No. 2 Taoli Street.
Wrapped in a thick blanket, Song Xingwan stood in front of the huge French windows, gazing intently at the fireworks filling the sky.
"You like fireworks?"
Huo Yunting, who had been busy in the kitchen for most of the day, served the last dish. Seeing Song Xingwan staring silently at the fireworks display, he thought to himself that if she liked fireworks, he would light up the whole city with sparks for her another day.
Song Xingwan didn't reply, but slowly turned around and asked indifferently:
When are you planning to leave?
“I have completely severed ties with the Huo family and am currently homeless. If it’s convenient for you, could you take me in for a few days?” Huo Yunting adjusted his gold-rimmed glasses and asked cautiously.
Song Xingwan knew that Huo Yunting had made the difficult decision to sever ties with the Huo family because of her.
If it were before, she would have been deeply moved.
But after going through many hardships, Song Xingwan's heart gradually hardened.
Now, she not only has to shoulder the burden of life, but also has to find ways to protect the child in her womb.
Too many worries caused her to completely overlook the love hidden deep in her heart.
For her, simply surviving was already an exhausting task.
Under such circumstances, she has no right to pursue so-called love, nor is she entitled to presume to forgive.
Pulling the thick blanket tighter around herself, Song Xingwan lowered her eyes and replied softly:
"inconvenient."
"Just a few days, is that alright?"
Song Xingwan shook her head, her attitude resolute, and said, word by word:
"You're coming and going from my place all the time, seriously damaging my reputation. How am I supposed to get married if you keep doing this?"
Huo Yunting asked eagerly, "Will you marry me?"
"No good." Song Xingwan shook her head again.
Huo Yunting had anticipated Song Xingwan's response, and he was able to adapt and subtly change the subject:
"If you're worried that my appearance will affect your reputation, you can announce to the public that I'm your brother."
"Why make things so complicated? You could have just left."
“Now that you are pregnant, it is very inconvenient for you to do so, and I am really worried about you.”
“Aunt Tian will take care of my daily life. She cooks very well, so you can rest assured.”
Huo Yunting was unwilling to be outdone by Aunt Tian, and repeatedly said:
“What Aunt Tian can do, I can do too. If you don’t believe me, you can sit down and try my fish head soup.”
Song Xingwan experienced severe morning sickness during her pregnancy; even the slightest smell of fish would send her stomach churning violently.
She had originally planned to go straight back to her room, but when she unexpectedly caught a glimpse of Huo Yunting's hand, which was scalded red, she couldn't bear to do it.
After a moment of hesitation, she sat down at the dining table and forced herself to eat a few bites, even though she didn't have much of an appetite.
Huo Yunting looked with delight at Song Xingwan, who was leisurely eating her meal at the dining table, and couldn't help but bring up the old matter again, saying in a deep voice:
"Wanwan, keep the baby. After you give birth, I will take care of it and will never let the child affect your career. I will do my best to take good care of you and the child and will never let you suffer any more grievances."
"This time, I want to live for myself. Huo Yunting, please stop interfering in my life in the name of love, okay?"
Song Xingwan put down her chopsticks, a hint of anger hidden in her clear eyes.
"Feel sorry."
Huo Yunting apologized repeatedly and explained in a soft voice, "I never intended to interfere in your life. I just hope that I can have a place in your life."
"I'm sleepy."
Song Xingwan clearly didn't want to continue the topic, so she made up an excuse and hurriedly got up and went back to her room.
After returning to her room, she tossed and turned in bed for most of the day, unable to fall asleep, her mind filled with the few words Huo Yunting had spoken.
Just as she was starting to feel sleepy, the sudden sound of running water in the bathroom woke Song Xingwan, who was a very light sleeper.
She got out of bed somewhat irritably, slipped on the non-slip slippers Huo Yunting had prepared for her, and headed straight for the bathroom.
To her surprise, Huo Yunting, who had never lifted a finger in the kitchen, was squatting in the cramped shower room, washing her underwear.
Staring blankly at his hunched back like a shrimp, her eyes instantly reddened.
Huo Yunting's recent changes have been quite astonishing.
He had been quite good to her before, but he was too domineering and rarely accommodated her. His possessiveness and controlling nature were outrageous.
All that remains of him now is endless tenderness and consideration.
Song Xingwan pondered to herself, if her parents were still alive, if the Huo family hadn't tried to wipe out the Song family, and if Huo Yunting hadn't forced her, she would still love him wholeheartedly, her heart and eyes filled with him, just like before.
Unfortunately, there are no "what ifs".
She sniffed softly, as if she had made up her mind. She slowly turned around and refused to look back at him again.
...
Linjiang, the Zhan family's old residence.
Xuan Wei, who was having dinner with Zhan Hanjue, couldn't hide her envy when she saw the fireworks filling the sky.
She tilted her head and looked out the window at the dazzling fireworks, becoming completely mesmerized.
Zhan Hanjue looked at Xuan Wei, whose face was full of admiration, and casually asked:
"What are you thinking about?"
Xuanwei, mimicking Xi Shi cradling her heart, blushed and whispered:
"I...I'm thinking, if one day someone can light up the whole city with fireworks for me, I will definitely marry him without hesitation."
