Chapter 27: Making her a child bride for a fool

Zhao invited Zhao Shi'an to stay at her home for lunch.

They had just finished eating when someone came over.

Fang Qing didn't recognize her, but Zhao called her sister-in-law.

Fang Qing brought Zhao Shi'an into her room and listened to the two people talking outside.

This person is a matchmaker; from what I can tell, she's here to arrange a marriage for Fang Qing.

"Logically, I shouldn't have made this trip since your Douya is still so young, but the master said that the two children are destined to be together in a past life, and only by letting Douya marry him off early can they survive, otherwise..."

Fang Qing walked in before the matchmaker could finish speaking.

"Auntie, who sent you to arrange this marriage?"

The matchmaker's expression froze for a moment.

“The family from Zhangjiazhuang, the one I’m telling you about is the youngest son of the richest family in the village. He fell seriously ill a few days ago, and no matter what they did, he couldn’t get better, so they hired a master.”

"Guess what? The master said that this child had an unfulfilled marriage in his previous life, which he has carried over to this life. The master calculated the child's other half and specifically named you."

"The master also said that this is a predestined marriage from your previous life, and you must get married as soon as possible, otherwise you two may both die young."

Zhao had clearly believed these words, and her expression was anxious.

"Is it that serious? Maybe we should wait until Da Niu gets back..."

"What are you waiting for? The Zhang family's child is already sick, and your Douya will be next. Do you want to watch both children die together?"

Unable to make up her mind, Zhao subconsciously looked at Fang Qing.

"Look at the bean sprouts..."

Fang Qing didn't believe this nonsense.

"Whose child is Grandma talking about?"

The matchmaker stammered and hesitated before Fang Qing could even finish her sentence, finally uttering the name "Zhang Daikui."

Then Zhao was stunned.

"Isn't his youngest son an idiot?"

"What do you mean, 'idiot'? They're just not very smart. Isn't that because of the karmic connection between your Douya and their child in their past life? So hurry up and let your Douya marry into that family, or both children will suffer."

Fang Qing let out a cold laugh.

"You're talking nonsense with your eyes wide open. You're from Zhangjiazhuang? I think it was my second grandmother who sent you here."

Fang Qing was just testing her. Sure enough, after she finished speaking, the matchmaker's eyes darted around, which made her even more certain.

"How did we end up talking about your second grandmother? Although they are from the same village, they have no relation to your second grandmother. It was the Zhang family who sent me to discuss this marriage."

"Is that so? Then go back and tell the Zhang family that I do not agree to this marriage."

"Why are you so stubborn, child? This is a matter of life and death. Besides, the Zhang family is powerful and influential. If you don't agree, what will they do to your parents?"

"Then I'll report it to the authorities. It'll also be good for the county magistrate to investigate which master is swindling people and which unscrupulous matchmaker is involved in harming others."

The matchmaker got angry, stood up, pointed at Fang Qing, and started cursing.

"I used to think it was a lie when people said you weren't disciplined, but now it seems they weren't wrong at all. I'm not going to care about you anymore, do whatever you want!"

The matchmaker walked out angrily, but as she passed Zhao Shi'an, she suddenly screamed and fell to the ground.

"Oh dear, you tripped me. Fine, I've seen what kind of people your family is now. We'll see."

She fell hard, and now she walks with a limp.

Fang Qing smiled and gently grabbed Zhao Shi'an's hand.

"Well done."

Zhao Shi'an gave her a slight smirk.

"No, I have to call your father back. I can't make this decision myself."

Zhao was uneasy.

"Mother, don't worry. This was definitely a scheme by my grandmother and my second grandmother. There was no master at all."

"But the Zhang family insists on having you. I've heard that the Zhang family is very powerful in the surrounding area, and even our village chief doesn't dare to offend them."

"I won't implicate Mother then. I'll just run away into the mountains. If they can't catch me, they won't do anything to you or Father."

Zhao was still worried, but Fang Qing comforted her and took Zhao Shi'an to the back mountain to see their potatoes.

Fang Qing thought the matter of the matchmaker coming to her door was over.

But to her surprise, she was woken up by the noise outside before dawn the next day.

Fang Qing opened her eyes groggily and heard Zhao Shi opening the door and talking to someone.

Who are you?

"Hello, sister-in-law. I am Zhang Daikui from Zhangjia Village next door. I suppose the matchmaker came to your door yesterday to explain the matter between your daughter and my son. That's why I've come today."

Zhang Da Kui's attitude was relatively good, but Zhao Shi did not want to accept this inexplicable marriage.

“Brother Zhang, our family has no interest in this marriage. We already made that clear to the matchmaker yesterday.”

Hearing Zhao's words, Zhang Daikui, whose expression had been quite good, frowned slightly.

“Sister-in-law, this is a matter of life and death for our two children. It was said by the master that I would not dare to lie about such a thing. I wonder if Brother Da Niu is at home? I would like to have a good talk with him.”

Zhao gripped the doorframe tightly, not daring to let these people in.

“Da Niu isn’t home, so we don’t believe those baseless rumors. Even if Da Niu were here, we’d still give the same answer. The Zhang brothers should go back…”

"Hey, sister-in-law, don't be in such a hurry to refuse. I also brought a small gift with me this time."

As he spoke, Zhang Daikui waved to the people behind him, and the group of people carried two boxes and squeezed into the house.

The two boxes were opened. One box was full of cloth, and the other box was full of copper coins. This box was also short ten taels of silver.

Zhao had never seen so much money before. She was stunned at first, and then broke out in a cold sweat with anxiety.
