Chapter 31: The potato harvest inspired the whole village to reclaim wasteland.

The next day, Fang Qing asked Zhao Shi'an to give him the silver, but Zhao Shi'an didn't even look at it.

"That's a gift for you. Do with it however you like."

"You really don't want to?"

Aren't you annoying?

Seeing that he was really angry, Fang Qing finally accepted the money.

Fang Qing deposited the money into the system, and then went with Zhao Shi'an to herd sheep in the back mountain.

I never expected that Dashan would be here today.

The day before yesterday, Zhang brought him home and beat him up. In the end, Yingzi stopped him.

Da Shan was too embarrassed to see Fang Qing, so he only went out today.

"Bean Sprout, I'm sorry..."

"Why are you apologizing to me? You're the one who did something wrong."

Da Shan blinked.

"Are you really not angry with me?"

"Of course."

Da Shan burst into tears.

"Thank you, Bean Sprout. We'll still be good friends. Zhao Shi'an, you're my good friend too."

Zhao Shi'an turned his head away with an air of indifference.

He wouldn't stoop to being friends with children.

Anyway, after this incident, Dashan and Douya's relationship became even better. Even though Zhao Shi'an never gave him a good look, he was still brave enough to stick close to him.

Their three-person team often went up the mountain. Fang Qing would purposefully dig for medicinal herbs, while Zhao Shi'an would tinker with his traps, leaping and bounding up and down the mountain like a monkey.

After what happened last time, Zhang and the old woman never came to cause trouble again.

Smooth days always fly by, and before you know it, the potatoes in front of the mountain are ready for harvest.

Fang Qing kept a close eye on the area and, estimating that it was about time, dug up a potato.

Good heavens, that day she and Zhao Shi'an carried back a bamboo basket full of potatoes.

The largest potato was as big as a baby's head, which astonished Zhao.

The next morning, Zhao couldn't wait to take Fang Qing and the others to harvest potatoes.

Although she knew the potato yield was good, Zhao couldn't contain her excitement when she actually dug them up herself.

Their family used to grow potatoes, and at most they could only produce 600 jin per mu. But they only harvested two rows, so that must be at least 500 jin.

She had initially estimated that Zhao would be able to harvest the two acres of land in a day, but now she realized that she had been naive.

"Mother, shall we call someone to help us?"

Zhao agreed, returned to the village, and called Fang Sanhua's wife, who in turn called two other aunts.

"Wow, this is the first time I've ever seen such a big potato in all my years."

"Isn't the soil in this area in front of the mountain not good? How come they can still grow such good potatoes?"

Later, Dashan and his mother Yingzi came over, and the five adults and three children worked until the afternoon before finishing.

The potatoes from two acres of land were piled up in the field like a small mountain, and the workers couldn't help but praise them.

The potatoes were transported home by borrowing Fang Sanhua's oxcart after several trips.

The people who helped with the work today were exhausted, so Fang Qing invited them to stay for dinner and gave each of them a basket of potatoes before they left.

Every household in Potato Village grows a little bit of potatoes; it's nothing special. But they've never seen potatoes this big before.

So when they brought the things home, their family members were all stunned.

“These are potatoes that Douya and Zhao’s child planted in front of the mountain. I think the land there is very good. Let’s go and clear the land and plant potatoes like Douya.”

The news spread like this, and at first some people didn't believe that such a barren land in front of the mountain could grow anything good, until Fang Qing sold potatoes.

In the village, people usually take their produce to the county grain station to sell, but Fang Qing's family had too many potatoes, and one truckload wouldn't be enough to carry them all. So she had to find a way to get people from the county to come and collect them.

That makes it easy to find people; Aunt Zhou's family is a grain buyer.

Early in the morning, Fang Qing and Zhao Shi took eggs to visit the Zhou family in the county town.

Mrs. Zhou had already finished her postpartum confinement and was taking good care of her health at her parents' home. Her baby was also chubby and exceptionally adorable.

After Zhao told Zhou about their request, she immediately agreed and instructed the shopkeeper to arrange two large horse-drawn carriages to go to Fangjia Village to purchase land.

The shopkeeper initially said he would buy the potatoes at the market price of 2 coins, plus an extra delivery fee. But when he arrived at Fang Qing's house and saw the huge potatoes, he was so amazed that he decided to waive the delivery fee.

"I've never seen such a big potato before. If I kept it for seed..."

Realizing that Fang Qing was still nearby, the shopkeeper quickly shut his mouth, fearing that Douya wouldn't sell the potatoes, and urged the shop assistant to load them onto the cart.

The Zhou family members busied themselves weighing and loading the goods onto the carriages. The two carriages carried four thousand catties and sold them for eight taels of silver.

Eight taels! Who in the village could come up with that much money all at once?

Bean sprouts actually grew into potatoes after just one planting.

The neighbors admitted they were jealous, and they stayed up late into the night to clear land in front of the mountain.

Overnight, the more than 100 acres of land in front of the mountain were occupied by various families, and some people even fought over the land, but Fang Qing didn't pay attention to it.

Now that she has become rich overnight, she has agreed to give Zhao Shi'an half of her wealth, and she will also receive four taels of silver.

The next day, Fang Qing called Zhao Shi'an over and gave him four taels of silver.

"You keep it for me, I don't need the money."

Fang Qing hesitated, and Zhao Shi'an said again, "Isn't your family planning to build a house? Use these for now."

Fang Qing did need it, so she accepted it.

"Okay, I'll lend you this money first, and I'll pay you back after my new house is built."

Zhao Shi'an remained silent.

He didn't want Fang Qing to pay him back; it originally belonged to Fang Qing, and he had only helped her with some small favors, so there was no reason for him to accept the money.
