Chapter 112 The figure in the white uniform

Chapter 112 The figure in the white uniform

After making inquiries with several friends, Yu Qing arrived at Wang Jie's funeral.

The funeral was held in a simple funeral home. Not many people came to pay their respects; most of them were Wang Jie's friends and some neighbors.

Wang Jie's coffin was placed in the center of the mourning hall, covered with white chrysanthemums. Around the hall were wreaths and elegiac couplets with various eulogies.

Yu Qing and Lu Chi, dressed in black, arrived at the mourning hall and silently looked at the coffin in front of them, feeling a deep sadness in their hearts.

Although Wang Jie and he were just ordinary friends, his enthusiasm and straightforwardness left a deep impression on them. He couldn't accept that his familiar friend had left so suddenly, as he should have had a bright future ahead of him.

Outside the mourning hall, the sound of firecrackers rang out. These were set off by relatives and friends who came to attend the funeral, signifying that Wang Jie had left this world. As his family, they knelt before the coffin amidst the sound of firecrackers, weeping bitterly.

Yu Qing's gaze was drawn to an old woman, Wang Jie's mother.

She wore a white cloth over her head, knelt in front of the coffin, her hands gripping the edge of the coffin tightly, her face covered with wrinkles and tear stains, and she was sobbing uncontrollably.

She lost her husband years ago, and now she has lost her son.

Wang Jie's death was a huge blow to her.

Yu Qing immediately recalled that Wang Jie had vowed last night that he would make sure his mother had a good life. No one expected that today he would be the one to bury his son.

From now on, her mother will be all alone. How will she face the gossip around her?

The two stood in the crowd, surrounded by somber funeral music.

Yu Qing felt a surge of anger for no reason. If it had been an accident, he might have felt better, but this was murder, which had extinguished a beautiful family in pain and despair.

The funeral proceeded quickly. The emcee read a few eulogies, and then invited Wang Jie's family and friends to come forward and offer flowers. Yu Qing and Lu Chi also stepped forward, each holding a white chrysanthemum, gently placing it on the coffin, and then bowing deeply.

When Wang Jie's mother saw Yu Qing and Lu Chi, her eyes were red and her voice was choked with emotion: "Thank you for coming to see him off on his final journey. Jie always talked about you to me, saying that he met a good older brother."

"Actually, it wasn't his birthday yesterday. He just wanted to treat you to a meal."

"He always said that good deeds are rewarded and evil deeds are punished, and that a drop of kindness should be repaid with a spring of gratitude. I never expected something like this to happen."

Yu Qing felt a surge of sadness well up in her heart, her eyes welled up with tears, and she dared not look Wang Jie's mother in the eye.

According to his mother, the police have not found any clues, and the case may be temporarily shelved.

The murderer remains at large, and retribution has yet to come.

Wang Jie's mother saw the two to the door and then bowed deeply to them.

Yu Qing and Lu Chi quickly helped her up.

The crowd gradually dispersed, and the funeral ended.

But Wang Jie's death will not end so abruptly.

Yu Qing stood at the entrance of the funeral home, watching people leave one after another, and looked up at the gloomy sky.

"what goes around comes around."

"Even if Heaven doesn't help you get justice, I will definitely find the real culprit and give you justice."

Yu Qing's eyes, however, revealed a hint of determination.

...

"Brother Wang, why did we come to Wang Jie's funeral?"

Xiao Wang and Xiao Liu, dressed in plain clothes, sat in a corner, their eyes filled with a hint of doubt.

Looking at the noisy crowd around him, Xiao Wang said seriously, "Team Leader Bai once said that there is a high probability that the murderer will return to the crime scene to admire his work. This is like us scouting the location in advance."

"Team Leader Bai did say the murderer would return to the scene, but he didn't say the murderer would return to the banquet table. How can we possibly catch him like this?" Xiao Liu sat at the banquet table, holding chopsticks in his hand, looking at Xiao Wang with a puzzled expression.

"I don't know either." Xiao Wang's eyes were full of confusion. He originally wanted to bring Xiao Liu to scout out the place, but they arrived too late and the banquet was already over. Since they were already there, they figured they might as well have a meal.

Xiao Liu shook his head, somewhat speechless: "Brother Wang, you're being too hasty. We're here to investigate a case, not to eat at a banquet."

"Anyway, I already gave a gift, so it's not like I ate for free," Xiao Wang said calmly.

"But I gave the money as a gift!" Xiao Liu was on the verge of tears.

"It's alright, just go back and ask Director Yuan for reimbursement."

Xiao Liu sighed, picked up a piece of chicken leg meat, and stuffed it into his mouth.

He looked around and noticed that very few people had come to the feast.

There are about six or seven tables like this, with ten people per table.

Suddenly, he thought of something and asked Xiao Wang, "A murder case that happened yesterday, and the burial is today? That's too strange. Aren't you going to conduct an autopsy and open a case?"

"Director Yuan said that this case will be shelved and not filed for investigation for now," Xiao Wang said while eating.

"Huh? Why isn't a case being filed?" Xiao Liu exclaimed in surprise.

"I don't know either. We'll just do whatever the boss tells us to do."

"Weiwei said this case is similar to the one from a year ago, and it might have been done by the same person. Should we start investigating the previous case first?" Xiao Liu said in a low voice.

Xiao Wang was stunned for a moment after hearing this.

Looking at Xiao Liu with admiration, he nodded: "I think you're right. After we finish eating, let's get started."

Xiao Liu complained, "I really don't know what the leaders are thinking. It's not like the bureau is short of people. Sending the two of us to investigate a case is just a joke."

Xiao Wang sighed, "If only Captain Bai and Captain Xu were here, they could probably solve this kind of case in two days. We small fry would never be able to solve it even after two years."

"Yeah, with them gone, the bureau will be without its key personnel. How will we survive from now on?" Xiao Liu smiled bitterly. Even a low-level henchman has his own troubles.

After the two finished their meal, they went downstairs.

Just then, Lu Chi and Yu Qing passed by Xiao Wang, who suddenly stopped in his tracks.

Seeing him staring blankly, Xiao Liu asked curiously, "Brother Wang, what's wrong?"

Xiao Wang didn't answer, but just stared blankly at Yu Qing in front of him.

Following his gaze, Xiao Liu saw a figure dressed in black slowly walking down the stairs. The figure and posture reminded Xiao Liu of someone.

"That figure... looks like Captain Bai," Xiao Wang said softly, his eyes filled with a hint of nostalgia and loss.
