Zhou Sui's eyes were fixed on the figure opposite her, her hands hanging at her sides clenched into fists so tightly that she didn't even feel her nails digging into her flesh.
Cheng Yue!
She was the adopted daughter of her biological parents and lived a life of pampering and indulgence in the Cheng family. She was truly a little princess who was raised in luxury from childhood.
With her innocent, rabbit-like face, only Zhou Sui knew what kind of cunning thoughts were hidden beneath that pure and innocent exterior.
It was her in my past life that made me feel like an ugly duckling, returning to the swan's nest, still too ashamed to even lift my head.
Because Cheng Yue told Zhou Sui more than once that she was the beloved daughter of Cheng's parents, and that she only brought Zhou Sui back out of guilt.
Her rustic appearance and timid personality showed no trace of what one would expect from a member of the Cheng family.
Recalling that period of grievance, Zhou Sui's heart was in turmoil.
It wasn't until two nonchalant-looking boys got off the car and started talking to the girl that Zhou Sui snapped out of her reverie.
Cheng Yue had never been to this small county town in her previous life, so why was she here now?
Zhou Sui was full of doubts. After watching Cheng Yue walk away with the two carefree boys, she thought for a while and then got out of the car and followed them.
"Hey, young lady, the bus is about to leave. Aren't you going?" The driver was just about to get on the bus when he passed Zhou Sui.
"I'm not going any further." Afraid of losing her if she was even a step too slow, Zhou Sui jogged over and finally spotted Cheng Yue across the street.
Zhou Sui hurriedly chased after her, but kept a little distance from Cheng Yue.
One of the boys said, "Little girl, do your parents know you're here?"
Cheng Yue shook her head.
"Did you bring any money?" another boy asked.
Cheng Yue shook her head again. "If you don't have money, can you still give me directions?" Cheng Yue asked this question cautiously.
"Of course." The two boys exchanged a glance, their eyes conveying a lewd message they both understood. "Come on, little sister, let me show you a shortcut."
As they spoke, they turned and led Cheng Yue into a small alley.
Cheng Yue turned her head to look at the alley. Everywhere she looked, there were houses, children playing, and adults scolding her.
What she didn't know was that only the part of the alley that you could see at a glance was inhabited; once you turned the corner, you couldn't see the rest of the alley. It was a desolate place because the houses were old and in danger of collapsing, and the people inside had already moved away.
"Come on, little sister, we brothers have things to do later. We'll get you there and then we'll have to go about our own business." One of the boys urged Cheng Yue when she stopped.
Cheng Yue hesitated, unsure whether she should step inside, when a boy impatiently pushed her.
"Are you leaving or not? If you don't leave, we're not going to take care of you anymore."
The fierce tone made Cheng Yue shrink back, glancing timidly at the boy. "No~"
She wanted to say she wasn't going, but the impatient boy, perhaps sensing her thoughts, actually reached out to her.
At the crucial moment, a hand suddenly appeared out of nowhere and pulled Cheng Yue away before the boy's hand could touch her.
Zhou Sui's face was very ugly. These two boys were obviously not good people; their eyes were incredibly lewd. Cheng Yue wasn't stupid; how could she believe what they said?
She could have just stood by and watched, but she couldn't get past her conscience.
As a woman herself, she knew all too well what Cheng Yue would face next. Although she disliked Cheng Yue, she didn't deserve such a fate.
"Sister?!" Cheng Yue's eyes lit up when she saw Zhou Sui, and she exclaimed excitedly, even giving Zhou Sui a big hug.
The fluffy head rubbed against Zhou Sui's neck and said affectionately, "Sister, I've finally found you."
elder sister?
In her past life, Cheng Yue also called her that, but she always did it in a very formal and serious way, never with such an intimate tone.
Moreover, strictly speaking, this is their first meeting. Why is Cheng Yue acting like this? Are the two of them very familiar with each other?
Zhou Sui struggled to pull her off him, while the two boys next to him shouted menacingly, "Hey, who are you?"
Before Zhou Sui could speak, Cheng Yue, who had been timid and cowardly just moments before, put her hands on her hips and said fiercely, "Didn't you hear me call her 'sister'?"
"I don't need you to lead the way anymore. I've found my sister. You can leave now."
The two boys' eyes lingered on Zhou Sui. "They really are sisters, each one more beautiful than the other."
"Sister, right? We've worked hard to guide your sister, so you should at least thank us."
As the boy spoke, he reached out and rubbed his fingers together, as if he wanted to scare the girl and extort some money from her.
"Sister, they had a tough time. They talked to me the whole way and said that if they wanted to find you, they would have to walk a very, very long way, for two days."
"I should be the one expressing my gratitude, but I don't have any money." Cheng Yue looked at Zhou Sui apologetically, her face full of expectation. "Could you lend me some?"
This was the first thing Zhou Sui had said to Cheng Yue since they met: "Cheng Yue, are you out of your mind?"
It's one thing to be able to tell good from bad, but don't you realize they're blatantly asking for money?
Cheng Yue reached out and touched her ear, her head slowly drooping, her voice low, "I fell down the stairs and slept for a long time. Some guy called a doctor said my brain was damaged."
Before Zhou Sui could process what she was saying, Cheng Yue suddenly looked up again, clutching her head with both hands, "But my head is still perfectly fine on my neck, it's not broken."
