Chapter 158 The Conspicuous Bracelet

"This bracelet?" Seeing her mother's gaze fixed on the bracelet, Zhou Sui awkwardly withdrew her hand.

She tried to take off the bracelet while she was changing clothes upstairs, but to no avail. She doesn't know what's wrong with the bracelet; it's just stuck and she can't take it off.

Later, Zhou Sui had no choice but to choose a dress with long sleeves and a fitted cuff to cover the bracelet, since it was made of gold and gemstones and was quite conspicuous.

She was careful while packing her things, but she didn't expect that she would be caught off guard while pouring water and give herself away.

"Let Mom see." Zhou Sui's hand was halfway in when Li Qiuju stopped her.

Zhou Sui had no choice but to let her see it, pondering how to explain the origin of the bracelet. If she told the truth, it might cause people to overthink things.

"What are you looking at?" Zhou Dayong asked as soon as he came in, seeing his wife holding their daughter's hand.

"Dayong, come and take a look at Suisui's bracelet," Li Qiuju called out to her husband.

Zhou Dayong went over to take a look and exclaimed in surprise, "Such a big bracelet!"

"But this bracelet looks really nice."

“We visited all the gold shops in the city last time, and we never saw such a beautiful bracelet.”

Zhou Dayong was referring to the time at the beginning of the year when his family went to the city to buy jewelry. He was thinking of getting a complete set for his wife and daughter, including necklaces, bracelets, and earrings.

Li Qiuju was fine; she bought everything. But when she got to Zhou Sui's place, she looked at many styles, both gold and jade, but none of them were particularly satisfactory. In the end, she only chose a jade pendant for her daughter.

Even this week, Dayong wasn't very satisfied. He didn't usually have many expenses, and he saved the money to buy jewelry for the women in his family.

At the time, Zhou Sui even tried to persuade him, "Dad, if you can't buy a suitable one now, you can buy one next year."

She wasn't particularly fond of these gold, silver, and jade artifacts, but she would regularly acquire more; they were still essential as decorations.

Zhou Dayong looked at the bracelet on his daughter's wrist and clicked his tongue, saying, "Why didn't you tell Dad you wanted to buy a bracelet? I couldn't find you a satisfactory one last year."

Before Zhou Sui could speak, Li Qiuju said, "How do you know Sui Sui bought this? What if someone gave it to her?"

"Who would give away such an expensive bracelet?" Zhou Dayong didn't believe it.

The couple stared at Zhou Sui with wide eyes.

Under the watchful eyes of two pairs of people, Zhou Sui reluctantly withdrew her hand, adjusted her sleeve, and pretended to casually cover the bracelet.

Then, laughing it off, he said, "I just... I just happened to run into it and then I bought it."

The more vague the better. "Mom and Dad, I'm going to visit my second uncle."

As she spoke, Zhou Sui didn't even bother to drink water and dashed towards the door.

Li Qiuju chased after him, calling out, "Clothes, clothes, you child, why aren't you wearing any clothes? Be careful not to catch a cold."

As Zhou Sui ran, she said, "It's just a short walk, I won't catch a cold."

She dared not go back, otherwise she would have no answer if they pressed her for details.

A door opened between the two houses of the Zhou family, and Zhou Sui ran across it in the blink of an eye.

"Sui'er's here!" Grandma Zhou, wearing an apron, was picking vegetables at the kitchen door.

"Your younger siblings are all upstairs playing on that computer."

Zhou Dawu is a modern man; his home is fully equipped with all kinds of appliances, including a computer. Right now, he's upstairs playing games with his daughter and nephew.

"Go upstairs and play with them. I heard Ah Xu just arrived a little while ago, shouting and laughing. What are they playing?"

The old lady didn't understand what was so good about fiddling with that tin box, but then she heard her grandchildren making a racket upstairs.

"I'm not going, I'll help you pick some vegetables." Zhou Yu and Zhou Xu are such a handful, if she went up there her head would probably explode from all the noise.

Now both of them are freshmen. Zhou Xu has good grades and got into a good university, while Zhou Yu, although a bottom student, got lucky in the college entrance examination and barely made it into a university.

This made the Zhou family extremely happy. They had achieved great success in their careers and even produced two college graduates. It was truly remarkable.

It's no exaggeration to say that now Grandma Zhou walks with a swagger in the village, and people greet her all the way. It's never a bad thing to build a relationship with a family like that.

"You're just too quiet." Of Grandma Zhou's four grandchildren, the two older ones are both calm and sensible, while the two younger ones are both lively and mischievous.

She used to think that being calm and composed was good, but now that the child is too mature, Grandma Zhou feels it's not appropriate. Zhou Sui is alright, she still has the coquettishness of a young girl from time to time. Zhou Peng sometimes seems to be more composed than his father, Zhou Dawu.

"Huh, isn't my brother home?" Zhou Sui remembered that she hadn't seen Zhou Peng's car when she passed by the yard earlier.

Grandma Zhou smiled, and the wrinkles on her face smoothed out. Compared to two years ago, the old lady now looked much kinder.

"Your second aunt took your eldest brother out."

Hmm? Zhou Sui waited for the old lady to continue.

“Your second aunt met a friend in her business. He has a daughter who is about the same age as your older brother. So, your second aunt took her there.”

Grandma Zhou winked and gestured, and Zhou Sui understood: her older brother had been dragged off to a blind date.
