Chapter 3: The marriage between Xie Mansion and Wei Mansion
The Mid-Autumn Festival soon arrived. Early in the morning, Wei Qingcheng hid in Zhang's house and played mahjong with Zhang Zeyu. Wei's mother prepared a room full of clothes and sent Xiao Cui to look for Wei Qingcheng's room, but she came back empty-handed.
On the square table, Wei Qingcheng fiddled with the cards in her hand: "Awu, after this game, take Wang Yu with you, and go buy some nice clothes. I'll take you out for a walk tonight."
When Zhang Zeyu heard this, he shouted that he wanted to go too. Wei Qingcheng glared at him, so he pouted and went to draw cards.
A Wu: "Ah, sir, are you giving it to us? But aren't you going to meet Miss Sun tonight? Don't you need to dress up? Speaking of which, Madam prepared a lot of clothes for you this morning, and Xiao Cui is still asking you to go back and try them on!"
A card was slapped on the table and pulled open.
Wei Qingcheng: "Look, you are so smart. I know what I am doing. You and Wang Yu can go. Dress up and don't embarrass me."
Awu walked away happily: "Okay, sir!"
"I want to go too! Qingcheng, please take me with you!" The little fat man looked at Wei Qingcheng pleadingly.
Wei Qingcheng cleaned up the card game on the table and fanned herself with a fan: "Uncle said that he will come to test your homework tonight!"
Zhang Zeyu supported his chubby cheeks with both hands, frowning: "Ah! The old man is so annoying!"
Before he could finish his words, Zhang's father shouted in the yard, "Rebellious son! Who do you say is the old man?"
During the Mid-Autumn Festival, the moon hangs high in the sky, appearing even brighter and clearer in the starless night sky.
In the market, acrobats challenged their limits with their flexible and agile bodies again and again, drawing rounds of applause; the aromas of fine wine, rice cakes, sugar-roasted chestnuts, and roasted sweet potatoes filled the air;
The Kongming lanterns carried people's good wishes and floated into the sky, shining brightly with the moonlight.
The streets were crowded with people, and adults were holding their children's hands tightly, fearing that they would be lost in the blink of an eye. A handsome man was pushed by the crowd, his steps were disordered, and he held the veil on his head with one hand. His sleeves slipped down, and his snow-white wrists were exposed in Xie Jingyu's eyes.
She couldn't take care of the whole thing, and she leaned forward into Xie Jingyu's arms. The autumn wind blew over her, blowing up the white gauze on the veil of the person in her arms. Her bright red lips looked particularly tender.
Xie Jingyu's heart was beating violently, and sweat broke out on his back. He was afraid that the person in his arms would hear his heartbeat, so he held his arms loosely.
I was afraid that someone would fall, and I was also afraid of offending the beauty in my arms.
"I'm sorry, sir!" The person in his arms said in a panic, and his slightly soft palm supported Xie Jingyu.
But in an instant, the treasure was gone from his arms. "What a pity," Xie Jingyu thought.
After Wei Qingcheng stood still, he realized that the person he had just bumped into was Xie Jingyu. He was about to kneel down, but then he remembered that this person had not allowed him to kneel before.
Besides, there are too many people on the street now. It would be bad to scare passers-by.
He simply placed his right hand over his left hand and bowed solemnly to show his respect: "Your Majesty, how are you?"
After all, he is just an ordinary citizen and he must observe proper etiquette and must not offend the royal family, otherwise they will have no chance of doing business.
"Yeah," Xie Jingyu nodded, then walked to the willow tree by the lake and said, "Follow me."
Xie Jingyu looked at the white figure in front of him and said, "I have something to ask Master Wei Er."
"Your Majesty speaks frankly, Qingcheng will tell you everything she knows."
Xie Jingyu clenched his fists, sweat growing in the cracks of his palms, just like his own mood: "If I get married, is there anyone willing to marry me?"
Wei Qingcheng was puzzled. Why did she ask him such a thing? But she answered honestly. Her red lips parted slightly under the white gauze of her veil, and a smile appeared faintly on her lips.
"Of course there are people who are willing. Not to mention women, even the men in Bianjing City admire the prince. The prince's military exploits are worthy of everyone's admiration. How can a beauty not love a hero?"
After saying a lot and taking pictures of a lot of horses, Wei Qingcheng felt that his business would be stable in the future.
Xie Jingyu loosened his palm, but his eyes were fixed on Wei Qingcheng, as if he was judging how credible the words of the person in front of him were.
Wei Qingcheng looked back with a determined look and felt that her face was about to break from laughing.
"The weather is cold, so you should wear more clothes." The man spoke with some joy as he took off his black fur cloak and put it on Wei Qingcheng.
"Your Highness! This is not appropriate," Wei Qingcheng refused.
The man did not say anything, but just lowered his head slightly and tied the straps of his cloak. The veil was taken off and the hood on the cloak was put on his head. The furry touch made Wei Qingcheng feel much warmer.
"This way, you won't get cold, and you won't be easily blown away by the wind."
Wei Qingcheng pinched her wrist in her cloak. Her previously eloquent mouth now didn’t know what to say, but she felt warm in her body and heart.
He hummed softly.
"Your guard is not here, I will take you back to the mansion."
The two of them walked back home under the moonlight. Wei Qingcheng tried to find topics to make the atmosphere less awkward.
"The weather has been changeable recently. It was very hot at noon, but now it's cold. I didn't think about this layer. I wore less when I went out."
Xie Jingyu: “Yeah.”
