Chapter 40 Fang Er is courting death

Fang Qing felt embarrassed by their gazes; she even felt that these people were about to kneel down before her at any moment.

Before the misunderstanding deepened, she quickly stepped forward and helped the sorceress up.

"I think you've misunderstood. I'm just a bean sprout, not some kind of superhuman you're talking about."

The fortune teller was a little afraid to look her in the eye.

"No……"

“I’m really not. This is my father, and that’s my mother. I’ve lived here since I was a child. I did change my personality, but I was forced into it.”

The fortune teller looked at her and opened her mouth.

"I see."

But she still maintained a respectful attitude towards Fang Qing.

Fang Qing felt that she simply didn't understand.

"I apologize for bothering you today, goodbye."

As she spoke, she picked up the dagger from the ground, turned around and was about to leave when she suddenly saw Zhao Shi'an, and she stopped in her tracks.

She stared at Zhao Shi'an for a moment, then said, "Your sins are grave. Do more good deeds, or you will implicate those around you."

After saying that, she turned and left.

Zhang was stunned. Wasn't today the day to subdue the demon?

"Witch, please wait! You can't leave!"

Zhang stopped the person immediately.

"Didn't you say that Bean Sprout was dead? Didn't you say that she was a demon? Or that her cultivation was too profound and you dared not take her in?"

"It was my mistake. Now that Bean Sprout is protected by a divine being, how could she be a demon? You yourself harbored evil intentions and wanted to harm others. Don't let jealousy blind you, or you will be abandoned by everyone."

This was a warning given to Zhang by the sorceress, but she wouldn't listen.

All she knew was that if she couldn't deal with Fang Qing today, she would have to be mindful of Fang Qing's feelings in the future.

"Did the bean sprout give you something in return? Why can't you leave? What happened today..."

She tried to chase after Zhang to stop her, but Da Shan's father grabbed her arm.

"Mother, what exactly do you want to do?"

"How dare you talk to me like that? I'm doing this for the sake of our village. Bean Sprout is a demon, that's exactly what the sorceress just said."

"Enough!"

Da Shan's father yelled at Zhang Shi.

"Sorry, Da Niu, I have to go now."

As he spoke, Da Shan's father pulled Zhang Shi, who was cursing and swearing, out of the house.

Da Shan also felt ashamed and followed along with red eyes.

The lively atmosphere vanished, and Fang Daniu looked at Douya with an embarrassed expression.

Not only him, but everyone in the courtyard turned their attention to the bean sprout.

They had heard everything the fortune teller had said.

Fang Qing felt somewhat embarrassed by all the stares she was receiving.

"Let's forget what the fortune teller said earlier. I've been raised by you all, don't you all know what I look like? It was all a joke, everyone, please continue eating."

"Yes, everyone, please continue eating."

Everyone returned to their seats, but they still couldn't forget the fortune teller's words.

Bean sprouts are protected by a divine being.

Why protect only her?

Everyone was smiling on the surface, but they were all thinking about this in their hearts.

Zhao Shi'an was also distracted.

He knew he was deeply guilty.

So, will it bring misfortune to those around you?

He gripped the chopsticks tightly, when suddenly Fang Qing grabbed his hand.

"Don't be afraid, I will protect my brother."

Zhao Shi'an was stunned for a moment, then hurriedly lowered his eyes.

That idiot.

Are you really that good to him?

Fang Qing held his hand tightly, just as she had said she would protect him forever.

Meanwhile, Zhang was taken home by Da Shan's father, and she continued to shout and curse all the way.

"You bastard, not only will you not help me, you'll also not give me any face!"

"Aren't you embarrassed enough? What has Bean Sprout done to you that you keep picking on her?"

Zhang was so angry that her chest heaved.

She didn't know, she just couldn't stand the sight of bean sprouts.

"I just hate her, I can't stand to see her doing well!"

"Wake up! We're barely able to afford food, and you still have the energy to find fault with others? Instead of wasting your time causing trouble for Bean Sprouts, you should be working in the fields!"

After saying that, Da Shan's father didn't want to talk to him anymore and turned away.

Dashan sat on the threshold, also fuming.

"Grandma, you really embarrassed yourself today. If you continue like this, I'm not going to acknowledge you as my grandma anymore, and we'll split up."

Zhang's temper flared up as soon as she heard that.

"What did you say? You learn bad things instead of good ones! I'll beat you to death!"

She came up and hit Dashan, but Dashan pushed her away forcefully.

"Alright, I'm not fighting back out of respect for you. Otherwise, do you think I can't beat you? Think about it carefully."

As he spoke, Dashan ran out as well.

Zhang sat down on the ground and started crying.

"A bunch of ingrates, we really raised a bunch of ingrates."

*

The news that the sorceress had performed a grand ceremony for Fang Qing at her home spread throughout the entire village in less than half a day.

Some people actually believed it to some extent, finding Fang Qing to be quite mysterious.

Some people scoffed, thinking it was a performance by Fang Qing and the sorceress, but once they heard that Fang Qing had made a lot of money from collecting herbs, everyone rushed to imitate her.

So within two days, the mountain that no one dared to go up before suddenly became much more crowded.

Some came to collect medicinal herbs, while others came to gather some mountain produce.

There's nothing left to collect in the area where Fang Qing and the others used to frequent, so they haven't been up the mountain much. They spend their days herding sheep and cutting grass, which has made their lives quite leisurely.

On the other hand, the old woman's life has been miserable ever since the family divided their property.

Fang Eryou would only go home when he was broke, let alone do chores for her, so she had to do everything at home.

She did the corn picking herself, and after finishing four acres, she was so exhausted that she looked like a ghost.
