Chapter 418: Lord Feng Requests an Audience
The King of Qi held a dagger and stabbed the Emperor of Northern Qi in the throat with quick and fierce movements.
Unfortunately, he was a step too slow. A scabbard was thrown from behind and hit the King of Qi's arm hard. The King of Qi was attacked and his arm became weak. The dagger fell to the ground with a "clang".
A ghostly figure leaped down from the beam, clawed its five fingers into claws and grabbed the King of Qi's shoulders, throwing him to the ground, with a long sword against his neck.
The King of Qi lay straight on the ground. The severe pain in his shoulder brought him back to his senses. When he saw the bloodstains on the neck of the Emperor of Northern Qi and realized what he had done, his face turned pale.
He had no intention of actually killing the Northern Qi Emperor. He was just stimulated by those words, and all the emotions that had been accumulating in his chest burst out, and he became murderous.
The Northern Qi Emperor had a gloomy expression on his face. He raised his hand and wiped his neck, his hands covered in blood.
He was still frightened when he thought of the scene where the King of Qi rushed forward with a dagger in hand. If the secret guard had been a little later, the King of Qi would have succeeded.
The Northern Qi Emperor covered his neck with his hands, looked at the King of Qi with anger in his eyes, and said angrily: "You bastard, who gave you the courage to kill your father and usurp the throne!"
"Who gave you the courage?" After his fear subsided, the King of Qi calmed down completely and said angrily, "According to our ancestral teachings, you should have appointed me Crown Prince long ago to stabilize the government. But instead of appointing me Crown Prince, you supported the Virtuous Prince. The Virtuous Prince repeatedly attacked me, and Concubine Shu both openly and covertly targeted my mother. You saw it all, yet instead of punishing Concubine Shu, you demoted the Virtuous Prince and promoted him secretly."
"Shufei and Xian Wang threatened your position, and you had no choice but to punish them. I thought I could live a peaceful life with my mother from now on. But you gave Guangling Wang power, allowing him to suppress me at every turn. In order to gain merit in your presence and impress you, I ignored my injuries and went to track down the remnants of the previous dynasty. Who would have thought I would be ambushed and nearly lose my life?"
"The throne of heir should have been mine. No one has a better claim to it than me. I just need to wait for you to tire of it and then hand it over to me. But my brother covets this position, so I have no choice but to fight for it. If I don't, my mother and I will both die."
"But what about me fighting? I almost died too. I don't want to accompany you anymore. I don't want to live in fear anymore. I might as well give it a try. If I succeed, I can rest easy from now on. If I lose...hahahahaha, I'll just die."
"Isn't this the outcome you wanted to see?" King Qi was very emotional. "You forced me to do this. You forced me to do all this."
The Northern Qi Emperor listened to the King of Qi's words, filled with grievance and resentment, and his chest was filled with anger. He looked at the King of Qi with sharp eyes. The King of Qi was so angry that his neck touched the sword blade, and blood stained his collar red.
He believed that he knew his son very well, and even if the King of Qi had a hundred courage, he would not dare to come to the Yangxin Palace alone to assassinate him.
Furthermore, the King of Qi regarded the throne as a sure thing, so why would he take the risk and attack him just because he was ambushed and almost lost his life?
Or was it that the virtuous king was kicked out, leaving him with only two sons, the king of Qi and Zhao Yi, and the king of Qi knew that he would not hand over the throne to Zhao Yi, so he dared to commit regicide?
Because no matter how angry or foolish he was, he would still consider this breath of blood and would not sentence the King of Qi to death.
The Northern Qi Emperor's face was gloomy: "You think that since I only have you as my only son, you dare to commit the heinous crime of regicide. Are you sure that I dare not kill you?
"You have the final say in Northern Qi. Whoever you command to live lives. Whoever you command to die dies. How dare I presume to guess your Majesty's will? I have no chance of winning. Rather than watching them steal my things and then die miserably at their hands, I'd rather take the risk and try to survive." The King of Qi screamed hysterically, "Come on, kill me! I've committed the heinous crime of regicide and never thought I'd live!"
At this point, the King of Qi could only resort to provocation.
The more he sought death, the more suspicious the Emperor of Northern Qi was, and the less likely he would be to die peacefully.
What's more, once he dies, the court will definitely be in turmoil.
According to ancestral teachings, the eldest legitimate son should be appointed as the heir. If there is no legitimate son, the eldest son will be appointed as the heir. The throne will fall on Zhao Yi.
The Emperor of Northern Qi would never kill him before taking back the military power from Zhao Yi or summoning the wise king to the capital.
The Northern Qi Emperor looked at the King of Qi's frantic expression, his face livid. Before he could give any orders, a eunuch at the door shouted, "Your Majesty, Lord Feng requests an audience."
