It turns out that these soldiers were all comrades-in-arms of Miao Yiya's husband. When he was selected to go undercover, his rank was squad leader. These comrades were originally his soldiers. However, after more than ten years of hard work, their ranks are now quite high. The highest rank is deputy regimental commander, and the lowest is company commander.
Because they were all comrades-in-arms who had fought side by side, and because Miao Yiya's husband had helped or saved them to some extent during missions, these comrades took it very seriously when they learned that Miao Yiya's husband had gone missing.
Miao Yiya's husband's surname is Li, and his given name is Xiangyang. His name when he was undercover was Li Yang.
The other undercover agent was Zhong Ye.
Zhong Ye arrived at Lihua Village more than two months earlier than Li Xiangyang, and his military rank at the time was company commander.
Zhong Ye's file states that he was an orphan, born in Northeast China, and that his parents were killed in a bombing when he was young.
He was sent undercover by his superiors because his wife was from a local ethnic minority, and they felt that his hidden identity would be very helpful in investigating the case.
Li Xiangyang and Zhong Ye were unaware of each other's identities; all they knew was that their superiors had sent two undercover agents.
Zhong Ye's arrival at Lihua Village was smooth sailing, or rather, like a fish in water. He no longer needed to hide much, making things much easier than when he was in the army. Because he was an undercover agent, he knew a lot of things, and thus he became a double undercover agent.
Not long after he arrived, he arranged for his wife's death. After all, his identity was sensitive, and he didn't want this woman to ruin his plans.
He was very well hidden, and he had a scholarly air about him, so Li Xiangyang didn't initially suspect that he was also an undercover agent.
But Zhong Ye was constantly investigating who the undercover agent was.
He is a very purposeful person. There were too many indigenous people and he didn't know where to start, so he turned his attention to the educated youth.
The other educated youth who came with Li Xiangyang soon either married locals or married locals themselves. Only Li Xiangyang seemed to be consistently implementing the principles of going to the countryside, working diligently and conscientiously.
Until he met Miao Yiya.
The main reason is that Miao Yiya's father is a very remarkable person in Li Xiangyang's eyes. He has never revealed his identity to him, but Miao Yiya's father has always protected him unconditionally.
This is also why he was able to remain undetected by the cunning Zhong Ye for so long.
Li Xiangyang was a top soldier, and his skills and physical abilities were undoubtedly superb. He had not been able to find out who the other undercover agent was, but over time he noticed Zhong Ye's unusual behavior.
Li Xiangyang is a patient person; he won't act rashly unless he's 100% certain.
He still maintains a close relationship with Zhong Ye.
It wasn't until just before his incident that it was confirmed that Zhong Ye was a double agent.
He was unsure if there were any hidden enemies like Zhong Ye within the unit, so he never revealed it. He only mentioned during the last contact that he had made a significant discovery and that the mission could be completed by the next contact.
Li Xiangyang was a cautious man. He put all the information he found about Zhong Ye into a tin box, the one that Miao Yiya knew was buried underground. He planned to hand over the information to his superiors himself when he completed the mission.
Unfortunately, man proposes, God disposes, and Li Xiangyang was eventually exposed.
His comrades only learned about Li Xiangyang's mission back then after they had risen to a certain rank.
After Li Xiangyang went missing, the higher-ups discovered that another undercover agent, Zhong Ye, was also missing. They also found out that Zhong Ye had hardly sent any useful information since becoming an undercover agent.
The higher-ups had their suspicions and investigated his social connections repeatedly, but they just couldn't find anything.
Because of this, the higher-ups assumed that both undercover agents had probably been killed.
Li Xiangyang's comrades only learned Zhong Ye's true identity after they were captured. Perhaps Zhong Ye thought they couldn't possibly leave Lihua Village alive, which is why he was so arrogant.
Mu Jingheng never dreamed things would turn out this way. If he and Xu Xinning hadn't rescued these people, he would never have imagined that Zhong Ye was actually a military spy.
This is so melodramatic!
What about past lives?
After Mu Jinghuai died here, the army sent people to investigate. Did they really not discover Zhong Ye's identity?
Or perhaps they discovered him and even mistook him for an undercover agent on our side, so they helped him conceal his identity.
Or perhaps Li Xiangyang's comrades-in-arms had all died, and Miao Yiya, for the safety of herself and her daughter, did not hand over the things Li Xiangyang left behind. Or perhaps she did not trust others, which is why she did not hand them over, and thus, by a twist of fate, she helped Zhong Ye.
Mu Jingheng scratched his head in frustration, feeling that his brother and these people had died unjustly in his previous life.
Mu Jingheng: "It's safe here. Just stay here and rest. Leave everything else to us. We'll take you away once we've finished our business."
"Alright! Be careful, that chieftain and the Gu doctor are no pushovers. Our initial estimate is that Zhong Ye and his group have quite a few people hiding here. They have sophisticated weapons, and if we're not mistaken, Zhong Ye is their leader."
Mu Jingheng: "Okay, I understand!"
"Comrade Mu, we suspect there is a basement under the chief's house. Not only the chief's house, but Zhong Ye's house should also have one. We also suspect that these basements are connected. We also suspect that they have a laboratory underground. When we were sent to the Gu doctor, someone said, 'Are we being sent to an underground laboratory?' The Gu doctor was there at the time. He insisted on taking us. We were drugged and had no strength to resist."
Mu Jingheng and Xu Xinning were both shocked. They had considered countless possibilities, but they never expected that they would set up a laboratory underground here.
