Fang Qing rushed out of the house, picked up an axe by the south wall where she was chopping wood, and headed towards the main house.
Hearing a loud thud as the door was kicked open, Zhao looked up and saw Fang Qing's back with an axe in her hand. Startled, she rushed over.
The old woman was counting money under the bed with her buttocks sticking out when the noise outside startled her.
She scrambled to her feet in a panic and saw Fang Qing carrying an axe as she entered the inner room.
She was about to utter a string of curses when she met Fang Qing's fierce, murderous gaze, and she instantly chickened out.
"What are you doing?"
"Hand over what's mine."
The old woman's eyes were filled with panic.
"What are you talking about? I don't know what nonsense you're spouting."
"Stop pretending, where's the land certificate I kept under my pillow?"
The old woman crept along the wall, trying to sneak out, when Fang Qing smashed her axe on the table next to her. The old, dilapidated table creaked and broke one of its legs under the weight.
The old woman was so frightened that her face turned pale.
"You little hussy, are you crazy? That's my dowry!"
"If you don't hand over my things, this table will be your fate."
The old woman was both panicked and angry.
"I'm your grandmother! How dare you try to kill me? Help! Someone's trying to kill me!"
Zhao walked in and tentatively called out, "Bean Sprout."
Fang Qing only stared at the old woman.
"Hand it over!"
"Zhao, drag her out of here right now, or I'll beat you all to death... Ah!"
Fang Qing picked up an axe and smashed it at her.
The old woman screamed in fright and crouched down in the corner. The axe struck the spot where she had just been standing, and half of the axe was embedded in the earthen wall.
The old woman was covered in dust, and looking at the thing hanging above her head, she almost couldn't catch her breath.
The days when Fang Qing could be manipulated and molded at will are gone.
Only now did she realize the change in the bean sprout.
"Madman, madman..."
Just then, Fang Daniu suddenly walked in.
As soon as he got home, he heard screams coming from inside the house.
"What...what's going on?"
Upon seeing Fang Daniu, the old woman felt as if she had seen a savior, and tears streamed down her face.
"Da Niu, my dear son, this child wants to kill me!"
Anyone who saw this scene would side with the old woman. Fang Daniu quickly stepped forward to separate Fang Qing and the old woman, and also took down the axe embedded in the wall.
"Bean Sprout, what are you doing!"
Fang Daniu looked at Fang Qing seriously.
Fang Qing had calmed down a bit, but her eyes were still frighteningly cold.
"Father might as well ask her where she got those clothes."
Fang Daniu helped the old woman up.
"Mother, you..."
"What's wrong with me? I work so hard for this family, can't I even buy myself new clothes?"
Now that someone was backing her up, the old woman couldn't help but become arrogant again.
"If you want to make money by buying things, why steal my things to sell?" Fang Qing questioned.
"What's wrong with me selling your things? I'm your grandmother, your things are mine, what's the harm in me selling them?"
Fang Daniu interrupted the two and asked, "Mom, what did you sell with the bean sprouts?"
The old woman's eyes darted around.
"We didn't sell much."
Fang Daniu looked at Fang Qing, who said, "She sold my two acres of land."
"Two mu of land? Yours?"
Fang Qing told Fang Daniu about the two acres of land she had cleared in front of the mountain. Fang Daniu was initially incredulous, then shocked, and finally furious.
"Mom, I don't agree to let a child as young as Douya cultivate two acres of land. How can you just sell it like that?"
Fang Qing saw that Fang Daniu's tense emotions gradually relaxed.
"You won't let me sell people, and you won't let me sell goods either? Nothing grows on that alkaline land in front of the mountain, and I'm incredibly lucky to be able to sell a tael of silver. Why are you all getting so worked up with me?"
"Hmph, it's just land. There's so much land in front of the mountain, you can just go and cultivate it."
Although Fang Daniu felt bad that Douya's things were being sold, he realized that what his mother said was true.
Land can be reclaimed even if it's gone.
He paused for a moment and looked at Fang Qing.
"Bean sprouts..."
As soon as he opened his mouth, Fang Qing knew what he was going to say, and the little hope she had just had for him vanished instantly.
"Father, don't try to persuade me. If she doesn't hand over my things today, I'll report her to the authorities."
The old woman laughed dismissively.
"Go ahead, I'm your grandmother. Is selling your things against the law?"
"Of course, the certificate with the village chief's name on it is mine. You need my signature and fingerprint to transfer the property. If you sell my things without my knowledge, you deserve to go to jail!"
Upon hearing that she would be going to jail, the old woman shrank back and looked at Fang Daniu pleadingly for help.
"Bean Sprout, this is your grandma. There's no need to make such a fuss. I'll cultivate another plot of land for you another day..."
“Father, this is not just about two acres of land. If you indulge her today, even if you cultivate another two or ten acres for me in the future, it will still just go into her pocket at sunset.”
Fang Daniu must take a stand on this matter today.
If he insists on blindly obeying his parents' wishes, she will defend her rights in her own way.
Under Fang Qing's serious gaze, Fang Daniu looked conflicted.
Zhao felt uneasy watching this from the outside.
She still remembers the expression on Douya's face when he told her about the two acres of land that morning.
They were so confident and hopeful.
“Da Niu, this is Douya’s land, we have no right to make decisions for her…”
"You jinx, do you even have the right to speak here? Get out!"
