Chapter 523 Saint Chuhan Ran Away

When Sheng Chuyi learned from several guards that Sheng Yuan had gone to Sheng Chuli's palace, he felt somewhat conflicted.

He walked to the entrance of the palace and pushed the door open.

Seeing Sheng Yuan sitting by Sheng Chuli's bedside, head down, seemingly lost in thought.

Sheng Chuyi stepped forward and bowed.

Then he whispered, "Father must not have been to this place in a long time, has he?"

Shengyuan nodded and sighed, "In the three years since Li'er left, I haven't dared to come even once, for fear of being reminded of the past, and for fear of not being able to resist giving in and asking him to come back. Although he is unconventional, he is very obedient and a good child. It was Father who was wrong."

"When I was traveling incognito, I saw him lying alone by the roadside. I thought of you when you were an infant. After bringing him back, I originally wanted to entrust him to a good family to raise. But you held their hand and said that you were finally going to have a little brother, so I decided to keep him. Now I don't know if my choice was right or wrong. Would he be happier if he had grown up in an ordinary family?"

“Li’er doesn’t like power, wealth, or status. He just wants enough to eat, enough clothes, and a bed to sleep in. I remember once he came to pay his respects from somewhere wearing old clothes. You scolded me and your mother for abusing him, hahaha.”

Saint Chuyi also remembered this incident. It was a winter morning when snow was falling heavily. Everyone was wearing their newly made winter clothes to pay their respects to their father and mother, but Saint Chuli was the only one wearing thin clothes. When he saw this, he got angry with his father and mother.

I later found out that this guy was showing off on purpose. He dug out an old piece of clothing from some unknown place to show off his resistance to the cold. Now, thinking about it, I really feel ashamed.

"It was my fault. I accused Father and Mother without asking clearly. Thank goodness for Father's magnanimity." Sheng Chuyi bowed again and apologized to Sheng Yuan respectfully.

Shengyuan waved his hand, gesturing for him to sit down. "You're being so polite, are you still angry with me? Why are you sitting here so far away?"

"From childhood to adulthood, your mother and I have always wanted to raise you as ordinary children, but you were born as the Crown Prince, and Han'er was born as a legitimate princess. Your births were extraordinary, and you were destined not to be ordinary children."

Your mother and I have never set any rules for you three children. You say whatever you want in front of us; all those formalities between ruler and subject, father and son, are just for show. Fortunately, you three children are sensible and understand your mother and me. But Li'er, we still owe you a great deal.”

“You have a soft nature and a soft heart, and Li’er is just the perfect complement to you. I was thinking of sending him to the frontier to train for a few years, and he would definitely become a good helper to you. But I haven’t asked him what he thinks. Sigh.” Sheng Yuan’s eyes reddened as he spoke.

Sheng Chuyi quickly comforted him, "Father, don't be sad. Chuli has always understood your and Mother's feelings."

Sheng Chuyi took the letter out of his sleeve and handed it to Sheng Yuan.

Sheng Yuan looked at Sheng Chuyi in confusion, "What is this?"

“Father, you’ll see when you open it. This is a letter Chu Li left behind when he left. It says he doesn’t blame you, and he also said he would apologize to you in person when he returns. Perhaps he has come to his senses after these three years on the frontier,” Sheng Chuyi explained.

After reading the letter, Shengyuan's eyes were red and swollen.

"No, I need to write a letter. Someone, bring me pen, ink, paper, and inkstone. Quickly, I need to write a letter to Li'er." Sheng Yuan suddenly stood up and strode outside.

Sheng Chuyi watched Sheng Yuan's departing figure and smiled slowly.

"Chu Li, your father cares about you a lot, and we all care about you. You must come back safely," Sheng Yuan murmured.

He stepped outside the palace. The weather was very sunny, and the golden sunlight shone on him, making him feel warm and comfortable.

Saint Chuyi walked towards the Imperial Study.

"Your Highness, shall we send for the sedan chair?" Xiao Dezi walked over quickly.

Sheng Chuyi waved his hand, "No need, the weather is so nice today, it's good to take a walk."

As he walked, he kept thinking back, as if he had forgotten something.

It wasn't until he reached the entrance of Saint Chuhan's palace that he suddenly realized he hadn't seen Saint Chuhan all day.

"Did the princess come to see me this morning?" Saint Chuyi stopped and looked at the tightly closed palace gates, asking Xiao Dezi in a low voice.

Xiao Dezi thought it over and shook his head, "Your Highness, I did not see the princess this morning."

The implication was that they had not come to see Sheng Chuyi.

Sheng Chuyi was puzzled and gave a look to the side.

Xiao Dezi immediately understood and went up to knock on the door.

After knocking on the door for a long time, there was no response.

A bad feeling crept into Sheng Chuyi's heart. He stepped forward, pushed open the palace gate, and strode inside.

"Saint Chuhan? Saint Chuhan?"

"Where is he? Could he have been drugged too?" Saint Chu Yi muttered to himself as he walked into the inner hall, puzzled.

As they were talking, two palace maids came out from the inner room, both with tear stains on their faces.

"Oh dear, what should we do? It's too... too... Your Highness, this servant greets Your Highness!" The two palace maids looked up abruptly and were horrified to see Sheng Chuyi's face, which was covered in frost, staring at them coldly.

The intimidating aura made them tremble involuntarily, and then they immediately knelt down and respectfully performed a grand salute.

Saint Chuyi's face was grim, a flash of anger in his eyes, and he coldly asked, "Where is the princess? Where is she now?"

Upon hearing this, the two palace maids' faces drained of color instantly, turning deathly pale. Their bodies trembled uncontrollably, and they stammered as they spoke.

One of them replied tremblingly, "Your Highness, the princess..."

Unable to contain his rage any longer, Sheng Chuyi roared like thunder in the hall, "Speak!"

The two palace maids were so frightened that they collapsed to the ground.
