm not a child anymore, you don't need to do everything for me!"

"As long as Grandma is reasonable, nothing unexpected will happen."

Pei Siyu looked at Mingyao, who seemed about to speak but hesitated. She covered Pei Siyu's mouth and said, "Don't say anything, I'll go now."

She instructed her assistant to keep a close eye on Pei Siyu and prevent him from getting out of bed!

Mingyao stood nervously outside Meng Zhenzhen's hospital room, holding a bowl of fruit salad.

She took a breath, pushed open the door, and found that Meng Zhenzhen was the only one in the ward.

Meng Zhenzhen ate the fruit salad with gusto, her cheeks bulging. "Sister Su, my grandma was just talking about you."

Mingyao nodded, feigning composure, "Pei Siyu has already told me."

"My brother is awake?"

"Yes, it's all over now."

"Great! I'll go get checked out after I finish eating!"

Mingyao noticed that there were several plates on the tea table, filled with large pears and oranges.

Mingyao gasped. Could it really be such a coincidence?

The next second, the old lady's muttering came from outside the ward: "She's so badly injured, yet she still insisted on coming with me to see her."

"Am I a monster? Would I eat your precious wife?"

Pei Siyu said weakly, "Grandma, she's rather timid."

The old lady snorted and said aggrievedly, "You're just afraid I'll bully her."

"Hey, you little rascal, you've forgotten about this old woman as soon as you got a wife. I don't know what's so charming about that girl that you're so infatuated with her that you don't even care about your health and want to be with her!"

The old woman's tone was strange; even a fool could understand the hidden meaning in her words.

The ward door creaked open.

"I'd like to see just how capable this little girl really is..."

Mingyao happened to turn around and met the old lady's eyes.

The old lady froze, swallowing the word "endure" that was on the tip of her tongue.

Her face gradually darkened: "It was you!"

Pei Siyu and Meng Zhenzhen were somewhat surprised, not expecting that she had actually met Ming Yao before.

Meeting the old lady's displeased gaze, Mingyao felt a headache coming on.

The old lady seemed to have misunderstood something.

Mingyao perked up, smiled, and greeted the old lady very sincerely.

"Grandma, let me reintroduce you."

"My name is Su Xueya, and I am Pei Siyu's wife. I am very happy to meet you."

Meng Zhenzhen swallowed the last bite of fruit, looked at her grandmother and then at Mingyao, as if she understood something.

"Grandma, you're saying the lady you met at the fruit shop was Sister Su, right?"

The old lady pushed Pei Siyu's wheelchair into the ward and said irritably, "Isn't that right?"

She crossed her arms, her eyes filled with anger as she looked at Mingyao.

"Little brat, did you already know who I am?"

Before Mingyao could answer, Pei Siyu pushed the wheelchair to Mingyao's side. "Grandma, she has never even seen your photo. There's no way she would know your identity."

He held Mingyao's hand tightly. "If Grandma insists on misunderstanding Xiaoxue based on a biased view, I will not come home again, so as not to disturb your peace."

Upon seeing Pei Siyu speak up for Mingyao, the old lady's eyes immediately reddened.

"you!"

Tears streamed down her face as she choked back sobs as she accused Pei Siyu.

"I haven't even said anything to her yet, and you treat me like this?"

The old woman wept bitterly, her frail body trembling as if she were a fragile piece of glass.

Pei Siyu held Mingyao's hand tightly. Although he felt sorry for the old lady, he did not back down in the slightest.

The old lady leaned limply against the chair, heartbroken.

"You've been married to Xiao Su for so long, and you haven't even taken her to meet me and your grandfather."