Wei Qingcheng felt like she was about to dig her toes into the ground. What was she saying? It was so embarrassing. No one was paying any attention to her.
"Ahem, why didn't the prince bring any guards today?"
The man said something that was blown away by the wind and heard only by empty ears.
Wei Qingcheng continued to ask: "Prince, can you say it again? I didn't hear it clearly."
The cold wind around me was blocked, and heat came from the side of my face: "I have some private matters today, so it's inconvenient to bring him."
It turned out that Xie Jingyu was leaning sideways and answering him.
Wei Qingcheng stuttered a little: "Oh, I, I understand."
All the way in silence
Soon they reached the door, and Wei Qingcheng breathed a sigh of relief: "My Lord, I'm here. It's getting late, you should go back soon!"
The man looked at him deeply and said, "Yeah." He turned around and disappeared at the end of the street...
Wei Qingcheng hung her cloak on the crossbar, kicked off her shoes, and fell on the soft bed.
"Huh~ Today was really weird. I fell into someone's arms while visiting a lantern festival. He gave me his cloak. I wonder if I'll be cold on the way back."
After resting on the bed for a while, I heard Awu enter the yard and said outside the door: "Master, Wang Yu asked me to ask for leave from you. He has something to do tonight and may come back late. I found other guards to guard the gate for you."
Wei Qingcheng touched her wrist in the candlelight, thinking that the two had already met: "Got it, go get some water!"
Steaming water vapor lingered in the wooden barrel. A Wu hung the clean nightgown on the curtain and said through the curtain: "Master, you didn't go to see Miss Sun tonight. Madam will scold you tomorrow."
Wei Qingcheng picked up a rose petal with her fingers and said, "Just tell me, she is my mother, how can I block her mouth?"
A Wu curled his lips and said, "Master, that's not what I meant. You will have to get married sooner or later. The ladies that Madam has chosen for you are all top-notch ladies. Please take a look at them!"
Wei Qingcheng poured the hot water over herself:
"You are a spy,"
Awu: "Ah, Master, what are you talking about?
( ○ Д ○)
Wei Qingcheng: "Then you keep speaking to others."
Awu was suddenly extremely panicked. His loyalty was evident to all. It’s all my own fault! It seems that I have no choice but to use my trump card.
"Master, I won't dare to do that anymore. I won't talk nonsense anymore. I'll make you a whole plate of your favorite thousand-layer lotus crisps tomorrow!!"
Wei Qingcheng made a scissors gesture behind her and said, "Two plates, if it's less, we won't talk anymore."
Awu: "I understand, Master."
At this time, in the palace——
The old eunuch who had always been trusted by the emperor knelt on the ground and trembled.
The emperor was furious, and the soup cooked by his favorite concubine Ying spilled all over the floor, with the bowl broken into pieces beside the table and chairs.
"How can this be possible? How dare this rebellious son threaten me? Has he lost his mind?"
"Your Majesty, I also said to Prince Xuan, said--" The eunuch stopped talking halfway, looking at the emperor's horrible expression, he dared not say any more.
The emperor shook the sleeves of his dragon robe and said, "What did you say? I want to see how tough he is."
The old eunuch trembled: "Tell Prince Xuan that he actually remembers his childhood."
The emperor paused with his fingers pinching his sleeve, murderous intent gradually appeared on his face. After thinking for a moment, he returned to his usual elegant demeanor.
He returned to the dragon chair with a smile and said, "It's just a marriage. Jingyu is really something. If he likes the girl from the Wei family, he should just say it directly. How can I not agree to it? Why is he beating around the bush?"
The old eunuch had been with the emperor for most of his life and had become almost shrewd. He had long been accustomed to the emperor's quick changes in expression. He hurriedly stood up to help the emperor spread out paper and grind ink.
The emperor was writing on the exquisite cloth. As the old eunuch read on, he remembered Xie Jingyu's instructions, which he had forgotten just now due to fear.
He whispered carefully in the emperor's ear: "Your Majesty, the prince said that you only need to issue an edict to form a marriage alliance between Prince Xuan and the Xie family."
"Rebellious son! He is teaching me how to do things? You little dog slave, you remember everything he said so clearly!!"
The old eunuch was kicked to the ground by the emperor. He endured the pain in his joints, climbed up and knelt on the ground: "Your Majesty, I have no second thoughts. I just told you the original words. I am afraid that if I make a mistake in one word, it will ruin the father-son relationship between you and the prince!"
The emperor rubbed the imperial edict whose content did not match Xie Jingyu's wishes: "Father-son relationship? Ha, I think he is now lawless and has no regard for me, his father!"
Seeing that the emperor had put aside his suspicion of him, the old eunuch's eyes lit up and he continued, "Your Majesty, the prince said that he wanted the imperial edict just for your blessing. His sweetheart is timid, and he wants to express his feelings himself, and he doesn't want her to be scared away."
The emperor was very satisfied with the words, and began the performance of the deep love between father and son again. He threw the imperial edict in his hand on the old eunuch's head.
"Okay, okay, why didn't you say it earlier, you little dog slave, you didn't finish your words."
The old eunuch continued to reply, slapping his own face: "Yes, Your Majesty! It is my fault, I deserve to be beaten!"
Early the next morning, Wei Qingcheng was pulled out of bed by Awu and hurriedly washed and changed clothes.
I knelt in the yard with sleepy eyes, and heard the words "Xie Wei's marriage" in a daze. My heart skipped a beat.
Among all the princes, only the Sixth Prince and Xie Jingyu are of the right age.
