Chapter 11 A False Alarm

As darkness fell, Zhou Sui took the last bus to the village entrance. When she got off, she was carrying a lot of bags and had a faint smile on her face.

As soon as she stepped into the village, she heard several middle-aged women chatting together. Their voices were loud, and Zhou Sui could hear them clearly.

"You saw that car that came today, right? Look at that shiny black car, it must have cost a lot of money."

"Definitely, those people in the car are all rich."

"I glanced at the person sitting inside as I passed by. Their hair looked like it had been permed, and they were wearing sparkly earrings that I had never seen before."

Zhou Sui had been hurrying home, but when she heard this, her heart skipped a beat, and she slowed down.

"Hey, do you know whose house they're looking for?"

"I don't know. I didn't go to see it. I just heard that it went towards the bamboo forest and left the village after a short while."

"I don't think they're relatives. Maybe they just took the wrong turn."

"Yes, you're right."

"Oh, isn't that Zhou family girl?" An old lady looked up and saw Zhou Sui. "Sui Sui, what nice things did you buy? So many things."

Several older women looked over curiously, but because it was getting late, they didn't notice that Zhou Sui's face was pale.

Zhou Sui didn't even have time to reply, and ran home with her lips tightly pursed.

"Hey, didn't this kid hear her when she spoke to him?"

"Your voice is too loud, you scared people away, haha."

The older women's teasing voices were right behind her, but Zhou Sui's heart was like a raging storm.

What they were saying was all too familiar to Zhou Sui.

A gleaming black car, a woman with permed hair and sparkly earrings, by the bamboo grove—it's clear her biological parents have come looking for her!

That's how it was in their past life. They came once, went around in circles, but didn't enter the Zhou family. They only entered the Zhou family on their second trip.

But, but!

Zhou Sui carried things in her hands, took bigger and bigger steps, and her breathing became rapid. She opened her mouth, and cold air rushed into her chest from her throat, making her throat dry and uncomfortable.

But they clearly arrived after the New Year in their previous life, so why did they arrive several months earlier this year?

Zhou Sui's mind was in complete chaos; she even suspected that her memory was disordered.

She couldn't wait to run home and ask Li Qiuju if anyone had come to her house today.

When Zhou Sui finally ran home, she found the gate locked and the inside pitch black.

Her legs went weak, and she leaned against the door, dropping the things she was carrying to the ground.

Zhou Sui pounded on the courtyard gate, her voice tense and trembling, "Mom, Mom."

The only responses she received were the chirping of insects and birds by the roadside.

Just then, the gate to the neighboring courtyard suddenly opened, and Grandma Zhou, who had come upon hearing the noise, came out. "Sui Sui, you're back."

"Your mother—" Old Mrs. Zhou exclaimed in surprise, "Child, what's wrong with you?"

When Grandma Zhou got closer, she noticed that Zhou Sui looked flustered and had red eyes.

"Grandma, where is my mother?" Zhou Sui grabbed Grandma Zhou's hand as if it were a lifeline.

“Your eldest uncle sent someone to say that your maternal grandmother fell and it sounds quite serious. Your mother is worried and is going back to check on her.”

Hearing this, Zhou Sui finally breathed a sigh of relief. It was a false alarm; it seemed she had been worrying unnecessarily.

"You silly child, you still haven't told me what happened."

"He left early this morning and is only now coming back. If it weren't for the fact that his voice sounded like yours, I would have asked your second uncle and the others to go out and look for him." Old Mrs. Zhou said, looking the person up and down.

"Grandma, it's nothing, I just thought it was strange that the door was locked." Zhou Sui's attention was drawn to another sentence, "Are Uncle and Aunt back?"

The second son, Zhou Dawu, and his family went to his mother-in-law's house to celebrate her birthday. Because it was far away, they didn't return for four days.

"Yes, they've all come back."

"What are all these bags and packages you're carrying?" Old Mrs. Zhou glanced at the plastic bags scattered on the ground; there were several of them.

Zhou Sui acted first and informed her family later; she had already bought the goods wholesale before her family even agreed.

Just as I was thinking about how to explain it to the old lady, thankfully, Grandma Zhou didn't ask any further questions. "Your mother left the key. Put your things inside and go eat first."

Zhou Sui responded and, with the help of Grandma Zhou, put the things into the room. Then the grandmother and granddaughter went to the neighboring courtyard.

As soon as she entered the gate, she heard her second aunt Zhou Cui's cheerful voice, "Da Wu, what are you still sitting there for? Mom is going out for a while. Go and see what's going on. Is it Sui Yatou who's back?"

"Okay, I'll go take a look." Zhou Dawu had barely finished speaking when the door opened.

Grandma Zhou led Zhou Sui in, and under the dim light, all four people in the room looked over.

As familiar faces reappeared, Zhou Sui's hands unconsciously clenched into fists with excitement.

Especially after Zhou Dawu spoke, "Speak of the devil, and he appears! Our great Cao Cao and little Cao Cao, please take a seat, it's time for dinner."

The two brothers, Zhou Dawu and Zhou Dayong, have completely different personalities; the latter is mature, while the former still retains some childlike qualities.

Although he sometimes speaks incoherently, he can make people happy, and Zhou Sui likes this second uncle very much.

A lump formed in Zhou Sui's nose, but she blinked and forced herself to hold it in.

Before sitting down, she called out to everyone in turn, "Second Uncle, Second Aunt, Eldest Brother, Yu'er."

This action caused the group to look at each other in bewilderment. "What's going on?" Zhang Cui even stopped serving the rice.

"Let me call you all." Zhou Sui smiled and took the rice spoon from Zhang Cui's hand. "Second Aunt, please sit down, I'll do it."

"Oh, this child seems to have changed after just a few days." Zhang Cui found it a bit strange. Normally, Zhou Sui would never call out to people so clearly, and she would always tuck her head into her neck when there were many people around.

"What kind of look is that? Aren't they all the same?" Zhou Dawu couldn't see anything different about his niece.

Zhang Cui glared at him, and Zhou Dawu, who was in the early stages of being henpecked, chuckled and remained silent.

But after the meal, Zhou Dawu agreed with his wife's words, "Sui Sui seems a little different. She talked more today than she used to in a whole week."

"The little girl probably went to the city for a stroll today and was happy, so she's been talking a lot," Zhang Cui guessed.

Zhou Sui was indeed happy. She was lucky to have gone to the wholesale market this time. When she arrived, a shop owner was transferring his store and was selling all the clothes at low prices.

The style of the clothes wasn't very fashionable, so Zhou Sui used this to negotiate a lower price, bringing it close to the factory's selling price.

After returning to her room, Zhou Sui didn't bother to wash up. She dumped all the bags of clothes onto the bed and started cutting loose threads and sorting them.

These clothes, bought at low prices, will be the first step on her road to making money!
