Chapter 79 The Boy in the Village

Fang Qing quickly grabbed his arm.

"Brother, Big Tree is just joking. Don't listen to his nonsense."

"There will be better people for you, Bean Sprout." You don't deserve it.

Zhao Shi'an said coldly.

Fang Dashu chuckled.

Better?

Are you?

Little wolf cub, don't think I can't see through your thoughts.

"Yes, Douya will definitely find a better husband, first of all, she needs a harmonious family."

The little wolf cub is not qualified to do this.

Fang Daniu and his wife were unaware of their back-and-forth banter and responded with a simple "yes".

Fang Qing finished her meal by the time Fang Sanhua came to call Fang Dashu to leave.

"I've finished eating. I'm going to Majiazhai today, so I have to go."

"I'll go with you."

Zhao Shi'an then stood up.

"Brother, aren't you going to read?"

"It's not a big deal to make a difference to one more day."

"Okay, let's go then."

After the two left the house, Fang Daniu and Zhao Shi brought up what had just happened.

"I think the big tree is good."

"I think it's fine, but Bean Sprout and Big Tree have the same surname, so marriage between them wouldn't be good, would it?"

"They share the same ancestry but are from different clans, and they've gone through several generations of kinship, so intermarriage is not a problem."

"Then I'll ask Douya what she thinks another day. She's very opinionated and won't let us make decisions on our own."

*

Fang Qing and Zhao Shi'an traveled for an hour by carriage to reach Majia Village.

This is a village located on a mountain. It was built to escape war, and the only way to reach the foot of the mountain is through a very narrow stone path.

The villagers rarely communicated with the outside world, and over time, the village became isolated from information. Fang Qing only learned of the existence of Majia Village a few days ago when she met an old man selling grain to buy medicine for his grandson in a town at the foot of the mountain.

The horse-drawn carriage stopped at the foot of the mountain, and the workers began unloading grain seeds.

Ten workers had to carry over a thousand kilograms of seeds into the mountains.

Fang Qing and Zhao Shi'an led the way at first. She was carrying several packets of herbs for the old man, but Zhao Shi'an took them away shortly afterward.

The stone steps were in disrepair and some parts had collapsed, so they walked carefully.

After walking and resting for nearly half an hour, Fang Qing finally saw a stone tablet that read "Majiazhai".

They arrived.

It was obvious that no one had been to their village before. Upon seeing their group, the children playing at the village entrance were so frightened that they ran into the village in a flash.

They had just entered the village gate when several burly men carrying pitchforks came out and pointed their pitchforks at them.

Upon seeing this, the workers that Fang Qing brought quickly shielded Fang Qing and Zhao Shi'an behind them.

"Who are you people?"

"Please don't be impulsive, everyone. I'm here to deliver food seeds."

Fang Qing quickly came out to explain.

"What seeds? We don't need them. Who exactly are you?"

Just as Fang Qing was about to explain, an old man's voice came from behind them.

"It's Miss Fang, everyone please don't attack her, she's a good person."

The group of people holding weapons looked at Fang Qing and her group suspiciously.

"Old Zhong, was it you who told them the way up the mountain?"

Old Zhong spoke kindly to the burly man at the head of the group, saying, "Chief, Miss Fang is a good person. She was the one who bought medicine for my grandson last time."

The man known as the chieftain looked them over again, his gaze finally settling on Zhao Shi'an.

"Not someone from the imperial court?"

Zhao Shi'an's aura was truly extraordinary.

“We are from Fangjia Village. This is my brother. He is still a scholar and hasn’t become an official yet.”

Fang Qing tried her best to express herself in a kind manner.

The leader inspected the items they had brought before putting away his weapons.

Why are you sending us seeds?

He still harbored some wariness towards Fang Qing.

"Well, a few days ago I ran into an old man on the street and saw the grain he was selling. That's when I realized that our village is still using seeds from several years ago..."

"You want to help us?" the chieftain interrupted Fang Qing.

"Yes, I know that our village also cultivates a lot of land. Perhaps you don't know, but the grain yield outside is completely different from a few years ago..."

"You're really that kind?"

The chieftain interrupted Fang Qing again.

"Hmph, no one gets up early for nothing. Why would a businessman like you help us for no reason? Get out of here and don't try to fool us."

Fang Qing almost couldn't maintain her friendly smile.

Did she really want to come to this place that involves traversing mountains and valleys?

It was because the system that had been withdrawn suddenly assigned her a task a few days ago, asking her to help the people of Majiazhai.

She didn't say how she would help, but the first thing she thought of was escaping poverty.

But now it seems that escaping poverty is not so simple.

The village chief beckoned his men to close the village gate.

Old Zhong stopped him.

"No, Chieftain, Miss Fang really came to help us. Everyone down the mountain knows she's a great philanthropist who has helped many villages. What she just said is true. Everyone outside is living a good life now, with enough to eat and wear. Life is much better than before."

"Old Zhong, you've gone down the mountain and your heart isn't with our village anymore? I kindly took you and your grandson in, but if you don't want to stay in our village, then go down the mountain and don't bring outsiders in!"

He was so big that when he spoke loudly it sounded like he was yelling, and Old Zhong was so frightened that he took a step back.

Just then, a boy suddenly ran out and shielded Old Zhong behind him.

"Don't touch my grandpa!"

The boy was in his teens, about the same height as Fang Qing, very thin, and pale-faced, clearly frail and sickly.
