Chapter 66 Lu Chi's Essay

Chapter 66 Lu Chi's Essay

The day before the college entrance examination.

The last class.

As the bell rang, the homeroom teacher, Old Xu, gently placed the chalk back on the podium, as if drawing a period to a chapter of time. He looked quietly at the students below, his tone filled with reluctance: "That's all for today's class. Tomorrow we'll be going to the battlefield. Don't be nervous, just treat it like a regular exam. Don't review when you get home, just get a good night's sleep."

"You don't need to hand in the essays your Chinese teacher assigned. They are essays you wrote for your deskmates, so you should hand them to them in person. But I still suggest you look at them when you get home, so that some of you don't end up crying and others get into fights."

The classroom fell silent for a second, and everyone looked at each other in bewilderment.

Yu Qing was very embarrassed.

He never expected that what he wrote would end up in Lu Chi's hands. He should have known better than to write something so sentimental.

But since the teacher had spoken, he had no choice but to bite the bullet and hand the essay to the other person.

"Look, we'll check again when we get back, understand?"

"oh!"

Lu Chi nodded, then took out his essay from his bag and handed it to Yu Qing.

Yu Qing reached out and took it, then put it in her schoolbag.

Old Xu watched this scene with satisfaction, and it also reminded him of his own youth.

But all good things must come to an end.

"I've been running overtime for three years now, so I'm not going to do it for the last class."

"After tomorrow, you will fly far away, and your teacher will return the way you came."

"Alright, everyone, you can all leave now!"

Nobody moved.

The air seemed to be muted.

Old Xu closed the book, but a rare smile appeared on his lips: "What, do you want me to say a few more words?"

The next second, the whole class stood up in unison, and the desks and chairs collided with a sound like a tidal wave.

Some people shouted, "Thank you for your hard work, teacher!" while others choked up and said, "Teacher, we can't bear to part with you."

The scene was like a funeral.

Finally, Old Xu stood at the classroom door, watching his students walk out one by one.

He turned to look at the podium, staring at the empty seats, wiped his face with his hand, and muttered with a low laugh, "You little brats, fly higher!"

As they say, the last person to leave closes the door the softest.

...

Yu Qing returned home.

I closed the bedroom door and eagerly opened my schoolbag.

Take out Lu Chi's composition book.

He took a deep breath and slowly turned the book over.

He originally thought the other person's writing was just as sentimental as his.

Until he saw the first sentence.

Yu Qing's face immediately darkened.

"My deskmate is an idiot."

"They always say that, and I've always thought so too. If a person's IQ can be defined by a score, my deskmate should get 0."

"To be honest, I used to hate my deskmate, and everyone in the class hated him too. But then he seemed to change, and I don't know why."

"It was raining that day, and he reached out and handed me an umbrella. I realized that he wasn't so bad after all."

“My deskmate always stood up for me. I didn’t understand why he would lend a helping hand to someone like me. I asked him about it, and he just said he couldn’t stand it. He gradually changed everyone’s impression of him. He could solve problems in real life that he couldn’t solve in the exam. His kindness, courage and sense of justice are high scores that no formula can calculate.”

"I am very grateful to my deskmate. He rekindled my hope for the world and shared the excitement with me."

"I want everyone to know that my deskmate is not stupid. I hope he can prove himself in the college entrance examination. I hope we can go to the same university. I hope we can continue to be deskmates for the next four years."

Yu Qing stared at the last line of text, her eyes stinging from the bright light.

To be honest, he wasn't confident about tomorrow's exam.

Should I repeat it?

Yu Qing had never thought about this question.

Since his rebirth, he has been avoiding Lu Chi and is eager to graduate as soon as possible. It doesn't matter which university he attends; even if he only attends a vocational college, he is confident that he can live a wonderful life.

Just stay far away from Lu Chi.

But now the truth has come out: Lu Chi did not kill anyone.

He dispelled his only concern.

There is still a chance for everything to change.

He should really work hard for his future this time.

Repeating a reading is not a way out, but rather a way to lead fellow travelers to a broader future.

...

On the other side of the city.

Lu Chi also put down the notebook in his hand.

After reading Yu Qing's essay.

His face showed no emotion, he just stared blankly at the photos of his parents on the wall.

I watched it for a very long time.

...

At 5:40 a.m., before the alarm clock rang, Yu Qing opened her eyes.

The sky outside the window was gray and hazy. Yu Qing sat on the bed for a while as usual, then picked up her cup and prepared to wash up. As soon as she opened the door, she smelled the aroma of scallion oil wafting from the kitchen.

Li Qiulan was wearing an apron and busy at the stove when she heard a noise and turned around.

"Go wash your face quickly. Mom fried you a sunny-side-up egg, a double-yolk egg, for good luck!"

Looking at the steaming bowl of thin noodles on the dining table, Yu Qing asked in surprise, "Mom, didn't you go to work today?"

“This is an important moment in your life, and Mom wants to cheer you on, so I took half a day off.”

Yu Qing was taken aback, and a warm feeling welled up in her heart.

He said helplessly, "You know my grades, no matter how much encouragement I give, it's all in vain."

Li Qiulan put the chopsticks into her son's hand and straightened his collar: "It's okay if you don't pass the exam. Mom can support you. But you have to show some attitude. If you hand in a blank paper like you usually do, people will look down on you, and Mom can't bear the shame."

"Don't worry, Mom, I know what I'm doing."

Yu Qing lowered his head to eat his noodles, his throat burning from the heat.

At 7:00 sharp, he did a final check of his schoolbag; his admission ticket, ID card, 2B pencils, and black ballpoint pen were all there.

Li Qiulan insisted on delivering it, but Yu Qing refused.

As soon as Yu Qing came downstairs and reached the entrance of the residential area, he saw Li Fei squatting by the roadside. When he saw Yu Qing come out of the entrance, he immediately stood up and ran over to her.

"Brother Qing, let's go to the exam together."

Yu Qing looked at his clothes and asked in surprise, "Why did you cut your bangs?"

"Ugh, don't even mention it. My dad cut my hair while I was sleeping, saying it was too long and I was always looking at people sideways, which was disrespectful to the examiners," Li Fei sighed.

Li Fei originally had very long hair, and with his slender arms and legs, he liked to wear tight pants. Now that he has only cut his long hair, he looks like a walking ping-pong paddle.

Yu Qing burst out laughing when she saw his expression.

"Haha, I never knew your head was so big."

Li Fei wasn't annoyed.

Actually, he already knew about his big head problem.

He was in kindergarten at the time. When he came home, the TV was showing "Big Head Son and Small Head Dad". When he saw the Big Head Son, he seriously suspected that he was his long-lost younger brother.

Later, he stumbled upon the game Audition Online in an internet cafe and was immediately drawn to its cool and stylish hairstyles.

So he went further and further down the path of the "Shamate" subculture.

"By the way, Qing-ge, what are you planning to do after the college entrance exam?" Li Fei suddenly asked.

"Go to university!" Yu Qing answered without hesitation.

Li Fei seriously doubted that he had misheard: "What? Go to college? You're not kidding me, are you? If you can get into college with your grades, I'll eat two pounds of shit."

"No need for eating shit, I'm afraid you're just trying to freeload. If I get into university, you'll buy me a full set of League of Legends skins, okay?"

"That won't do. What if you just go to some lousy university? I'd be at a huge loss."

"Who would go to a diploma mill? If I were to go to one, I'd go to a teachers' college."

"Okay, deal."
