"Mom and Dad, what brings you here?"
Zhou Sui was excited because she saw Zhou Dayong and Li Qiuju.
She was flustered because both families had arrived at the same time, something she had been trying to avoid.
"Isn't the store closed today?"
“Your second aunt came to the city to buy clothes, so we came with her and also to see you.” Zhou Sui usually goes home once a week, but last week she didn’t have time to go back because she was busy with Zhou Peng’s lunchbox business.
Li Qiuju brought her daughter a lot of food during her day off; it was all homemade and couldn't be bought outside.
Without a second thought, Zhou Sui immediately took the people to her place, her only thought being to prevent them from meeting the Cheng family.
But what you think about is often what you get. "Sui Sui, are these your mom and dad?"
Cheng Song's voice rang out from behind, and Zhou Sui felt a tremor in her heart; it was too late.
Zhou Dayong and Li Qiuju looked behind Zhou Sui and were puzzled when they saw Cheng Song, but when they saw Ding Shuya next to Cheng Song, they were so shocked that they couldn't speak for a long time.
The reason is simple: Zhou Sui and Ding Shuya look very alike.
Zhou Sui pressed her tongue against her lower jaw; what was bound to happen had finally arrived.
There's a small private room at the very back of the milk tea shop, which Zhou Sui uses as a small office. Now, that small room is full of people.
Zhou Dayong, Li Qiuju, and Zhou Sui sat to one side, while the Cheng family of four sat opposite them.
Ding Shuya's gaze remained fixed on Zhou Sui, and she choked up as soon as she spoke, "Sui Sui, my child." She tried to reach out and touch Zhou Sui, but she was avoided.
Zhou Dayong and Li Qiuju looked at the people opposite them with unease. Just by looking at their clothes and demeanor, they could tell that Sui Sui's biological parents came from a very well-off family.
Looking at myself, I'm wearing clothes from several years ago, and my hands are covered in calluses and scars. Even now, when I try my best to stand up straight, I still feel inferior.
Zhou Sui noticed their unease and took the initiative to say, "Mom and Dad, I'm doing very well at home and don't want to go anywhere."
Since we've run into each other, let's just be frank.
"Sui Sui, don't be nervous, we're not here to take you away," Cheng Song quickly explained. He knew that he couldn't take any forceful measures at this time, as the child was very resistant to them, so he could only take it one step at a time.
“We have never given up looking for you for the past twenty years. Now that we have finally found you, how could we, as parents, not come to see our child?”
Cheng Song's voice was a little hoarse, and Ding Shuya had already lowered her head to wipe away her tears.
As parents themselves, Zhou Dayong and Li Qiuju were inevitably moved. "Don't worry, Suisui has been doing quite well these past few years."
"Look at her now, she's grown into a beautiful young woman, smart and capable."
The meeting between the two families was not as tense as expected. As soon as Zhou Dayong started talking about Zhou Sui's past, the atmosphere changed, and the whole room was filled with the scent of memories.
Cheng Song and Ding Shuya listened, occasionally asking a question, their expressions constantly changing.
After talking for a while, Cheng Song gently nudged his wife, and the two of them stood up, bowed to Zhou Dayong and Li Qiuju, and said sincerely.
"Sui Sui is so lucky to have such wonderful parents like you. Thank you for all the hard work you've done over the years."
Zhou Dayong wanted to lend a helping hand, but he felt he couldn't accept such a grand gesture.
But seeing the expensive clothes, he couldn't bring himself to reach out, so he turned his body slightly to the side and said, "Sui Sui is our own daughter, there's no such thing as hardship for her."
"Yes, she's our own child, it's not hard for us. Besides, Sui Sui is the most well-behaved and worry-free child in the family, we don't feel tired at all."
Li Qiuju added a sentence, then tightly grasped Zhou Sui's hand, feeling a mix of emotions.
On one hand, they were happy that Zhou Sui's biological parents had found her and explained that the child had been stolen, which proved that Zhou Sui had not been abandoned.
On the other hand, she was worried that the Cheng family's good conditions might lead them to take her daughter away. Although Zhou Sui had the Cheng family's blood in her veins, she had raised her for twenty years, and she was just like the child she had given birth to.
Zhou Sui held Li Qiuju's arm tightly, silently telling her her choice.
Seeing Zhou Sui's actions, Ding Shuya felt a pang of sadness; the child really wasn't close to them at all.
After talking for a while, Cheng Song suggested inviting Zhou Dayong and Li Qiuju to dinner to express his gratitude, but Zhou Sui declined directly.
"We've already met, so there's no need for a meal. We haven't seen each other for several days, and we have things to talk about."
She subtly distanced herself from the Cheng family in her words, how could Cheng Song not understand?
"Alright, it was a bit rushed today. We'll visit you in person another day when you two have more time."
Upon hearing his words, Zhou Sui frowned. It seemed the Cheng family hadn't given up. She looked at Cheng Song with a cold expression, her meaning quite clear, but Cheng Song chose to ignore it.
"I don't want to go back, I want to stay with my sister." When she called out to leave, Cheng Yue grabbed Zhou Sui's arm and refused to let go.
"Sister, please let me stay with you. I'll help you with chores. I can do a lot of work and I definitely won't slack off." Cheng Yue clung to Zhou Sui's arm and pleaded, hoping Zhou Sui would soften her heart and let her stay.
