Zhang stared angrily.
"Who wants your potatoes? Do you really not want to sell us corn seeds?"
Not only Zhang, but everyone else in the village thought that Fang Qing was able to grow such good potatoes because of the land, and never thought about the potato sprouts.
"It's not that I don't want to sell, it's that I really don't have any."
"Okay, I'll go find your dad right now and see if he'll sell it to me."
As she spoke, she left with her people, and Fang Qing pursed her lips at her retreating figure.
Zhang went to the village chief's house and questioned Fang Daniu.
Before Fang Daniu could even speak, the village chief lost his temper.
"Enough of you all. What can you do all day besides gossip? I still remember what you said this morning, even though Da Niu didn't hold it against you. Get out of here. If you make things difficult for Da Niu again because of this, don't blame me for being impolite."
The village chief's anger frightened them so much that they dared not utter a sound and slunk away.
The news soon reached the old woman's ears, and she couldn't sit still any longer.
That evening, she went to Douya's house, but Fang Daniu opened the door and wouldn't even let her in.
She hadn't forgotten how she and Zhang had plotted to marry Douya off to a fool.
The old woman was so angry that she cursed at their door for a long time until Fang Sanhua set her dog on a rampage and attacked her, at which point she finally left.
Zhang couldn't swallow her anger when she got home, and at the dinner table, she asked Fang Lao Er to come up with a solution for her.
"What else can we do? They all said they don't have that many seeds left for bean sprouts."
"She's just lying and doesn't want to give it to us. I saw it this morning; there was a whole yard full of corn, at least two thousand catties."
Seeing that Fang Lao Er was still eating heartily, Zhang Shi was furious and snatched the cornbread from his hand.
"All you do is eat, eat, eat. I'm making you think of a solution."
"What can I do now that the village chief has spoken?"
"You good-for-nothing, what use are you?"
Fang Lao Er got angry too, and slammed down his chopsticks.
"How can you blame me for this? Who told you to always cause trouble for the bean sprouts when you have nothing better to do? And now you want to buy their seeds? You have no shame."
“Exactly, if I were a bean sprout, I wouldn’t sell it to my milkman either,” Da Shanweng said in a deep voice.
"You two traitors, how dare you criticize me? I've been doing all this for the family!"
She started crying as she spoke, but Fang Lao Er and the others didn't want to pay attention to her. After finishing their meal, they all went back to their rooms.
Zhang felt uneasy no matter how she thought about it. The next day, while cutting potatoes, she suddenly remembered the potatoes that Fang Qing had planted before.
Douya said that he planted it with Zhao Shi'an and made so much money from it. Zhao Jingzhong probably doesn't know that.
If they don't give us corn seeds, nobody will want to have an easy time.
