Chapter 128 Life is always boring
The party ended quickly.
Everyone else had left, but Shen Ran was in no hurry to leave.
She first went to the office and casually dealt with her work.
She didn't have much work to do today, but she dragged it out until the early hours of the morning, leaving with several department managers, chatting and laughing.
Upon arriving at the underground parking garage, she deliberately walked under the security cameras and even greeted the security guard in a very friendly manner, all to create an alibi and allow herself to escape perfectly.
As for whether the man would implicate her, she wasn't worried, because she had never said anything detrimental to herself; it was all his own doing.
She was also a victim.
Shen Ran sat in the driver's seat, fastened her seatbelt, started the car, and drove away.
He had already dismissed the servants from the villa, making the huge house seem exceptionally empty, like a ghost town.
She had considered sparing Lin Chengyu's life and then forcing him to sign the share transfer documents, but the purpose of doing so was too obvious, so the murder could only be an accident.
Although the results were far less than expected, who can say for sure what will happen in the future?
There's no rush, there's plenty of time.
Shen Ran entered the password and opened the door.
The room was dimly lit, and the floor was covered with a white waterproof membrane. You could vaguely see a shadow on the sofa, sitting there motionless.
A strong smell of blood filled the air.
Shen Ran frowned.
When she turned on the light, she immediately put on a panicked expression.
That expression wasn't faked.
She was genuinely frightened.
Lin Chengyu was sitting alive on the sofa. His once neatly combed hair was now disheveled, and there were traces of blood on his face.
He was bent over, holding a knife in his hand, and was trimming his nails. He was standing on a tall man who was 1.9 meters tall. The man was bound with duct tape and his mouth was stuffed with socks, making muffled noises.
The moment the lights came on, Lin Chengyu turned his head to look at Shen Ran, a satisfied yet perverse smile on his face.
"You're back?"
Shen Ran's heart sank to the bottom.
She knew she had failed.
He couldn't help but curse inwardly, "Useless thing."
But she cannot reveal it yet.
She knew the other party wouldn't betray her.
She took a deep breath, trying to calm herself down, and said in a calm tone, "Home is not your hunting ground, and I am not your audience. I don't want to clean up your mess. I advise you to behave yourself recently. The police are pressing hard, and the last case hasn't been resolved yet."
Lin Chengyu stared intently at her without saying a word. His eyes were sinister, like those of a wild beast, inspiring fear and sending chills down one's spine.
Shen Ran changed her shoes, picked up her bag, and carefully stepped into the living room.
She tried her best to appear natural.
The door was open. She had changed her high heels into flats. She didn't get too close to Lin Chengyu. This distance was safe; if anything happened, she could easily escape.
Lin Chengyu slowly got up from the sofa, and Shen Ran couldn't help but take a step back.
Lin Chengyu looked at Shen Ran's little movements and asked with a smile, "Are you scared?"
Shen Ran's heart raced, but she still obediently nodded. Sometimes, showing weakness appropriately is not a bad thing.
"Are you afraid of me, or the man beneath my feet?" Lin Chengyu pointed his knife at the man beneath him.
"I think you've gone mad from taking drugs," Shen Ran said calmly.
Lin Chengyu crouched down and gently tapped the man's face with the back of his knife: "Do you really think someone like this can kill me?"
After saying that, he pulled a bottle of vitamins out of his pocket: "Still think this bottle of medicine can kill me?"
Shen Ran's pupils contracted.
She clearly remembered that she had always kept the medicine well hidden, so how did it end up in Lin Chengyu's hands?
Shen Ran stopped pretending. As long as the other party was willing to talk to her, there was still room for negotiation: "When did you find out?"
Lin Chengyu fiddled with the medicine bottle in his hand: "I knew it from the first time I went to the hospital."
"Then why didn't you expose me on the spot?"
Lin Chengyu tilted his head back and twisted his stiff neck, saying lazily, "People like us have everything from the moment we are born. Life is boring, so we need a little excitement to get rid of the boredom. Why do you think I didn't expose you? I was just playing along with your performance. I also wanted to see what would happen if I took this medicine."
After saying that, he threw down the knife in his hand, opened the bottle cap, poured a handful of pills into his hand, swallowed them in one gulp, closed his eyes and carefully felt them. Although his expression was painful, he seemed to be enjoying it.
"Madman!" Shen Ran muttered under her breath.
"They all call me crazy, artists are all crazy."
Lin Chengyu didn't care at all, looking completely absorbed.
He felt surrounded by bizarre and fantastical sounds, sometimes distorted, sometimes dreamlike. The music was so beautiful that he felt like an artist conducting an orchestra, waving his hands and playing solo.
Seeing Lin Chengyu's frenzied state, Shen Ran felt fear for the first time.
"Name your terms, how can you let me go?"
She knew the consequences of being exposed. The pervert in front of her was no kind person and wouldn't let her off so easily. Instead, he was waiting for her to make her own demands.
"The gate is open; you can leave at any time."
Lin Chengyu said with his eyes closed, not taking her seriously at all.
Shen Ran clenched her fingers. She was a rather proud and confident person, but today her confidence and pride were ruthlessly trampled and mocked.
Lin Chengyu's indifferent attitude made her feel humiliated, frustrated, and even terrified.
Just as she went up to untie the man.
Lin Chengyu's next sentence was like an iron hook, dragging her self-esteem back inch by inch into the golden cage.
"Once you step out of this door, your car, house, luxury goods, bank cards, and the life you yearn for will be gone forever. You need to think this through."
Upon hearing this, Shen Ran stopped what she was doing.
Fingertips hovered above the knot, trembling slightly.
Her mind flashed back to the moldy walls of the rented room, the steamy mirror from instant noodles, the grinning white sneakers, and the bus that required queuing for half an hour to squeeze onto.
Poverty is like a deep well; it took her ten years to climb out of the edge.
She finally has the life she has now, does she want to go back to living that poor life?
How could she possibly accept this sense of loss?
Lin Chengyu gently hugged her from behind, buried his head in her hair, and while inhaling her fragrance, handed her the knife in his hand, whispering, "Don't be afraid. As long as you kill him, I will forgive you. After all, you haven't done anything too outrageous, have you? We are a match made in heaven."
The bound man struggled violently, making muffled noises as he shook his head repeatedly.
Shen Ran's hand holding the knife trembled violently.
