"You and Sui Sui got together?" Zhao Wenxiu asked her son with a mischievous look.
Song Qi'an shook his head, and Zhao Wenxiu said with some disappointment, "Didn't I see that you gave away that bracelet?"
Was that a delivery? Let's not go into the details. Song Qi'an helped Zhao Wenxiu walk into the courtyard.
"Didn't you say you were going to make something delicious? Let me see what delicious food you've prepared."
Zhao Wenxiu knew perfectly well that her son was deliberately changing the subject. She also knew that her son was getting older and there were some things she shouldn't pry into.
Zhou Sui stepped on the gas and arrived at the gate of the Zhou family's house. Zhou Dayong had built the house, and Zhou Dawu had also worked on it.
The two brothers pooled their money and hired workers to pave the muddy road in front of their house into a cement road. They also bought adjacent land and widened the road considerably.
It can be said that as long as you turn into the area from the main road, that area belongs to the Zhou family.
The front gate was open, and Zhou Sui drove straight in, pulling the car into the yard. Besides Zhou Dayong's black sedan, there was also a minivan in the yard.
That car belongs to Li Qiuju's brother, Li Fuyou. The Zhou family's business has taken off in the last two years.
Li Fuyou and Zhao Xiaohua tried every trick in the book to extort money from the Zhou family, whether it was money or their lives, but the Zhou family refused them without hesitation.
After failing to gain favor with the Zhou family several times, the Li family was at their wits' end. Even Old Man Li, who never bowed down to Li Qiuju, came to the Zhou family, hoping that his daughter and son-in-law would help their son.
She was living an ordinary life, which she valued most, while her daughter, whom she looked down upon the most, was living a very good life. How could this make Old Lady Li feel at peace?
Even after she yielded, the Zhou family still wouldn't budge. In the end, Li Fuyou and his wife stopped asking for money and started borrowing it instead.
Seeing others make money in business, they want to follow suit.
But in Zhou Sui's opinion, these two people were really not cut out to make big money; how could they possibly succeed in business if they were so calculating?
Li Qiuju had been ruthless all this time, but seeing her younger brother and sister-in-law so humbly borrowing money for her, she finally couldn't hold back anymore, after all, blood is thicker than water.
She may be soft-hearted, but she didn't skip any of the proper procedures for lending money.
Even the money lent out was agreed upon with Zhou Dayong beforehand. It wasn't much, just enough for the couple to run a small business. When the money was given out, Li Fuyou and Zhao Xiaohua wrote an IOU and pressed their fingerprints on it.
It was precisely because of this loaned money that the Li family finally calmed down.
Zhou Sui heard that the two people had opened a barbershop in town, and that Zhao Xiaohua had even gone to another place to learn how to perm and dye hair.
As for how well the barbershop was doing, Zhou Sui had no idea.
"Sui Sui is back." Zhou Sui had just stepped into the hall when she saw Li Fuyou, Zhao Xiaohua, and Li Baolai sitting on the sofa.
Li Baolai has grown taller and is now as tall as her. Although she is not as chubby as she was when she was a child, her face is still chubby.
Zhou Sui greeted them politely, "Uncle, Aunt, Cousin Bao Lai."
Zhao Xiaohua quickly patted her son's back, "Baolai, quickly call her sister, this is your sister Suisui, do you remember her?"
Li Baolai remembered her all too well; in his heart, this older sister was like a goddess or a demon.
"Sister." Li Baolai called out obediently, and Zhou Sui nodded to him.
Zhou Sui didn't know what they had talked about before, but seeing that her parents were there, she went upstairs first.
Her room was on the third floor; once you went upstairs and turned left, the entire area was her room.
Zhou Dayong put a lot of thought into building this house, imitating the style of big cities by adding bathrooms and walk-in closets.
So one of Zhou Sui's rooms is almost half the size of the apartment she currently lives in in the city.
After placing the bag on the shelf, Zhou Sui opened one of the wardrobe doors, where a row of clothes had been hanging for who knows how long.
Without even thinking, it must have been sent by her second aunt, Zhang Cui. Over the years, Zhou Sui has never worried about anything except her own personal clothes; she has more clothes than she can wear.
With air conditioning installed at home, Zhou Sui changed into a sweater and then grabbed a lightweight down jacket. If she needed to go out, she could just put on the down jacket and be done with it.
I originally wanted to go downstairs to say hello and then go next door to find Zhou Yu and the others, but when I went downstairs and saw...
"Are your uncles gone?" Li Qiuju was tidying up the fruit peels on the coffee table.
"Yes, he just left. Your dad went out to lock the door."
Since no cars were coming or going from the house, Zhou Dayong closed the main gate, leaving a small door for people to enter and exit.
Zhou Sui went over to help tidy up, but Li Qiuju quickly stopped her, saying, "You can just rest over there, don't make your hands rough."
Because she rarely does housework, Zhou Sui's hands are now fair and tender. When she comes home, Li Qiuju doesn't let her do any housework, for fear of roughening her hands.
"Oh my god, I'm not going to farm. How much housework can I do?"
Upon hearing this, Zhou Sui joined Li Qiuju in helping to tidy up.
Judging from the quantity of fruit peels, Zhou Sui guessed that Li Fuyou and his group had been there for quite some time.
As soon as she looked up, Zhou Sui noticed the worry on Li Qiuju's face.
"Mom, what brings Uncle and the others here?" Zhou Sui guessed that her worries were mostly related to the Li family.
Li Qiuju, still holding a rag in her hand, sighed and sat down on the sofa.
"It's all because of your grandmother's illness."
Zhou Sui had heard a bit about this. The strong-willed old lady Li was diagnosed with a leg ailment at the end of last year.
Now my legs have become bowlegs and I can't straighten them anymore, and my back is slowly turning hunched over as well.
This is not a sudden occurrence, but rather the result of years of accumulated problems.
Women of their generation had to go back to work in the fields shortly after giving birth, carrying loads several times their own weight on their backs. Over time, this led to their current situation.
