Chapter 19 The Old Woman's Men

"What are you doing, you little slut? Don't touch my stuff!"

"You're saying this brightly colored rabbit head is your chicken? Aren't you afraid of being struck by lightning and killed by God?!"

"You've gone too far! Give me the stuff!"

"If you want to eat, I'll burn it for you after you die, but you can't touch Zhao Shi'an's things."

After saying that, Fang Qing didn't waste any more words with her, picked up the pot and ran outside.

The old woman chased after her.

"Give me my meat, you traitor! You actually sent our food to that little bastard! Stop right there!"

Their chase attracted a lot of attention.

"Bean Sprout, what are you doing? Why are you serving such delicious-smelling meat outside? No wonder your grandma will beat you."

"You're such a fool. Why can't you keep the good stuff for yourself? What do you get out of giving it to others?"

Fang Qing suddenly stopped and looked up at the group of people gossiping on the street.

“This doesn’t belong to my family. My grandmother took it from Zhao Shi’an’s house. Even this pot belongs to Zhao Shi’an.”

"What do you mean I stole it? That little bastard stole my chicken! I'm just getting my things back!"

"This pot clearly contains wild rabbit meat, which Zhao Shi'an hunted from the mountain! How blind must you be to say it's your chicken?"

"Bullshit, how could a kid like him hunt? He's probably stealing from someone else's house. If I find out, it's mine. Give it to me."

The crowd watching the spectacle seemed to enjoy making things worse.

"Alright, bean sprouts, if you don't want it, this pot of meat can be divided among us. We haven't had meat in a long time anyway."

"That's right. Nobody's going to stand up for that kid from the Zhao family. What's wrong with us eating one of his rabbits?"

"You're so protective of that boy, are you thinking of becoming his wife? Don't be silly, his father is an alcoholic, and he'll be an alcoholic when he grows up. How will you manage?"

Fang Qing was so angry that her face turned red.

The pot was too heavy, so she put it down at her feet and looked up at the person who had been talking the most enthusiastically.

That was Fang Guangzong, the most notorious lazybones in their village besides Zhao Jingzhong.

He lost his mother when he was young, and his father spoiled him, not letting him do any chores at home. He did nothing but eat and sleep, and he was almost thirty and still hadn't gotten married.

"So you think you can bully Zhao Shi'an just because no one stands up for him? So you mean we can all bully you once your father dies?"

Fang Guangzong stood up abruptly.

"If you dare laugh at me, believe me, I'll beat you to death."

"So you were afraid of being laughed at? But think about it, you don't need to worry about no one taking care of you after your father dies. After all, he's still very strong. Even at his age, he can still drag my grandma into the woods. Maybe he'll give you a big, chubby little brother tomorrow, and he'll spoil you just the same."

Fang Guangzong was stunned for a moment, then his face turned red instantly.

"You, you're talking nonsense!"

The old woman looked flustered.

"What nonsense are you spouting? I'll tear your mouth apart!"

Fang Qing picked up the pot and ran away, not forgetting to say, "Uncle Guangzong, if you're worried about your brother not taking care of you in the future, you can ask my grandma to give you a son. Didn't you and my grandma go into the woods together before?"

A burst of laughter erupted from the onlookers.

Fang Guangzong felt ashamed and went home cursing.

The old woman cursed Fang Qing's retreating figure with a string of foul words.

She was furious.

She felt that she had been very careful in doing these things, so how did Fang Qing find out about everything?

"Big Cow's Mom, is what Bean Sprout just said true?"

"Tell us, which of these two, father and son, do you like more?"

The old woman stood with her hands on her hips, glaring at them.

"You're all just jealous. You'd better keep your men in check, or your men will be the next ones serving me."

She turned and walked home, while the rest of the group of people cursed her for being shameless.

When Fang Qing arrived at Zhao Shi'an's house with the pot, his small figure was squatting in the yard sharpening a kitchen knife.

Looking at the gleaming blade, Fang Qing silently shivered. Only after repeatedly confirming with Xiao Dou that her villain value hadn't fluctuated did she step forward.

"Zhao Shi'an, I've returned your flesh."

Fang Qing felt somewhat uneasy.

"You're not angry, are you? My grandma was such a jerk, but luckily I found out in time and got the meat back for you."

Zhao Shi'an's gaze fell on the pot she was holding.

Aren't you tired?

"tired."

She carried the load the whole way, and her arms felt like they weren't her own anymore, but she didn't dare let go, afraid that the old woman would snatch them away.

Zhao Shi'an put down the cleaver, took the pot, and carried it to the kitchen.

Fang Qing followed and saw him put the meat on a stove.

"What are you planning to eat if there's no more meat?"

She noticed there wasn't much food in the kitchen.

"Didn't you bring it back to me?"

"ah?"

Fang Qing didn't immediately understand what he meant.

Zhao Shi'an turned and glanced at her, a barely perceptible smile flashing across his eyes.

“I know you will protect me,” he said.

Fang Qing smiled.

She laughed at how much he relied on and trusted her.

"Yes, I will protect you. But if they dare to steal your things again, you should take them back. Even if you hurt them, you will still be in the right."

However, recalling the scene of Zhao Shi'an sharpening his knife outside, Fang Qing added, "Of course, let's not cause any deaths, or things will get messy."

Zhao Shi'an always had a slight smile on his lips.

"Okay, whatever you say."

He actually found the feeling of living under someone else's protection quite nice.

Fang Qing found the child increasingly well-behaved.

She was starting to doubt whether the system's assessment of his villainous status was genuine.

This kid doesn't look like a villain at all.

"Then you eat well, I'm leaving."

Just as they were about to leave the kitchen, Fang Qing said again, "I'll come over tomorrow and cook you something delicious. It's not good to eat meat all the time."

Zhao Shi'an watched her figure disappear.

As Fang Qing expected, when she got home, the old lady was glaring at her.

"You little slut, you actually dare to come back!"

"Why wouldn't I dare? I wasn't the one stealing, and I wasn't the one having an affair. What reason do I have not to go home?"

The old woman got even angrier when this was mentioned.

"You're spreading rumors! How could I have had an affair with Fang Guangzong and his son? Aren't you afraid of embarrassing your father by spouting such nonsense!"

Fang Qing's mocking gaze fell on her face.

“My father didn’t do anything shameful, so why should he lose face? We can just split up the family property.”

The old woman's eyes widened upon hearing about the division of the family property.

Although she disliked her eldest son, Fang Daniu, he was indeed the one who supported the family, and separating from the family would not benefit her at all.

"Well, you little slut, I was wondering why your father was becoming increasingly disrespectful to me. Turns out you were the one stirring up trouble!"

"What a joke! Do you even need to sow discord between you two? Put your hand on your heart and tell me how my father treats you, and how you treat my father. Isn't it only a matter of time before my father becomes disillusioned with you?"

The old woman was so angry that her chest ached, and she couldn't do anything about Fang Qing. She went back into the house and kept cursing.
