Fang Daniu jumped up and walked out, taking down the hemp rope hanging on the wall at the gate.
Fang Sanhua quickly followed.
Fang Qing chased after him, but Zhao Shi'an stopped her.
"What's wrong, bro?"
“Let’s go to your grandma’s house, so she doesn’t move the cow away.”
"Then hurry up."
They ran fast and soon arrived at the old woman's house.
The gate to the house and yard was tightly closed, and the door was bolted from the inside.
However, a section of the earthen wall collapsed during a recent heavy rain. Fang Daniu had repaired the wall long ago when he was at home, but now that no one is helping the old woman with the work, she is too lazy to fix it.
The dilapidated courtyard wall was simply covered with firewood, and Fang Qing and Zhao Shi'an easily squeezed inside.
The old woman had just closed the door and came out when she saw the two of them come in, and she was startled.
"How did you two get in here? Get out!"
Fang Qing looked at the familiar courtyard and knew the cows were there without even looking inside.
There were still two puddles of cow dung in the yard that hadn't been dealt with yet.
"Hand over my cow!"
“Where is your cow? Get out of my house.”
"Still trying to deny it? I saw it all!"
The old woman panicked, grabbed a shovel and shoveled away the cow dung, then used the shovel to threaten Fang Qing and Zhao Shi'an.
"What are you looking at? Get lost!"
Just then, a commotion came from outside.
It was Fang Guangzong's screaming voice.
"Fang Daniu, you're asking for it! How dare you kidnap me? Is there no law anymore?!"
"Fuck your mother, you son of a bitch, let me go!"
Fang Guangzong cursed, but Fang Daniu remained unmoved.
He just went to Fang Guangzong's alley, tied up Fang Guangzong who was fighting, and brought him over to confront the old woman.
When they reached the gate, Fang Daniu tried to kick it open, but the door opened from the inside.
"Dad, come in quickly! Grandma has locked our cow inside."
With a dark expression, Fang Daniu threw Fang Guangzong into the courtyard.
"Fang Daniu, what are you doing!"
The old woman felt sorry for Fang Guangzong's bruised and swollen face, and quickly stepped forward to help him up.
"Look what you've done to them!"
"I didn't hit that."
Fang Daniu kicked Fang Guangzong hard, which provoked Fang Guangzong to curse him.
"Are you crazy? What do you want to do by bringing so many people here?"
Fang Daniu sneered.
"Don't you know what I want to do?"
"I know what you're doing, you lunatic! Get out! All of you get out of my house!"
Seeing the old woman protecting Fang Guangzong in her arms, Fang Daniu felt utterly humiliated.
Although he knew the old woman had an ambiguous relationship with someone, he still couldn't accept it when he saw it with his own eyes.
"How could you do this to my father?!"
"Why are you bringing up your short-lived, dead father now? He's dead, why should I remain a widow for him? He's dreaming!"
Seeing her crazy state, Fang Daniu squeezed his eyes shut.
"Alright, let's wait for the village chief and clan chief to arrive before we talk about it!"
The old woman's face turned several shades paler from the panic.
"You even called the village chief and the clan chief?"
Fang Daniu ignored her, which made the old woman so angry that she started hitting him.
"What are you trying to do, you bastard?"
"I just want my cow back!"
"Where is your cow? If you lost your cow, go find it. What are you doing here? Get out! What sins have I committed to have given birth to such a scoundrel like you?"
Fang Daniu shook off her hand and was about to say something when Fang Sanhua arrived with the village chief and clan chief.
"What's going on? All we do every day is deal with your family's problems. When will this ever end?"
The village chief looked impatient.
"It's troublesome that the village chief and clan chief have come over. Today, this matter must be decided by you."
Someone had already brought a stool for the clan chief to sit down.
The village chief looked at Fang Guangzong, who was bound hand and foot, and then at the old woman with a grim expression.
"What is it? Speak."
“My cow went missing last night. I think the village chief has heard about it. Now my cow has been found and the thief has been caught.”
The village chief's gaze fell on Fang Guangzong again.
"Is it Fang Guangzong?"
"yes."
As soon as Fang Daniu said that, Fang Guangzong, who was tied up, started cursing.
"Fang Daniu, you're talking nonsense! I didn't steal your cow! You're slandering me! Village Chief, you have to stand up for me, or I'll be wrongly accused to death by Fang Daniu!"
The village chief glared at him.
"Da Niu, you said Fang Guangzong stole your cow, do you have any evidence?"
"It was Douya and Xiao Zhao who heard it."
The village chief glanced at Fang Qing and Zhao Shi'an.
“Children…what did you hear? Tell me.”
“In the afternoon, my brother found sunflower seeds in front of the cattle trough. We didn’t have any of these snacks at home, so they must have been left by a cattle thief. My brother and I thought that Fang Guangzong’s family roasted sunflower seeds, so we secretly went to his house.”
“He and my grandma were about to have an affair, and they even brought up our cow. My grandma had hidden the cow, and they said they would divide the spoils in a few days. Later, Fang Guangzong found my brother and me and threatened us to shut up. Luckily, my brother and I ran home.”
Fang Qing briefly explained the situation.
"Fang Guangzong, is what Douya said true?"
How could Fang Guangzong possibly admit it?
"No, village chief, don't listen to her nonsense. She's clearly slandering me. They're looking for a scapegoat after the cow went missing."
The old woman's eyes darted around.
“Yes, village chief, you can’t believe her. You don’t know Bean Sprout; she’s a habitual liar…”
