Chapter 45 I'll Kill You, You Monster

Chapter 45 I'll Kill You, You Monster

The lights in the hallway were dim.

A tense atmosphere hung between the two.

Yu Qing stood there, his heart skipped a beat, and his throat tightened. He took a deep breath and tried to make his voice sound calm: "I heard something happened to your family, so I came to check on you."

Lu Chi's eyes flickered for a moment, seemingly surprised, but he quickly regained his composure, his tone tinged with weariness.

"No...it's nothing serious, come in!"

Lu Chi stepped aside, gesturing for Yu Qing to come in.

Yu Qing hesitated for a moment, but still went inside.

The room was even dimmer than the hallway, and the furnishings were very simple: an old sofa, a small television, and several boxes of miscellaneous items piled up in the corner, making it look particularly cramped.

The air was filled with the scent of herbs.

Lu Chi put the cat down, went to the kitchen, poured a glass of water, and placed it on the table: "Sit down...sit down for a moment. The medicine in the kitchen is ready. I'll go give Grandma her medicine first."

"It's alright, you go ahead with your work."

Yu Qing waved his hand.

Lu Chi nodded, picked up a bowl of Chinese medicine, and turned to walk towards the bedroom.

Upon seeing Lu Chi enter the room, Yu Qing's gaze wandered around, examining every corner of the room, trying to find something in this small space.

Although he knew that Lu Chi would never make such a basic mistake as leaving the murder weapon in such an obvious place.

But no matter how perfect the plan is, it is still impossible to eliminate low-probability events, such as his sudden appearance at Lu Chi's house today.

If you deviate from the plan, things will go wrong.

If a mistake is made, Yu Qing will find the details.

As the art of war says...

The key to victory lies in striking unexpectedly and catching the enemy off guard.

That's why Yu Qing came.

Unfortunately, Lu Chi did not show any panic when he first saw him; he was just slightly surprised.

Therefore, he needs to continue waiting for an opportunity.

Yu Qing glanced down at the time on her phone, then looked at the slightly ajar bedroom door.

Right now.

Then Yu Qing picked up the remote and turned on the TV, randomly selected a weather forecast channel, and pretended to be watching TV out of boredom.

As the host spoke, Yu Qing slowly moved her feet while surveying the room's layout.

The room wasn't big, and everything was laid out in the open, completely visible. But it was precisely because it was so obvious that it gave people the feeling that it was deliberately faked.

Yu Qing glanced at the photos briefly, her gaze finally settling on the family photo behind the sofa.

The picture frame is old.

This photo was probably taken before Lu Chi's parents were in the car accident.

The man in the photo is wearing a white shirt and black trousers, with a confident and mature smile on his face.

The woman standing next to the man was wearing a pale yellow dress, her long hair was piled up high, her hand was on the man's arm, and she was smiling very happily.

What really caught Yu Qing's attention was the little boy between the two of them.

The boy looked to be about five or six years old, with a resemblance to Lu Chi in his features. He stared blankly at the camera, and although he was smiling, there was a subtle hint of sarcasm at the corners of his mouth, as if he were being forced to do something boring, yet also revealing a suppressed restlessness...

His presence disrupted the originally happy and harmonious atmosphere, adding a highly ironic and eerie feeling.

Yu Qing squinted and stared at the small photo for a long time.

As a child, Lu Chi clearly hadn't learned how to hide himself; his arrogance and disdain were clearly visible to others.

He has now completed his evolution and is closer to being a mature being.

It's like a wolf in sheep's clothing, blending in with the flock of sheep, no different from ordinary people.

Yu Qing looked away. Although the photo revealed some suspicious details, it wasn't enough to prove anything. What he needed was more direct evidence.

If there's one place in the entire room where evidence of a crime is most likely to be found, then there's only one.

Yu Qing then turned her gaze to another door.

That was Lu Chi's room.

He slowly and quietly approached the closed door. The bronze color on the doorknob had faded and looked somewhat mottled.

He reached out and touched it.

But then he inadvertently caught sight of the black and white cat behind him. It sat motionless behind him, its two eyes gleaming faintly in the dim light, as if it could see through his thoughts and stared straight at him.

Yu Qing was startled by the sudden gaze.

Although it's just a cat, it can't speak or tell anyone, but perhaps because it feels guilty, it always gives people a sense of being discovered and spied on.

He instinctively stopped what he was doing, took a deep breath, and calmed his unease. He kept telling himself that it was just an ordinary cat, and there was nothing to be afraid of.

Moreover, Lu Chi was still feeding him medicine in the next bedroom. This was a golden opportunity for him. If he missed this chance, the other party would definitely learn from their mistake and move the evidence to a safer place.

He had to strike first before the other side was ready.

Yu Qing gritted her teeth and gripped the doorknob.

Twist it hard.

The door remained completely still.

The door... was locked.

Yu Qing was stunned.

First of all, Lu Chi couldn't have expected me to come today, so why would he lock his bedroom door?

Could it be... that he had been on guard all along?

"Ah, monster, you monster."

"I'll beat you to death, I'll beat you to death, you monster."

Just then, a sharp, piercing scream suddenly came from the bedroom next door.

Yu Qing quickly pulled her hand away from the doorknob.

The black and white cat was also startled and jumped onto the sofa.

He held his breath, involuntarily took a step back, and stared intently at the half-open bedroom door.

Immediately afterwards, the sound of a bowl shattering on the ground was heard, followed by a series of crashing and smashing sounds, and the old man began to wail and howl.

After a while, the sounds in the room gradually quieted down, and the bedroom door was pushed open a crack, revealing Lu Chi's figure emerging from behind it.

He was holding shards of glass in his hand, and his short-sleeved shirt was stained with some brown medicine, making him look somewhat disheveled.

At this moment, Yu Qing had already returned to the sofa and was pretending to watch TV.

He saw Yu Qing and silently threw the shards of glass in his hand into the trash can: "Sorry, I scared you just now."

"Is your grandma alright?" Yu Qing asked cautiously.

“She sometimes acts like this; her mental state is unstable, and she often talks nonsense to herself. The doctor said that her brain has deteriorated significantly, and she has been relying on medication to maintain her condition for the past few years.”

"So you're taking care of her all by yourself now?" Yu Qing asked tentatively.

"There's no one else." Lu Chi said calmly.

Yu Qing felt as if something was blocking her throat. She wanted to say something comforting, but felt that anything she said would be pale and powerless.

The room was silent, with only the mechanical voice of the weather forecaster on the television echoing through the room.

The night outside the window was as dark as ink, and occasionally a few wisps of cold wind would sneak in through the cracks, making one feel chilly.

The cat on the sofa approached Lu Chi and rubbed its head against his trouser leg, meowing as if it were being affectionate or trying to soothe him.

Lu Chi bent down and hugged the black and white cat in his arms, gently stroking its head. The cat squinted its eyes in his hands and purred lazily.
