Extra Chapter 4 of Xu Lao San

My sister and Xun Shichou entered the room, followed by a man in a suit. I didn't recognize him, but he must be someone my sister knew.

The man was very strange; he kept staring at me as soon as he came in.

Seeing my hesitation, Xun Shichou introduced me, "This is my mentor, currently the best psychologist in the country."

"Do I have a psychological problem?" I asked.

My sister came up to me, took my hand, looked into my eyes and said, "It's not a big problem. You just encountered some trauma and don't want to remember certain things."

"Is there someone you've forgotten?" Actually, I'm quite certain now.

The older sister nodded.

"Is that person named Chen Jianguo?" I continued to probe.

The aunt exclaimed in surprise, "Third brother, you remember Jianguo?"

I shook my head. "I guessed it, because everyone avoids talking about Chen Jianguo in front of me. Even if they accidentally mention it, they'll secretly look at me. I used to just find it strange, but now that you've brought it up, I'm sure of it."

I looked at my sister and asked, "Sis, who is Chen Jianguo? How could I have forgotten him?"

Sister: "Chen Jianguo is Uncle Chen's son, my younger brother, and your best playmate. You grew up together since you were little."

"Where is he?" I felt inexplicably panicked.

"He died while fighting enemy agents on the train to save everyone."

It's clear that my sister is very sad.

Suddenly, an image flashed in my mind of a fight on a train. The person was pushing another man forcefully, and then they both fell out of the window, and suddenly flames erupted.

My head is hurting more and more, and the pain is so bad that I can't help but grab my hair.

The older sister said anxiously, "Quickly, help me grab his hand."

Then I felt my sister giving me acupuncture.

The pain gradually subsided.

The man in the suit said to the sister, "Teacher Xu, why don't you give him hypnotherapy? I think hypnotherapy is the most effective treatment for his condition."

My sister didn't say anything, but I knew she was weighing what was best for me.

The older sister looked at Xun Shichou and asked, "What do you think?"

Xun Shichou: "Sister, I still hope he can remember naturally. He's just running away now. He'll have to get over this eventually."

Perhaps her sister's thoughts coincided with Xun Shichou's, for she nodded firmly.

My sister looked at me again and asked softly, "Does your head still hurt?"

"It doesn't hurt as much anymore."

Sister: "It won't hurt for long, just bear with it a little longer."

My sister turned the silver needle stuck in my head and then removed it after a while.

I don't know if it's just psychological, but my head doesn't seem to hurt anymore.

The older sister looked at the psychology teacher and said, "Teacher Zheng, thank you for coming to see my brother. What do you think about entrusting this matter to Xun Shichou?"

The teacher looked at me, then at Xun Shichou, and said, "With Teacher Xu here, there's naturally no problem. If your brother recovers, how about having Xun Shichou write a report?"

Sister: "That's for sure, after all, it was his first time doing psychological counseling."

"Alright, I won't bother you any longer. I still need to ask Professor Xu many academic questions later!"

Sister: "Teacher Zheng, you're too kind. I'm good at traditional Chinese medicine, and I only occasionally dabble in psychology. How can I compare to Teacher Zheng?"

You're too modest!

Sister: "Xiao Chou, help me see your mentor off!"

Xun Shichou escorted the man out of the ward.

Over the next few days, Xun Shichou talked about Chen Jianguo as if he were telling me a story.

My older sister would sometimes chime in.

From their words, I felt like I truly understood the joy I felt when I was with Chen Jianguo.

At first, my head hurt, but gradually the pain subsided, and the images of being with Chen Jianguo became clearer and clearer in my mind. Finally, I saw Chen Jianguo's face.

He was smiling at me.

I also remember the scene of him pulling the enemy agent off the train. The last thing Chen Jianguo said to me at that time was, "Third brother, live on with me!"

I also remember the scene when the explosives detonated; I saw that Chen Jianguo's body seemed to have been blown apart.

Blood, blood everywhere!

My sister asked me for leave and accompanied me back to Xujia Village.

Perhaps Comrade Yang Chunqin has really gotten old. When she saw me, she didn't shout and yell like she used to. Instead, she carefully hugged me.

She cried; it was the first time I had ever seen Comrade Yang Chunqin cry so sadly.

For the first time, I realized how warm and reassuring my mother's embrace was.

My sister and I went to Chen Jianguo's grave, accompanied by Yang Chunqin.

Chen Jianguo's grave is next to Wang Ying's grave. Perhaps Uncle Chen wanted the mother and son to be reunited.

With Wang Ying by his side, Chen Jianguo no longer felt lonely.

Aunt Chen didn't seem to know that Chen Jianguo was gone. She thought he was studying in Beijing and rushed over to see me as soon as she found out I was back.

My great-uncle probably knew. He patted my shoulder and whispered to me, "Study hard, and contribute to the country after you graduate. Don't keep worrying about the founding of the country. For him, being able to save so many people is the best ending. This child suffered too much while he was alive."

I didn't understand what he meant at the time, until my sister gave me Chen Jianguo's diary, and then I realized why my great-uncle said that Chen Jianguo was living a painful life.

I don't know when my great-aunt found out the truth. It was during my first year of studying abroad that I received a call from her in the middle of the night. That day, she unusually chatted with me for a long time, not caring about wasting money.

When I returned to China after completing my doctorate, my great-uncle and great-aunt actually came to Kyoto to visit me. Fortunately, my sister took care of their health, so they have always been in good health; otherwise, I would have felt really guilty.

I drove them around Kyoto, and my great-uncle told me a lot about his time leading troops in battle when he was young. Back then, he was a powerful and mighty ruler. He had been to Kyoto quite often before.

What I find most unbelievable is that he actually owns a courtyard house in Kyoto.

When he mentioned it, I thought it definitely no longer belonged to him, but I didn't expect that he had been asking someone to take care of it.

I think my great-uncle is a really amazing person. He never fails to succeed at anything he sets his mind to.

The day before they were to leave, my great-uncle called me to his courtyard house. To my surprise, there was a secret room in the courtyard house, and my great-uncle took me there.

There were many boxes inside, and my great-uncle asked me to open them and take a look.

I was truly shocked when I opened it. Although I have earned a lot of money abroad, it is nothing compared to my great-uncle's secret treasure.

The box was filled with neatly arranged gold bars; it was dazzling.

It was only then that I learned that my great-uncle had never imagined that this wealth would ever see the light of day again. He thought he would live out his life in Xujia Village in a plain and uneventful way, but he felt particularly at peace with himself.

I never imagined that the country would develop so quickly, and that I would be able to witness a day when the whole nation was living in peace and prosperity while I was still alive.
