"Grandma, how have you been lately?"
When Ling Mo heard the heavy nasal tone in Liu Guifen's voice, his heart clenched tightly again.
The person she worries about most is her grandmother, who gave her endless warmth.
The reason I rarely call my grandmother is mainly because every time I receive a call from her, she cries uncontrollably.
On one occasion, she cried so hard she almost fainted.
Because of this, her uncle, Shi Xing, scolded her severely, saying she was a jinx.
In fact, Shi Xing doesn't necessarily care much about his own mother.
The reason he was so furious and made Ling Mo call back was simply because he was worried that Liu Guifen's health couldn't withstand such emotional ups and downs.
If Liu Guifen were to suddenly die, she would be unable to receive her monthly pension of over 5,000 yuan.
It's important to understand that an extra income of over 5,000 yuan a month is no small sum for a rural family.
However, after learning that Ling Mo had found her biological father, Shi Xing's attitude towards her changed completely.
Just like now, he completely disregarded Liu Guifen's tears, snatched the phone, and, with a somewhat ingratiating tone, showered Ling Mo with praise:
"Mo, you've really made something of yourself! Your uncle is so proud of you. Just a while ago, I was talking to your aunt about you. It's amazing how quickly you've turned eighteen. In the countryside, you'd be married by now. But look at you, you've already snagged a wealthy young master from the capital! You're truly remarkable..."
"Uncle, could you give the phone to Grandma? I haven't seen her in a long time and I want to talk to her more." Ling Mo impatiently interrupted Shi Xing's endless chatter.
Shi Xing smacked his lips in dissatisfaction. He hadn't even gotten to the point yet when Ling Mo had already decided to take action, so he was naturally not very happy.
After a moment's hesitation, he still gripped his phone tightly, and shamelessly grinned as he said:
"MoMo, your uncle wants to talk to you about something. You see, your cousin is about to go to high school. Her grades have never been good. Why don't you arrange for her to get into a prestigious academy in Linjiang City? There are lots of rich young men there, and who knows, someone might take a liking to your cousin."
“Uncle, Shi Huan is still young, and her studies should be her priority for now. The elite academy is a dangerous place, and it may not be suitable for a naive girl like her.”
Ling Mo and Shi Huan barely interacted. During the years he lived in the countryside, he only saw her during winter and summer vacations.
Normally, Shi Huan studies at the art school in the county town.
Therefore, she was extremely unfamiliar with Shi Huan.
She didn't have a good impression of her, but she wouldn't hold a grudge against Shi Huan because of her aunt Zhu Yanyan.
Upon hearing Ling Mo's words, Shi Xing instantly became furious.
In his view, Ling Mo was clearly worried that his talented daughter would overshadow her, which was why he claimed that the aristocratic academy was not suitable for Shi Huan.
Zhu Yanyan, who was standing right next to Shi Xing, could no longer contain herself. She snatched the phone from Shi Xing's hand and went straight to the point with Ling Mo:
"MoMo, we country folk really don't understand what you're saying. But if it's too difficult to get into a prestigious academy, then forget it. How about we ask that gentleman who recently proposed to you for advice? Or perhaps he has any unmarried men in his family?"
In fact, Zhu Yanyan's goal was not as simple as finding Shi Huan a rich husband.
She hoped that Shi Huan could prove her worth and snatch Qin Beiming, such a coveted prize, from Ling Mo's hands.
"Aunt, Shi Huan is not even fifteen years old yet. Isn't it too early for you to be thinking about these things?"
Ling Mo was speechless. He originally thought of hanging up the phone directly, but he was worried that Zhu Yanyan would take her anger out on her grandmother. So he had no choice but to patiently chat with them in a casual manner.
"Mom, my cousin is right. Why are you joining in the commotion? My cousin said she wants to talk to Grandma. Why don't you hurry up and hand the phone to her?"
Shi Yi subtly winked at Zhu Yanyan. He was still hoping to get in touch with Zhan Hanjue and Qin Beiming through Ling Mo, so he was naturally unwilling to offend Ling Mo at this critical juncture.
Zhu Yanyan didn't get any benefit from it, and she was extremely upset.
Unfortunately, Shi Yi had already snatched the phone from her hand, so she had no choice but to patiently give up for the time being.
Liu Guifen breathed a sigh of relief when she saw her phone finally back in her hand.
Although she was old, she was still quite clear-headed, and what she least wanted was to cause trouble for Ling Mo.
Of course, she knew all too well what kind of people Shi Xing and Zhu Yanyan were like.
If there were no profit to be made, why would they fawn over Ling Mo like lapdogs?
Calling them lapdogs is being kind.
In her eyes, they were a bunch of ingrates.
Shi Xing is, Zhu Yanyan is, and Shi Yi is the same.
As for Shi Huan, he is still young and his shrewdness is not yet apparent; he is generally a decent person.
Liu Guifen had long seen through this family, so after Shi Ying passed away, her only concern was Ling Mo.
Lowering her eyes, Liu Guifen wiped away the tears that had fallen onto her phone screen and spoke again:
"My child, how have you been lately?"
"fine."
"Are you hungry? I saw you on TV, and you look so much thinner." Liu Guifen's voice choked up again as she recalled the years she and Ling Mo had spent together, sometimes going hungry and sometimes not.
