Chapter 439 Concealing Identity

Chapter 439 Concealing Identity

A tall figure emerged from the alley, clad in a ivory-colored Taoist robe. His every move exuded an air of nobility. His handsome face, radiating a gentle expression, made him appear quite approachable.

As soon as the man appeared, he instantly attracted everyone's attention.

The beggar was ready to make a move.

Suddenly, the attendants who had been hiding in the dark came to protect the man.

Seeing the agile and brave escort, everyone immediately backed off and watched the man enter the teahouse nearby.

Jiang Mu naturally noticed it as well, and asked in surprise, "Prince Yu?" He asked in confusion, "Didn't Prince Yu take his bride back to Great Zhou?"

"Yongqing County is the only way back to the Great Zhou." Zhao Yi looked at the teahouse and said in a subtle tone, "Now that Yongqing County is in turmoil, the road must be blocked."

Apart from this, there is no other reason for Prince Yu to stay in Yongqing County.

Jiang Mu was feeling uneasy. In Prince Yu's heart, interests were the most important thing.

When the master was in the Great Zhou Dynasty, he posed a threat to Prince Yu, and Prince Yu attacked the master in secret.

Now that the master has come to Northern Qi, he has no competitive relationship with Prince Yu. In order to prevent the master from returning to Great Zhou, Prince Yu secretly helps the master consolidate his position in Northern Qi.

Now that Prince Yu has married Princess Guangning and returned to the Great Zhou, he is staying in Yongqing County, which is indeed a hidden danger.

If Prince Yu had any evil thoughts, it would be very disadvantageous to the master.

Jiang Mu asked cautiously, "Should we send someone to keep an eye on Prince Yu?"

"There's no need to be wary of Prince Yu." Zhao Yi looked at Jiang Mu's bewildered expression and explained, "My staying in Northern Qi is not only not a threat to Prince Yu, but also a boon. If I ascend the throne successfully, Northern Qi and Great Zhou will become friends."

Jiang Mu was about to say something when a scream echoed through the silent street.

"Help--"

He looked in the direction of the sound and saw soldiers dragging the beggar away by force.

There was crying and the scene fell into chaos.

Jiang Mu gripped the scabbard tightly in his hand and prepared to step forward.

"Jiang Mu." Zhao Yi watched as the soldiers snatched the rough bowl from the beggar's hand, smashing it to the ground and dragging the beggar away. The fragments pierced the beggar's feet, leaving blood marks with every step. He clenched his fingers and said in a low voice, "Drive the carriage."

Jiang Mu regained consciousness, realizing he'd nearly ruined the situation. He shuddered. He stared at the wailing beggar, his fists clenched until they crackled. He took a few deep breaths, suppressing the rage rising in his chest, before getting on the carriage and driving.

The driver who had gone to inquire about the news came trotting over and climbed onto the shaft of the cart. While driving with Jiang Mu, he replied, "Master, I asked a few rice shops, and they all sell grain for fifteen cents a pound."

Zhao Yi had an idea in mind and looked at the rice shop again. All the beggars had been taken away, leaving only a mess on the ground.

The driver stammered, "I also heard a piece of news. They said that the government sent people to arrest the beggar because you were going to Yongqing County."

Zhao Yi frowned and raised his hand to knock on the car wall twice.

Jiang Mu received the signal, immediately pulled the reins, jumped off the carriage, and followed the soldiers.

At the same time, in the private room on the second floor of the teahouse, Prince Yu stood by the window, watching Jiang Mu lurking in the dark and leaving with the officers and soldiers.

He withdrew his gaze and was about to lower the window when he discovered that Zhao Yi's carriage had stopped at the door of the teahouse again.

Prince Yu looked over and met Zhao Yi's cold eyes.

After just one glance, Prince Yu lowered the window.

The confidant asked, "Your Highness, if we stay in Yongqing County, won't it delay our work?"

When they passed through Yongqing County, they heard about the riot there, so His Highness decided to stay and postpone his return to Da Zhou.

Prince Yu said calmly, "I know what's going on."

He thought about the increasing number of soldiers at the city gates and the increasingly strict searches over the past two days, and guessed that the county magistrate was on guard against Zhao Yi. But now Zhao Yi had entered the city without disturbing the county magistrate, apparently concealing his identity.

Now Zhao Yi is worried about the beggar who was captured by the soldiers, but he is temporarily unable to do anything.

Prince Yu didn't know what he was thinking about, but he raised the corner of his lips and ordered his confidant to do it.

Upon hearing this, the confidant looked at Prince Yu in astonishment, but did not dare to raise any objections and had to get to work.
