Chapter 91 My name is Tang Xiaoman

Chapter 91 My name is Tang Xiaoman

Just as he had this thought.

Xu Zhi suddenly came to his senses.

Something's wrong! Something's very wrong!

He's not a murderer, so why would he have such thoughts?

Xu Zhi slapped his head twice.

Xu Zhi took a deep breath before walking towards the little girl and greeting her in a very gentle voice: "Little girl, it's so late, why are you out alone? Where are your parents?"

The little girl ignored Xu Zhi, instead lowering her head, hugging her knees, burying her face between her legs, and remaining silent.

Seeing this, Xu Zhi became even more certain that his guess was correct.

He approached the little girl, squatted down, and looked at her: "Did you have a fight with your family? Uncle is a policeman, shall I take you home?"

The little girl looked up at Xu Zhi with timid eyes: "Really?"

"Of course, Uncle is here to catch bad guys. You can talk to Uncle if you need anything." Xu Zhi finished speaking and reached out to pat the girl's head.

After hesitating for a moment, the little girl poured out all her grievances: "My dad is a liar. He said he would buy me a birthday cake."

Xu Zhi laughed upon hearing this: "Tell your uncle what your name is, and I'll buy it for you, okay?"

"My name is Tang Xiaoman," the little girl answered in a clear, crisp voice.

"Come on, Uncle will take you to buy a cake and give you a happy birthday." Xu Zhi stood up, took the little girl's hand, and walked towards the nearby cake shop.

"Thank you, Uncle." Tang Xiaoman nodded happily.

soon.

The two then went to the cake shop.

A variety of cakes filled the display case, emitting an enticing aroma. Tang Xiaoman's eyes lit up. Excitedly, she grabbed Xu Zhi's hand and pointed to a cartoon cake decorated with pink cream: "Uncle, look, that cake is so pretty! It's a little white rabbit!"

"Wow, there are even red pandas."

"The puppy is so cute."

Tang Xiaoman pointed excitedly at the cakes as if she had discovered a new continent.

Xu Zhi couldn't help but chuckle at her appearance.

The shop owner stood in front of the cashier calculating the bill, glancing up at Xu Zhi every now and then, his expression somewhat tense.

Tang Xiaoman wandered around the store for a long time before finally choosing a cake decorated with a teddy bear and a rainbow.

"Uncle, I want this."

"Okay, Uncle will buy it for you." Xu Zhi nodded with a smile.

Xu Zhi led her to the cashier to pay the bill.

The boss's hands visibly trembled as he began packing the items, his movements unsteady.

Xu Zhi noticed his movement and asked, "What? Do you know me?"

"No...no, I don't know you, and I didn't see anything." The shop owner wiped the cold sweat from his forehead, chuckled a few times, and continued packing, only this time with even faster movements.

The boss only breathed a sigh of relief after Xu Zhi paid the bill and left.

Xu Zhi carried the cake and snacks and led Tang Xiaoman back.

Tang Xiaoman held onto Xu Zhi's hand tightly the whole way, skipping and hopping.

Following the direction pointed out by Tang Xiaoman, Xu Zhi and his companion soon arrived at an old residential building.

Do you want me to take you upstairs?

Xu Zhi stood downstairs and looked up. The entire building was dark and eerily quiet.

"Mmm." Tang Xiaoman nodded.

Which floor do you live on?

"Fourth floor."

Xu Zhi, holding Tang Xiaoman's hand, had just walked up the stairs when he coughed loudly and found that the motion-activated light was not working.

Is it broken?

He frowned slightly, somewhat puzzled.

He took out his phone from his pocket, turned on the flashlight, and the faint light illuminated the surroundings as he carefully led Tang Xiaoman up the stairs step by step.

We finally arrived at the fourth floor.

"Uncle, that's my house," Tang Xiaoman said, pointing to the innermost door.

Xu Zhi glanced at it and saw that there was no house number on the door, only two tattered couplets.

He stepped forward and knocked on the door.

The door opened, and a middle-aged woman peeked out. Seeing Tang Xiaoman, her face lit up with surprise and delight: "Xiaoman, where have you been? Your dad and I were so worried!"

Tang Xiaoman said happily, "Mom, look, Uncle bought me a birthday cake!"

The woman saw the cake in Xu Zhi's hand and looked at him suspiciously: "Who are you?"

"Oh, I'm from the Criminal Investigation Division, my name is Xu Zhi. I saw this child sitting alone on a park bench while I was jogging, so I brought him back to you on my way," Xu Zhi explained.

Upon hearing this, the woman gratefully grasped his hand and said, "Officer, thank you so much. It's all my husband's fault. He was so busy with social engagements that he forgot Xiaoman's birthday. How much did the cake cost? I'll come inside and get it for you."

Xu Zhi smiled and said, "It's not worth much. It's alright, as long as the child is safe."

"No, that won't do. You wait here, I'll go get it for you."

"Really, it's not necessary. Um... if there's nothing else, I'll be going now."

Xu Zhi put the cake on the shoe cabinet and quickly left.

Xu Zhi hurried downstairs, and just as he reached the corner of the stairwell, he suddenly saw someone hiding in the corner.

The man, dressed in a security guard uniform and holding a flashlight, froze upon seeing Xu Zhi. Then, as if struck by lightning, he abruptly took a step back.

But he lost his balance and tumbled down the stairs.

He instantly fell flat on his face.

Ignoring the pain, he turned and ran away almost scrambling.

He ran while shouting.

"There's a ghost! There's a ghost..."

Xu Zhi was completely bewildered by this sudden action. He was about to chase after the person to ask, but the person ran very fast and disappeared in the blink of an eye.

Only a flashlight was left, lying alone on the ground.

Xu Zhi walked over, picked up the flashlight, and shone it around.

The hallway was quiet, except for the sound of my own breathing and the slight wind.

There was nothing there.
