Chapter 4 Life

The Chen family has never been very prosperous. Old Mrs. Chen's health was damaged after giving birth to Chen Ping, and she was unable to conceive again. When she was almost forty years old, she adopted a little girl.

This little girl was truly pampered and raised by Old Mrs. Chen, but unfortunately, she was an ungrateful wretch who ran back to her biological parents' home after growing up. From then on, this little girl became a taboo subject for Old Mrs. Chen.

When Chen Ping got to his place, his ex-wife had given him a son, and later he married Wang Ying and had another son. The son from his first marriage was the same age as Xu Xinning's eldest brother and also joined the army. The son from Wang Ying's marriage was the same age as Xu Laosan.

Hearing the commotion next door, Old Mrs. Xu glanced at Old Mr. Xu, who was still eating breakfast, with a hint of schadenfreude.

"You old woman, what kind of look is that? You're so old, yet you're still thinking about all sorts of nonsense."

"Someone keeps peeking over our wall every day? They're shameless, they've been doing it for decades."

"I didn't lie down every day. I didn't lie down on rainy or snowy days, and I didn't lie down when I was giving birth," Old Xu joked.

"What? You remember it so clearly, and you still have your own thoughts about it? Humph~" Old Mrs. Xu stood up angrily and left.

Old Xu looked at the sulking old woman and laughed happily. This old woman is finally showing her temper in her old age.

"A beautiful girl like Lin Daiyu fell from the sky, like a cloud just emerging from a mountain peak..."

As soon as Old Mrs. Xu stepped out of the kitchen, she heard Old Mr. Xu singing opera, which infuriated her. Seeing the rooster strolling in the yard, she cursed indirectly, "You beast, you old lecher, is this yard your place to run wild?"

Immediately following was the startled flapping and squawking of the rooster.

Xu Xinning looked at Old Man Xu with amusement and said, not wanting to miss out on making things worse, "Grandpa, it seems like Grandma is scolding you."

"Little girl, you don't understand, this is life."

Is life just deliberately trying to make people angry?

What kind of hobby is this?

don't know.

Although she didn't understand, it didn't stop Xu Xinning from kicking someone when they were down.

"Grandma, this rooster is so disobedient, let's stew it today. I want to drink chicken soup."

“My little one wants chicken soup? Grandma has made some for you,” Grandma Xu replied.

Then came the sound of Grandma Xu catching chickens.

Xu Xinning looked at Old Man Xu with a gloating expression.

The rooster couldn't escape Old Lady Xu's clutches, crowing with a heart-wrenching cry.

Grandma Xu deftly went into the kitchen, scooped up some boiling water from the stove, and with a swift slash of her knife, sliced the rooster's neck clean, making Grandpa Xu shudder.

Xu Xinning's words ended the chicken's life. It died without ever understanding what had happened. It was just digesting its food after a meal; how could it lose its life? Humans are so capricious! I'll never be a chicken again in my next life.

"Eat quickly, I'm busy with a lot of things to do today," Yang Chunqin urged.

"Go on with your work, I'll fix it after the little girl finishes eating," said Grandma Xu as she plucked the chicken feathers.

“I’ve packed everything, Mom, you can go now,” Xu Xinning replied.

"I'm off then. Today the village is busy with wiring and installing electricity, as well as installing loudspeakers," Yang Chunqin said after washing her hands. "Grandma, the comrades from the power department will be having lunch at home, so I'll come back early to help."

"Get back to your work, how many people are coming?"

"Four or five young men, let's cook sorghum rice for lunch. It's not easy for those young men to climb up and down the telephone poles."

"Cheng, you're all capable people. Our village is really fortunate to have you as the brigade leader. Otherwise, when would we have been able to get electricity? Others may not know, but I've seen you put in a lot of effort for this."

"Don't worry, Chunqin deserves all the credit. I already told everyone in the village about it a few days ago," Old Xu interjected.

"Alright, I'm off, Nannan. If you're going to the commune hospital to get your medicine, go with your uncle in the village tractor. Also, pick up some fertilizer from the supply and marketing cooperative while you're there. I've already told them."

Xu Xinning's ability to drive a tractor was influenced by Yang Chunqin. Yang Chunqin likes to do everything herself, and she has become even more versatile since becoming the brigade leader.

Xu Xinning also wanted to help Yang Chunqin, not wanting her to do everything herself. Like mother, like daughter, and as she watched, Yang Chunqin learned to drive a tractor, which amazed the villagers. In this way, the mother and daughter naturally became the village's tractor drivers.

Oh! There's also a backup tractor driver, Xu Xinning's cousin, Xu Mingyang. He also returned from military service and earned a second-class merit in the army, which got him a job. Unfortunately, his mother gave the job to his younger brother. Since then, he's been short-tempered and no one can control him, but he only respects Xu Yaozu and Yang Chunqin.

Yang Chunqin couldn't stand that aunt who was biased and bullied Xu Mingyang relentlessly, so she took good care of her cousin after she became the brigade leader.

Xu Mingyang was taught to drive a tractor by Xu Xinning, and he's actually quite good at it now.

"Okay," Xu Xinning replied.

The medicines at the village clinic were supplied by the commune hospital. Xu Xinning, a barefoot doctor, would go there regularly to pick them up, but the quantity and variety of medicines were limited. The most common one was Analgin, as if Analgin could cure all diseases.

However, Xu Xinning has a spatial dimension, which was suddenly activated after her memories of her past life were restored.

In her previous life, Xu Xinning's mother had a Valley of Medicine Kings, where all kinds of medicinal herbs, both common and uncommon, were grown. There was also a complete set of medical equipment that her mother had brought from the future. Xu Xinning's medical skills were well developed there, and it was also the place where Xu Xinning spent the most time in her short life in her previous life.

Unexpectedly, it came with Xu Xinning, which is the happiest thing for Xu Xinning.

The space not only contained medicine and medical equipment, but also many carnivorous animals such as cattle, sheep, pigs and chickens, simply because her mother in her previous life was not only a divine doctor, but also a foodie.

Since gaining access to her spatial ability, Xu Xinning's life has become more meaningful. Unfortunately, she cannot recover her martial arts skills from her previous life, so she can only practice them slowly.

After tidying up the kitchen, Xu Xinning went to find her cousin. Old Man Xu also went out with her. He had to go to the ancestral hall to have a good chat with the villagers. He couldn't let people not know about the contributions his family had made to the village.

Xu Xinning's grandfather had two brothers, and her great-uncle had two cousins and two aunts.

Xu Xinning disliked that young mistress very much; she was domineering, unreasonable, loved to take advantage of others, and was a master of tantrums.

My great-uncle's family has never separated; they are still having breakfast.

"Grandpa, Grandma, Uncle, Aunt, breakfast is served."

"Hey! Ningning's here! Have you had breakfast yet? Come and have some with us," Grandpa greeted her with a smile.

"Ningning would even look at our breakfast? You must be joking! She's the eldest son's darling, and all the good food in the eldest son's house goes to her!" The young mistress was as sharp-tongued as ever.

Xu Xinning disdained to argue with such a person, and without even glancing at her, she said to Xu Mingyang, "Uncle, my mother asked us to drive the tractor to the supply and marketing cooperative to pick up the fertilizer."

"Okay!" Xu Mingyang said, then tilted his head back and drank the porridge in his bowl. "Let's go!"

"Grandpa, we're leaving now. You can continue eating."
