The Imperial Study.
A soft knocking sounded at the door.
"Go in." Sheng Chuyi was used to it.
Every night, the Empress Dowager would send someone to bring her a bowl of hot soup.
"Greetings, Your Highness. This is a fish soup prepared by Prince An. Please enjoy it," said Chef Li respectfully, holding the fish soup.
Upon hearing this, Sheng Chuyi was slightly taken aback. It was actually something he had ordered the imperial kitchen to make?
"Are you talking about Prince An?" Sheng Chuyi thought he had misheard and asked again to confirm.
"Your Highness, it is indeed Prince An. After entering the palace, Prince An went straight to the Imperial Kitchen and specifically instructed me on the cooking method. I spent half the night simmering it to make this bowl. Please try it, Your Highness." Chef Li was also a little apprehensive.
After all, Prince An was far away on the frontier, and his sudden appearance in the capital without summons filled him with trepidation.
I originally intended to pretend I didn't see it, but Prince An is such a despicable person.
They forced him to swear an oath by his own people to guarantee the completion of the mission.
Therefore, he had to personally serve the bowl of fish soup to His Highness the Crown Prince and watch him finish it before he would let him go.
Fortunately, he knew a little about medicine and examined the fish several times. It turned out the fish was non-toxic. Otherwise, even if he had been killed, he wouldn't have dared to serve it to His Highness.
Sheng Chuyi waved his hand, but Chef Li did not respond.
"What are you doing? Aren't you going to serve this to His Highness the Crown Prince? Why are you spacing out?" A young eunuch who had come in with Chef Li quickly reminded him.
After realizing what was happening, Chef Li quickly stepped forward and placed the fish soup in front of Sheng Chuyi.
When Sheng Chuyi saw the fish soup and smelled it, it did indeed look delicious. He picked up the bowl, scooped a spoonful, and put it in his mouth.
His eyes lit up; the taste was indeed quite good.
I simply put down the spoon, finished the drink in a few gulps, and still felt a little unsatisfied.
Chef Li breathed a sigh of relief when he saw that the task was completed.
But looking at Sheng Chuyi, who still seemed unsatisfied, he could only bite the bullet and say, "Prince An instructed that if the fish soup is reduced to this small bowl, it's considered a success, so..."
Upon hearing this, Sheng Chuyi gave a light snort, knowing that he had no good intentions.
He gives people fish soup, but doesn't let them drink their fill. What a stingy person!
"Alright, step back." Sheng Chuyi waved his hand, seeking peace of mind out of sight, out of mind.
After Chef Li left, Sheng Chuyi continued to review the memorials with his head down.
The next day, when Sheng Chuyi woke up, he felt a headache.
He raised his head and stretched.
Hmm, how did I fall asleep on the table?
He stood up and, upon seeing the blinding sunlight, immediately knew something was wrong.
"Little Dezi, Little Dezi, hurry up and help this prince change his clothes," Sheng Chuyi shouted towards the door.
When he got to the inner room, he found there was no response from outside.
He was startled and quickly went to the door, opened it, and saw that the guards at the door were all lying on the ground.
He rushed forward to check and found that the baby was still breathing.
He stood up and suddenly heard the distant sound of a horn.
This is the bugle call signaling the army's departure.
Suddenly, a flash of inspiration struck him, and his eyes immediately turned cold.
Saint Chuli!
How dare you?
They actually dared to put drugs in his fish soup.
Is he tired of living?
Sheng Chuyi clenched his fists angrily.
Just then, Xiao Dezi dashed up the high steps with incredible speed.
His face was full of anxiety as he ran and shouted, "Your Highness, Your Highness, the Prince has left you a letter!"
By the time he reached Sheng Chuyi, he was panting heavily, his chest heaving violently.
Sheng Chuyi frowned slightly. "Where did you go?"
As he spoke, he reached out and took the letter.
He looked at Xiao Dezi with icy eyes, a hint of dissatisfaction and suspicion in his gaze.
Seeing this, Xiao Dezi panicked and immediately knelt down with a thud, pressing his forehead tightly to the ground. His voice trembled as he said, "Your Highness, please forgive me. Last night, I saw that Your Highness was sleeping soundly and I was afraid of disturbing your rest, so I did not dare to wake you rashly."
Early this morning, I rushed to the Imperial Study and carefully instructed them to prepare a medicinal diet suitable for His Highness the Crown Prince.
But who would have thought that I would be knocked unconscious by the prince halfway there? He only released me when he was about to leave, and even forced this letter on me, telling me to be sure to deliver it to you.
As Xiao Dezi kept explaining, he cursed himself inwardly for being so unlucky.
He never seems to encounter good things in his daily life, but he always seems to run into bad luck, as if fate is deliberately making things difficult for him.
He secretly resolved that he must be more careful when walking from now on.
After hearing Xiao Dezi's words, Sheng Chuyi gripped the letter tightly in his hand, as if he wanted to crush it. His facial muscles were tense, and his teeth were clenched so hard they were grinding.
He murmured to himself, "Saint Chuli, you've really made something of yourself. You've only just returned and you've already given me such a surprise that caught me completely off guard."
He slowly exhaled a breath of stale air, and with trembling hands, he slowly opened the envelope.
When the letter was fully unfolded before my eyes, the words inside came into view.
Saint Cherina's tone in the letter remained as nonchalant and indifferent as ever, as if the matter he was describing had nothing to do with him.
As he read the contents of the letter, his emotions grew increasingly complex, a mixture of anger at Saint Chuli's actions and a deep, unspoken worry.
Sheng Chuyi took a deep breath, a lump forming in his throat. He suddenly realized that he was standing outside the door and couldn't afford to lose his composure in this situation. So he quickly composed himself, his face turning icy cold as he said sternly, "Without my order, no one is allowed to let anyone in."
"Yes, Your Highness." Upon seeing this, Xiao Dezi quickly and respectfully replied.
Sheng Chuyi entered the Imperial Study.
I sat down at the table and carefully reread the letter in my hand.
"Brother, good morning. Oh no, by the time you read this letter it will probably be noon, so good afternoon. Don't be angry yet. It's not worth getting angry over a little beggar like me. I'm just an adopted son. They say you raise an army for a thousand days to use it for one. The royal family has raised me for so many years, it's time for me to repay them."
Sheng Chuyi's eyes reddened again. What nonsense is this idiot spouting?
“Brother, I know you’ve always treated me like your own brother, and Mother treated me like her own son. What you have, I have too, and sometimes even what you don’t have, I have. If it weren’t for you two, I would have starved to death in the cold winter twenty years ago. I think I should be grateful to you. I was willful three years ago. Please help me apologize to him. If I can come back alive, I will apologize to him in person.”
"Brother, don't worry, I will definitely win this battle. I will take good care of Mother and Saint Chuhan. When I return, I will apologize to you. We will drink until we drop."
"Brother, I don't blame him..."
Seeing this, Sheng Chuyi felt even more distressed and finally couldn't hold back, covering his face and crying.
