Chapter 53 Lin Yueyue's Crisis

Chapter 53 Lin Yueyue's Crisis

"See you tomorrow."

Lin Yueyue smiled and waved goodbye to her classmates.

As he turned away, the smile on his face vanished completely.

The black Mercedes is still parked in the same spot.

Driver Lao Chen stood by the car door, bowed slightly, and opened the door for her.

The car's air conditioning was set very low. Lin Yueyue put her schoolbag at her feet, leaned her head against the car window, and silently put on her headphones.

As the car slid off the school road, Old Chen glanced at her in the rearview mirror and cleared his throat: "Miss, Mr. Lin has been quite busy lately. The acquisition in Hong Kong has stalled, so he probably won't be able to come see you for a while."

His voice filled the carriage, like a needle thrown into a deep well, leaving no echo.

Lin Yueyue didn't even lift her eyelids, her fingertips swiping across her phone, turning the volume up two notches. Her gaze was fixed on the window, her earphone cord dangling from her collarbone, rising and falling slightly with her breath.

Old Chen sighed inwardly and wisely shut his mouth.

The car arrived home in about ten minutes.

The fingerprint lock beeped and opened the door.

Lin Yueyue casually kicked off her shoes, the heels sliding a few centimeters across the floor before finally hitting the shoe cabinet with a crisp clanging sound. She walked straight into the living room.

The living room was large, spacious enough to resemble a small exhibition hall. The white marble floor reflected a cool light under the lamps, and several abstract oil paintings hung on the walls.

She took off her school uniform jacket and threw her schoolbag onto the sofa.

Then I took a bottle of juice from the refrigerator and poured myself half a glass.

She habitually added half a spoonful of sugar to her cup, then sat in front of the bay window in her bedroom, looking at the neon lights of the city outside, and sipped her drink.

The phone on the bed suddenly vibrated.

The words "bad woman" flashing on the screen were blindingly bright.

Lin Yueyue didn't even bother to look at it; she swiped her thumb and hung up immediately.

Ten seconds later, the phone stubbornly rang again, so she simply pressed and held the power button to turn it off, and the screen went black instantly.

She knew what this woman wanted to say; she simply wanted her to attend a banquet, smile, toast, take photos, and go through the motions.

But she disliked those insincere, flattering smiles, disliked comparing herself to those socialites and heiresses, and hated hearing all sorts of compliments.

So when her father forced her to attend a prestigious private school, she ran away.

She just wanted to quietly do what she loved.

"Knock knock knock!"

Just then, there was a knock on the living room door.

Lin Yueyue frowned slightly.

Who would come to her house so late?

She put down her juice and walked slowly to the entrance.

Just about to open the door.

Suddenly, the words Yu Qing had said to her earlier that day came to mind.

She paused slightly as she gripped the doorknob, then looked through the peephole and saw a man wearing a baseball cap and a mask standing outside.

Lin Yueyue became wary and asked through the door, "May I ask who you are?"

"Hello, I'm from the property management of this community. We're planning to renovate the green space and sprinkler system, and we need you to sign here." A polite young man's voice came from outside the door, slightly hoarse.

"Didn't you all get off work at this time? Why are you here to sign documents at night?" Lin Yueyue asked in confusion.

"I came here a few times during the day, but no one answered after knocking for a long time, so I thought I'd try again tonight. I had no choice, though, because my superiors were urging me to come quickly. Otherwise, I wouldn't have bothered you like this," the man outside the door explained.

After hearing his answer, Lin Yueyue's doubts were mostly dispelled, because she usually lived alone and spent the day at school, only returning home at night.

"Please wait a moment."

Just to be on the safe side, Lin Yueyue went to the bathroom, took out her phone, and dialed the property management office to confirm: "Hello, I am a resident of apartment 805 in building 3. Do I need to sign off on the greening sprinkler system today?"

"Wasn't the renovation plan completed last month? There was no need for any signatures. Where did you hear that?"

The property management's response alarmed her.

He swallowed hard, his heart pounding.

His gaze involuntarily drifted towards the gate.

If the person outside isn't from the property management, then who is he?

"Hello, could you please come out and sign this?"

The knocking continued at the door, neither hurried nor slow.

Lin Yueyue gripped her phone tightly and quickly dialed the police number on the keyboard.

...

Half an hour later.

The knocking on the door sounded again.

Lin Yueyue looked through the peephole and saw the police uniform on the other person, finally finding a sense of security.

Two police officers from the local police station arrived. After briefly understanding the situation, they learned that it was related to a previous major case and immediately notified the criminal investigation team by phone.

I waited for about twenty more minutes.

With a "ding-dong" sound, Xu Zhi stepped out of the elevator.

"What's going on?"

"The little girl said someone wanted to kill her?" the two police officers said quickly.

"Is it going to be another video game incident?" Xu Zhi frowned. Last time, he received a call in the middle of the night saying that someone had killed five people, but the police found out it was a hoax.

"This time it really wasn't about playing games." The two police officers were somewhat embarrassed.

Xu Zhi turned his gaze to Lin Yueyue.

I was slightly taken aback when I saw her.

Yoho!

An old acquaintance.

Since they're old acquaintances, it'll be easier to talk to them.

Lin Yueyue described the whole incident in detail again, and Xu Zhi got a general understanding of the situation.

"Could it be the same murderer from last time?" Lin Yueyue asked nervously.

"Don't overthink it. Try to stay home as much as possible during this period, especially in public places. Don't wander around alone, understand?" Xu Zhi said seriously.

Lin Yueyue nodded.

She knew that if Yu Qing hadn't reminded her today, she might have actually opened the door, and she didn't dare to think about what would have happened afterward.

"Are you home alone? Where are your parents?" Xu Zhi asked.

“My mother passed away early, and my father is usually busy with company business and rarely comes home,” Lin Yueyue said softly.

"Oh, I see. Then give me your family's phone number. I need to talk to them about what happened today."

"Okay, sure."

Lin Yueyue wrote down the number and handed it to him.

Xu Zhi picked up his phone and dialed a number. After hearing the middle-aged man's voice on the other end, he briefly explained the situation, then hung up and checked the time: "It's getting late. You should go to sleep. Leave things here to us. Don't worry, the murderer won't come back."

After hearing him say that, Lin Yueyue gradually relaxed: "Thank you for your help."

After Lin Yueyue closed the door, Xu Zhi took down the surveillance camera on the wall and turned around to call Bai Xiao.

The phone was still switched off.

Xu Zhi was somewhat puzzled.

That's really strange. Logically speaking, my master shouldn't be asleep at this time. Why would his phone be off?

Did she go to get her feet washed again?
