Chapter 11 The proof of the land was stolen.

Fang Qing still had a smiling face.

"Second Grandma said that the land was owned by your family, so tell me how many people in your family worked there, and when did you work?"

"What do you care who does the work...?"

"I'm afraid Second Grandmother can't explain it clearly."

Zhang's eyes darted around, and she casually made up a story: "Your second grandfather and I did the work together, we started working on it half a month ago."

"Really? Then I heard that my second grandfather and second grandmother spend all day playing cards under the big tree at the village entrance, and they don't even come home for lunch. My aunt also takes care of the crops in the fields."

The couple was known throughout the village for their love of playing cards; they spent almost all their time at the card table except during the busy farming season.

Thinking about it this way, it's indeed impossible for such a lazy person to reclaim wasteland.

Zhang panicked as soon as Fang Qing finished speaking.

"I misspoke earlier. It was my eldest son and daughter-in-law who went to clear the land."

"Your uncle and second uncle work for others in the county town and don't come back for ten days or half a month at a time. Do you mean they sleepwalk in and come to clear land for you at night?"

A burst of laughter erupted from the crowd, and Zhang was utterly humiliated.

"You little brat! Just because you say that piece of land is yours doesn't mean it's yours. What can a child like you do? I bet you're just trying to take advantage of someone else."

Fang Qing smiled.

"Has Second Madam finally admitted that she wanted to take advantage of the situation?"

Zhang's face flushed red instantly.

"Don't change the subject!"

"Oh, why doesn't Second Grandma believe that it's mine? Although I'm only six years old, I can use a sickle and swing a hoe. How can I not cultivate the land? Besides, I never said that I cultivated it myself!"

Zhang was visibly taken aback.

"Didn't you say your father didn't know?"

"Yes, my dad doesn't know, but my mom does."

Zhang suddenly realized that she had been tricked by the child, and her face turned even redder with anger.

Fang Qing looked at Zhang Shi with a smile.

"Second Grandma, one shouldn't be greedy!"

Zhang was so angry she wanted to hit someone, and it was time for the village chief to speak up.

"Alright, enough with all this messing around. Fang Lao Er, you're something else. You don't even take care of your own crops and you're thinking of farming other people's land. Aren't you ashamed?"

Fang Lao Er had been hanging his head since earlier, but upon hearing this, he nodded repeatedly.

Before Zhang could say anything more, Fang Lao Er quickly pulled her away.

"Why are you pulling me? I don't believe that land belongs to her..."

"Alright, isn't that embarrassing enough? Go home now."

The village chief also closed the door.

As Fang Qing walked towards the back of the mountain, many people asked her if that land belonged to her.

"Of course, there's a certificate from the village chief."

As soon as she said that, those who were still plotting something dispersed.

Fang Qing went to check on the earthworms loosening the soil at the foot of the mountain, while Zhang Shi, who had returned home, had an argument with Fang Lao Er.

"Useless! You can't even do this simple thing right."

"Is it really necessary? Those two plots of land don't look good either. You won't get a good harvest no matter what you plant there. What's the point?"

"That's better than nothing. No, I just can't swallow this."

After saying that, Zhang went to Fang Qing's house.

Zhang and Wang Cuihua were sisters-in-law. Their relationship wasn't good when they were young, but after their elders passed away, they lived separately and maintained a superficial relationship.

When Zhang arrived, Wang Cuihua was mending clothes.

"Oh dear, sister-in-law, these clothes are so old, you might as well just throw them away, why bother mending them?"

The old woman glanced at her.

“How can we just throw it away? We need to save our money for Eryou’s education.”

"Modern bean sprouts have money, why would they need to spend your money?"

This puzzled the old woman.

"What money do bean sprouts have?"

"You don't know yet, do you? Your Douya and her mother secretly cultivated two acres of land on the back mountain. Although the land is not good, if you sell these two acres of land, it can still be worth a tael of silver."

The old woman immediately put down her needlework.

"What? Is it really true?"

"Why would I lie to you? Everyone in the village knows about it now. I was just trying to keep it from you, sister-in-law."

The old woman slammed her hand on the table in anger.

"You bastards! They eat and drink my food, and they even keep some for themselves! I'll teach them a lesson they won't forget!"

The old woman rolled up her sleeves, ready to teach the woman a lesson, but Zhang quickly stopped her.

"Sister-in-law, don't be impulsive. Your little sprout is very sharp-tongued now. How many times have you suffered at her hands? You can't go to her rashly."

"Then what should we do?"

"Isn't that simple? Sister-in-law, listen to me."

Zhang whispered something in the old woman's ear, and the old woman's face turned greedy.

Seeing the old woman's appearance, Zhang knew that the two acres of bean sprouts were doomed.

Since she can't have it, then the bean sprout shouldn't have it either.

She left the Fang family without hesitation.

No sooner had the man left than the old woman quietly went to the west room and rummaged through it.

When Fang Qing returned home, Zhao pulled her into the kitchen.

Zhao heard about the land incident from outside, and when others asked her about it, she brushed them off, waiting for Fang Qing to come back and ask her for clarification.

Fang Qing admitted that she had cultivated those two acres of land.

"Don't worry, Mom. The village chief has a certificate for those two acres of land, and it's registered in my name. We'll have more confidence now, so don't be afraid of that old man."

As she spoke, Fang Qing glanced at the main room and found it unusually quiet.

"You little brat, you actually did something so important without telling me or your father!"

"If I discuss this with you, that old woman will surely know. Wouldn't my land reclamation be doing her a favor?"

Looking at Douya, whose personality had changed drastically from before, Zhao felt uneasy.

They were all forced into it.
