Chapter 41 Mu Jingheng Enters the Mountains

Mu Jingheng helped Xu Laosan sit up, then picked up the porridge on the table and fed it to him.

Xu Laosan finally got to experience what it's like to be waited on.

When someone who never gets sick suddenly falls ill, it makes people especially worried.

Yang Chunqin was often absent-minded this morning. She made several mistakes when assigning tasks and repeated herself several times even when she couldn't remember what she had said.

When the brigade cadres saw the dark circles under her eyes, they assumed she hadn't slept well because she was frightened by Xu Laosan the night before, so they started joking about it.

"The third brother's cries last night were truly pitiful."

"Of course, they should have been caught in a mixed doubles match, right?"

"Hahaha, it feels like something's missing if I don't see the third brother get beaten up every day. I wonder if his butt will even be able to sit down today."

"We'll find out when the kids get out of school, hahaha..."

Yang Chunqin sighed and said softly, "I didn't go to school today."

"What's wrong? Did you two go too far? Disciplining children is an art. You can't kill them, but you have to make them remember their mistakes. The place where the third son slept last night was really too dangerous. If he rolled over in his sleep and fell off, it wouldn't be a joke."

Yang Chunqin: "How could I hit him hard? This kid is like a monkey. He runs away before I even hit him. He also has a loud voice. Sometimes, even if I didn't hit him, I would doubt that I really hurt him when I saw his weird appearance."

"Haha, this kid's smart! Why isn't he going to school?"

Yang Chunqin: "I woke up early in the morning and found that he hadn't gotten up. When I went in, he was delirious with fever."

"Why do you have a fever?"

Yang Chunqin: "Nannan said he must have caught a cold last night and inhaled dew, so his body couldn't take it."

"Oh dear! A fever is no joke, Captain Yang, you'd better go back quickly."

"Yes! Go back quickly, we'll handle the rest."

Yang Chunqin was also very worried and couldn't put her mind at ease, so she thought it would be good to go home and check on things.

Mu Jingheng was a restless person. After feeding Xu Laosan his porridge, he went out, thinking that Xu Laosan needed some nourishment because he was sick. After finishing work, he went up the mountain early.

As the weather gradually warms up, the small animals on the mountain are multiplying.

The villagers dared not venture into the deep mountains, but Mu Jingheng, relying on his experience in the military since childhood, was quite daring. He wanted to go into the mountains to see if he could catch a pheasant to nourish Xu Laosan.

It has to be said that these two got along really well after spending more than a week together.

In the countryside, things are hard to keep secret. The moment Yang Chunqin stepped into her home, the news of Xu Laosan's illness had already spread throughout the entire brigade.

Xu Laosan once again dominated the headlines for the day.

However, he was completely unaware of it. After drinking the porridge and his fever subsided, he fell into a deep sleep again.

Xu Xinning stayed in Xu Laosan's room and read a book.

Yang Chunqin tiptoed into the room, then walked to Xu Laosan's bedside, reached out and touched his forehead, then touched her own forehead, and only breathed a long sigh of relief when she found that the fever had really gone down.

Yang Chunqin: "Is the third child really alright?"

Xu Xinning: "It's okay, but it will still recur. Just give me another acupuncture treatment."

Yang Chunqin: "Don't you need to take Analgin?"

Xu Xinning: "No need."

Mu Jingheng was avoiding people when he entered the mountain, but he saw a figure in the distance. At first, he thought that the person was also hunting wild game like him, so he changed direction and went to other places. But not long after, he saw someone coming up the mountain again, and it was a woman.

Mu Jingheng's gossipy nature kicked in, and his mind conjured up one scandalous affair after another. He wondered how bold the men and women in the village were to arrange a date in the deep mountains. Weren't they afraid of encountering large animals?

Mu Jingheng chuckled to himself as he walked, finding Xujia Village increasingly interesting.

But when he changed direction and saw someone again, he started cursing under his breath.

Damn it, I finally had some free time to go up the mountain to hunt some pheasants, why are so many people ruining my good time?

Unbeknownst to Mu Jingheng, he was also seen when he turned around and changed direction.

The man stared at Mu Jingheng's retreating figure, his eyes filled with an unfathomable darkness.

Clearly, this person knew Mu Jingheng.

Although their initial attempt was unsuccessful, they were still lucky. Mu Jingheng found a pheasant that had just laid an egg, but it was caught halfway through laying the egg. The scare caused the egg to shrink back.

Mu Jingheng tied the pheasant's wings with vines, then pried open the spot where the pheasant had just laid its eggs. Sure enough, there were five or six wild eggs lying there quietly.

At this moment, the joy had made Mu Jingheng forget the unpleasantness he had felt when he first arrived at the mountain.

Having achieved my goal and feeling pleased with myself, I was about to head down the mountain when I heard the cry of a wild boar coming from afar.

Mu Jingheng had never seen a wild boar before. He had heard that they were black, had very sharp tusks, and were much bigger than domestic pigs. They had even killed someone while foraging for food in the mountains before.

Although Mu Jingheng was daring, he didn't want to take any risks. He grabbed a pheasant from the ground, stuffed the eggs into his pocket, and ran down the mountain. He didn't want to become prey for wild boars.

Mu Jingheng ran all the way to the foot of the mountain before stopping. He picked a few large leaves to wrap the pheasant in, then quickly returned to the Xu family home. His heart was still pounding wildly!

Xu Laosan had already woken up, looking listless. He was sitting under the eaves helping Xu Xinning pick vegetables.

Mu Jingheng: "Third brother, you're up? How are you feeling, feeling better?"

Xu Laosan looked up at the somewhat disheveled Mu Jingheng and asked, "Brother, where did you go? Why are you covered in straw in your clothes and hair?"

Mu Jingheng proudly held up the pheasant in his hand, "Look, I just caught this for you in the mountains to help you recover. Eat more later."

Xu Laosan actually had no appetite at the moment, but he was still quite grateful to Mu Jingheng.

Xu Laosan: "Thanks, brother. You've gone deep into the mountains?"

Afraid that Old Madam Xu would hear, Mu Jingheng put his finger to his lips and made a shushing gesture to Xu Laosan.

Grandma Xu was truly good to Mu Jingheng. Afraid that he didn't know how dangerous the deep mountains were, she had emphasized to him several times that he was not allowed to go in. She had actually seen people lose their lives because of going into the deep mountains.

Xu Laosan exposed him, saying, "Grandma hasn't come back yet."

Mu Jingheng smiled guiltily at Xu Laosan and went into the kitchen.

The elders in the family had all gone to work, and Xu Xinning was preparing the meal when she saw Mu Jingheng enter the room and glance at him. This was the first time she had seen Mu Jingheng so unladylike.

In Xu Xinning's mind, Mu Jingheng was arrogant. He always dressed himself up neatly and worked very hard, but he never cared about work points. Whenever he had time, he would hang out with Xu Laosan and his group of half-grown boys. Xu Xinning always felt that this person had not grown up yet.
