Chapter 54 Seventh Prince

"It's born! It's born..."

Another midwife took over the position of the previous midwife. Just then, Consort Ulanara exerted her strength, and the prince who was stuck was released. Before Consort Ulanara could say anything, she fainted.

The midwife cleaned up the newborn baby boy and patted him several times before he finally let out a faint cry, which didn't sound healthy at all.

"Why is the prince's face bluish-purple?" Jumei asked in surprise, pointing to the young prince's face.

"The little prince felt a bit suffocated inside the body, which is why he's like this. In a moment, the imperial physicians will examine him, and then we'll take him out to report the good news to the Emperor."

The midwife who took over was also a good one, so she dutifully treated Consort Ulanara's wounds and did not compete with them to go out and receive the reward.

"Yes, thank you, Grandma Tang."

Jumei had the wet nurse take the prince, and then went to the side room where the imperial physicians were.

"What's wrong with the young prince?" Jumei asked worriedly, looking at the solemn-faced Imperial Physician Lu.

"Let's go out first!" After taking the pulses of several imperial physicians, Physician Lu and the others whispered a few words. Physician Lu then went out with Jumei and the others to report the good news to Emperor Kangxi.

"They're out."

Wanyi was the first to notice Jumei and the others coming out. What she had been thinking suddenly came out, but their attention was all on the newborn.

"So, is it a princess or a prince?" Consort Tong asked the question that almost everyone was concerned about first.

"Congratulations, Your Majesty! Consort Ulanara has safely given birth to a prince."

The wet nurse smiled and said that since the imperial physician had not mentioned the prince's physical condition, the wet nurse was also cunning and did not say anything about whether the mother and child were both safe.

"Good, good, everyone will be rewarded." Emperor Kangxi was overjoyed.

"I noticed that Prince Xiao's face is bruised and purple. Is there something wrong?" Consort Zhao asked suspiciously.

"Is the prince healthy?" Emperor Kangxi noticed this and quickly asked Physician Lu, who was standing nearby.

"Your Majesty, the little prince was a little suffocated in the womb, which is why he is like this. In addition, Consort Ulanara was weak and had a miscarriage earlier, so the little prince is weaker than other newborns. If he is carefully cared for, he will be fine by the time he is one year old."

There was one more thing that Physician Lu didn't mention: the young prince couldn't withstand even the slightest cold or flu this year, otherwise he would become even weaker, and it might even affect his lifespan.

"Is there anything I should be careful about?" Kangxi looked at the little child and felt a sense of pride, and he also showed more concern for the young prince.

"Just remember not to catch a cold."

"It's windy outside, let's take him inside quickly! We can bring him to the prince's quarters after the seventh prince's one-month celebration!"

Upon hearing this, Emperor Kangxi realized that the young prince was currently outside. Normally, newborn children would be taken to the princes' quarters, but seeing the frail seventh prince, Kangxi granted this special favor.

"Congratulations, Your Majesty! Congratulations on the birth of your son!" After the midwife took the Seventh Prince away, Consort Zhao led the way in congratulating Emperor Kangxi.

"Get up!" Emperor Kangxi happily helped Consort Zhao and Consort Tong to their feet.

"I think the Seventh Prince's features resemble the Emperor's; he'll definitely be a great man in the future," Consort Zhao said, praising him. The other concubines all chimed in with agreement.

After the meeting, Wanyi breathed a sigh of relief. Fortunately, nothing serious had happened. She was really not used to the inner palace. She didn't know if returning here was a mistake, but she had no choice. She had to think of a way to kill Wuya first. She was lucky before, and Kangxi only confined her to her quarters. She wanted to see how many times she could escape.

What Wanyi didn't know was that Lady Wuya was the darling of this land, always managing to escape danger. Otherwise, given Kangxi's personality, Lady Wuya would have been executed long ago, like last time.

"My lady, it would be so nice if you had a prince, or even a princess," Hongxiu said suddenly when she saw Wanyi glance at her.

“They’ll all come eventually. Now’s not the time. Let’s focus on building our network first!” Wanyi fell silent and sat to the side, deep in thought.

"Your Highness is daydreaming again." Hongxiu didn't understand why Wanyi liked to daydream so much.

In the evening, after having dinner, Wanyi went for a walk in the back garden of Yongshou Palace to aid digestion.

“Hongxiu, do our people have access to Consort Wuya’s clothing, such as quilts and sachets?” Wanyi suddenly asked.

"It should work! What does Your Highness want to do?" Hongxiu asked, puzzled.

"I have something for you to do," Wanyi whispered to Hongxiu.

"Yes, I understand."

"If you don't have enough money, just take it from the small drawer under the dressing table. There's no need to be stingy for me. If you can solve it with silver, then use silver. It doesn't matter if you have more," Wanyi said generously.

"Yes, this servant will definitely do a perfect job," Hongxiu said confidently, patting her chest.

"I feel increasingly tired lately, and my face is always a little itchy." Consort Wuya didn't know what was wrong with her these past few days. She felt very tired and thought it was because she was copying scriptures. So she rested all day yesterday, but she was even more tired than before.

"Your Highness, you've gotten up! I've brought you some water...!"

Chu Yao slammed the copper basin down, making a crisp sound that startled Xiao Shanzi and Qi Meng, who were guarding outside, and they quickly ran inside.

What happened?

Consort Wuya was equally surprised to see the two people who entered. She asked them in confusion, but a bad feeling crept into her heart.

"My lady, your face, your face." Chu Yao stammered, having regained her senses.

"What's wrong with my face?"

Consort Wuya quickly touched her face and found it to be uneven, rough, and sticky. She immediately ran to the bronze mirror and saw a ghostly appearance.

"Oh, my face!"

Consort Wuya held her face in her hands, staring in disbelief at the pustules covering her face. Some of them had been scratched open while she was sleeping, and were still oozing pus. In anger, she swept everything on the dressing table onto the floor.

"What are you still standing here for? Hurry up and go fetch the imperial physician."

Consort Wuya was furious when she saw the three lowly maids and eunuchs still standing there in a daze.

"Yes, this servant will go right away."

Upon hearing this, Qimeng quickly slipped out, leaving Chuyao and Xiaoshanzi standing there trembling, not knowing what to do.

"Aren't you coming to serve me? Do I have to go and invite you myself?"

"Yes, this servant will go and fetch water for you to wash up."

After Chu Yao finished speaking, she quickly left, and Xiao Shanzi could only go over and pick up everything on the ground.

Consort Wuya had a gloomy face, lost in thought. Her already unattractive face, combined with her vicious expression, made her look terrifyingly ferocious.

"Did you summon the imperial physician? Did he find out what happened?" Consort Tong asked Tong Mama curiously.

"The imperial physician who treated her said that she has developed boils on her face that won't heal," said Granny Tong regretfully.

"What's there to regret? It's all for nothing. I put her on the dragon bed. Useless thing. Tell the imperial physicians not to be too careful. Just give her a quick treatment; she won't die."
