Chapter 17 Anyone can fan the flames

"Zhao Shi'an!"

The bean sprouts were waving at him.

Zhao Shi'an still walked over.

"Did you come here to see me?"

No, he went up the mountain to check the hunting traps.

But when he met her expectant gaze, he nodded as if possessed.

Those eyes instantly brightened.

"That's great, I knew you'd come."

"Let's plant potatoes. When they grow, I'll share half with you."

She got most of the points she earned from exchanging potato sprouts from Zhao Shi'an, and she'll definitely continue to get freebies from him in the future, so giving him half isn't unreasonable at all.

Zhao Shi'an glanced at the two acres of land.

For their current age, two acres of land is a huge undertaking.

It's really impossible to get bean sprouts, with their small bodies, to do these kinds of work.

After all, this fool is so protective of him, it's understandable that he'd help her with some chores.

He nodded, thinking this through.

Zhao Shi'an was in charge of digging the pits, while Fang Qing planted potatoes and covered them with soil. They finished two acres of land in less than an hour.

Fang Qing felt a great sense of accomplishment as she watched the once empty land transform into neat rows of furrows.

Zhao Shi'an went up the mountain without resting. Fang Qing originally wanted to follow, but he stopped her with an unquestionable "Don't follow me."

"Then be careful going up the mountain."

Fang Qing only looked away after his figure disappeared from sight.

Meanwhile, Dashan returned home in a huff. Zhang had just come back from playing cards and had lost money that day. She cursed at Dashan when she saw him.

"Where have you been playing around again? You're all dirty now, and you don't even help with the housework. What good are you?"

Da Shan's eyes turned red with grievance.

"Grandma, you don't go out to gamble all day, so why are you criticizing me?"

"You dare to talk back to me? I think you're as useless as a bean sprout. That brat must have taken some kind of spell and suddenly started getting on her mother's nerves. If you dare to follow her example, I'll break your legs."

“Douya’s grandma has never been good to her. What did Douya do wrong? Now she’s growing potatoes on her own, and her grandma won’t be able to control her anymore.”

Da Shan was truly envious.

Bean sprouts can actually grow crops; that completely outshines him.

"What? Bean sprouts are growing potatoes?"

"Yes, I went to check this morning, and they've planted a lot."

Zhang's heart skipped a beat.

She fanned the flames and urged Wang Cuihua to sell the land where the bean sprouts grew, but who knew that the idiot couldn't even get that simple thing done.

She repeatedly warned Douya not to use the money to plant anything, but she still did it!

No, she couldn't swallow this insult.

She didn't even cook lunch; she went to Douya's house instead.

Zhang saw Wang Cuihua at the entrance of the alley; she was sitting and chatting with Xiaoshuan's wife.

"Sister-in-law, you are really lucky. You can sit here and someone will help you farm."

The old woman glanced at her.

"That's right, my jinx is more useful than a donkey, she does all the work inside and outside."

Zhang scoffed inwardly at her smugness.

"I didn't say Da Niu's wife, I said Dou Ya. I heard that Dou Ya planted potatoes on that piece of land in front of the mountain, two acres of land. Your sister-in-law must have given a lot of money to buy the seeds."

The old woman's expression froze instantly.

"Who gave her the money?"

"It wasn't given by your sister-in-law? Then you should check if any money is missing from the house. Also, Bean Sprout has been getting quite close to that little bastard from the Zhao family lately. I've been smelling meat coming from the Zhao family's house every day these past few days. Has your Bean Sprout been secretly helping him out?"

The old woman was furious.

She never gave up on those two acres of land. She thought that since Douya didn't have money to buy grain seeds, he would have to bow down to her sooner or later, and that land would eventually be hers.

Now that they've planted potatoes, the money must have been stolen from her.

"This traitor, I'll beat her to death."

As she was about to go find Fang Qing, Zhang pulled her back.

"Sister-in-law, isn't that your bean sprout?"

As she spoke, she pointed to the end of the alley.

Then they saw Fang Qing carrying a hoe and walking this way.

"You little slut!"

The old woman rushed over, and Zhang followed with a smug smile on her face.

Fang Qing was blocked at her doorstep by the old woman.

"Tell me, did you steal my money?"

There should be a limit to falsely accusing someone.

Fang Qing was displeased.

"If you didn't steal my money, where did you get the money to buy bean sprout seeds?"

Fang Qing glanced at Zhang Shi, who had a smug look on her face.

"Anyway, I didn't steal any money."

"You say you didn't steal, then you didn't steal? Otherwise, where did you get the money? You're unwilling to give the land to your grandmother, and you even stole money from her. How little do you respect your grandmother?"

Zhang fanned the flames, making the old woman even angrier.

"Exactly, where did you get the money?"

Fang Qing glanced at Zhang Shi, then suddenly smiled and said, "So you didn't know, Grandma? The money was given by Second Grandma, who said I don't have to pay it back."

Zhang and the old woman were both stunned.

The old woman suddenly looked at Zhang.

"You're talking nonsense. Why would I give you money?"

Fang Qing looked completely innocent and bewildered.

“You gave it to me, saying that it wasn’t much money anyway, and that my grandma couldn’t take the land. Also… ah, Second Grandma, I forgot, you said you couldn’t let my grandma know about these things.”

"Pah, you liar! Do you think I have too much money to burn?"

The old woman's suspicious gaze fell on Zhang.

"Second Grandma, I know I was wrong. Please don't be angry. I think Second Grandma must have her reasons."

"You're talking nonsense!"

Zhang was so anxious she was about to explode.

How could she, who was so adept at spreading rumors, have imagined that she would be outmaneuvered by this little girl today?

Seeing Fang Qing's innocent appearance made her even angrier, wishing she could tear Fang Qing's face to shreds.
