The driver gave instructions.
Mingyao stared at him with deep eyes, trying to glean some other information from his face.
The driver glanced at Mingyao out of the corner of his eye through the rearview mirror and asked, "Miss, what's wrong?"
"nothing."
Mingyao looked away, gazing at the scenery flashing past the car window.
The driver seems to be fine so far; it looks like he's just been thinking about her too much.
When they arrived at their destination, the driver looked around and found that no one was there.
"Girl, why don't I go with you?"
Mingyao immediately refused: "No need."
"Uncle, here's your money."
The man paused for a moment, then took the fare.
Mingyao had only taken two steps when the uncle called out to her, "Miss, let me give you my contact information."
“I know this area very well. If you run into any trouble, remember to call me.”
He wrote his phone number on a piece of paper, handed it to Mingyao, and instructed her, "Make sure you remember it."
Mingyao looked at the uncle with a puzzled expression. The uncle smiled, got into the car, and drove away.
Mingyao stared at the direction the taxi had gone, her eyes narrowing.
This older man might know something.
Mingyao stood under the streetlight and glanced at the time; there were still twenty minutes left.
Logically speaking, Pei Zhao should have arrived by now.
Mingyao called Pei Zhao, but no one answered.
She sent Pei Zhao a text message out of concern, but the message remained unread.
Pei Zhao was driving his motorcycle much faster than her; he shouldn't still be driving.
An uneasy feeling began to spread in Mingyao's heart. She curled her hands up, feeling a little regretful.
Wasn't she too reckless?
