Chapter 30 Appearances (Part 1)

In the end, Zhou Sui managed to persuade the mother and daughter to calm down.

What I told Zhou Yu was, "Studying may not be your only way out, but it can give you another path."

Zhou Sui firmly believes that reading can truly broaden one's horizons and help one understand the world, so in her second life, she will buy books from time to time to fill the gaps in her knowledge.

When it came to Zhang Cui, she asked a question, "Second Aunt, do you want Xiaoyu to study, or do you want her to be successful?"

Zhang Cui felt that the two were the same; wasn't studying the right way to have a bright future?

Zhou Sui told her that the two are different, and there are many ways to be successful, including studying, working, and doing business.

However, studying doesn't guarantee success. Zhou Yu might end up with mediocre grades, but she is well-educated, knowledgeable, and able to distinguish right from wrong.

Zhang Cui was surprised. She looked at her daughter, who had her back to her, as if she was seriously considering the question.

Zhou Sui then asked, "Do you feel bad about spending this money on Xiaoyu's education?"

Before she could speak, Zhou Peng said, "Mom, let Xiaoyu go to school. I'll pay for her tuition and living expenses."

Zhou Peng has now found a job watching over a warehouse. Although the salary is not high, he is frugal and has few expenses, so supporting his younger sister's education shouldn't be a big problem.

“When did I say I wouldn’t let her study?” Zhang Cui shouted.

"What I mean is, no matter what score Xiaoyu gets, as long as she tries her best, that's enough. I won't ask anything of her."

"Sui Sui, is that what you mean?" Zhou Peng asked.

Zhou Sui was actually a little surprised that her older brother understood her meaning so quickly. "Yes, older brother is right."

Zhang Cui asked uncertainly, "You mean you'll pay to send Xiaoyu to school, and I can't care whether she gets the lowest or second-lowest score?"

If that's the case, why bother sending her to school? She'll be guaranteed to be last place, and nobody will even be competing with her.

"Second Aunt, it's not that we're ignoring it."

"It's like selling clothes. You want to sell more items to make money, but there's only one person on this street. You put a lot of effort into introducing the clothes to her and give her a discount, but in the end she just doesn't buy anything."

"If a sale doesn't go through, you're bound to feel bad. If someone then comes along and tells you that you don't know how to sell clothes, wouldn't you feel even worse, maybe even a little annoyed?"

"That's just how Xiaoyu is. She's done her best, and whatever she can learn is what she can learn. If you scold or beat her, it will only backfire."

Zhang Cui seemed to understand what Zhou Sui meant, "I don't know who she took after, her brain isn't sharp at all."

Although it sounded like an insult, the tone was much gentler.

As for when to go to school and what grade to attend, Zhou Sui didn't stay to discuss it with them.

She called Li Qiuju, and the two of them took a bus to town together.

With yesterday's foundation, Zhou Sui doesn't need to shout anything today; people from the factory will come over on their own.

He even brought his colleagues along, saying they wanted to try this new thing.

Having learned from yesterday's experience, Zhou Sui changed the ingredients and soup base she brought today, but it still couldn't keep up with the large number of people at noon.

Two hours later, most of the goods had been sold, and the streets were nearly deserted.

Zhou Sui took off her apron. "Mom, I'm going to check on the shop again. You stay here and watch the stall. I'll be back before the workers get off work this afternoon."

"Your second aunt will probably be here soon, then you'll have company."

"Go ahead," Li Qiuju waved to her daughter.

To save time, Zhou Sui took a ride there. The shops she looked at were all on this street. Although it wasn't the most central and bustling street in town, it wasn't bad either.

This road has many intersections, and places like schools, residential buildings, and department stores are not far apart. The only drawback is that it is relatively old.

Zhou Sui took out the piece of paper she had written down yesterday and went to the storefront she liked the most.

This storefront is located at a three-way intersection, so the foot traffic is naturally high, and the rent is the most expensive among the few she liked, at 300 yuan a month.

When Zhou Sui arrived, the previous tenants were moving their belongings. She inquired and the tenants said that the landlord would be coming over later.

Seeing them busy inside, Zhou Sui went out. When she came back a while later, she was carrying several bottles of water. She distributed them to the people inside, and they thanked her. One of the men, who looked like the boss, asked her something.

"Young lady, you want to rent this storefront?"

Zhou Sui nodded, and the tenant continued, "Young lady, I'm only telling you this because you're young and kind-hearted. Don't rent this shop. I've rented it for two years, and the rent has increased twice."

"That landlord is very troublesome. One minute this won't work, the next minute that is broken. He's caused trouble several times."

"I've never had a peaceful day here anyway, so you should think it over carefully."

"How's business here, brother?" Zhou Sui asked after chatting for a few minutes.

"Well, it's just so-so."

"I'm busy now, you wait here, the landlord should be here in about half an hour."

The man walked away, and Zhou Sui looked thoughtfully at the people busy inside. When she called to inquire yesterday, she clearly heard that the boss had made money and was now moving to the city.

As for the landlord's statement, it's unclear whether it's true or false.

While waiting for someone, Zhou Sui strolled around the storefront area. She hadn't looked closely yesterday and realized there were still vacant storefronts nearby.

There happened to be a house with its door half open, so Zhou Sui went over and asked, "Is anyone home?"

The windows inside were tightly closed. When Zhou Sui peeked inside, she saw dust flying everywhere, and her nose felt itchy. How long had it been since the door to this house had been opened?

"Who is it?" a voice came from inside.

Zhou Sui couldn't see what the person looked like, but the voice sounded familiar, though she couldn't quite place it.

"Feng'er, come out quickly, the dust is too thick." The person inside said as they came out.

Zhou Sui was thus able to see his appearance clearly.

"The owner of the jewelry store?"

"The little girl selling rings?"

No wonder she felt it was familiar but couldn't quite place it; the person inside was the gold shop owner she had met once before.

"Feng'er, come quickly." The gold shop owner called out, and Zhou Sui saw a tall woman walk out. That face had appeared in Zhou Sui's mind before.

"This is the little girl I bought my engagement ring from," the jewelry store owner said excitedly.

The woman called Feng'er looked at Zhou Sui and said, "What a pretty young girl. No wonder her family has such a beautiful ring."

"Little sister, do you have any other rings or jewelry at home?"

She seemed quite satisfied with the ring, but Zhou Sui felt a little embarrassed, as the ring wasn't even from her family.

Zhou Sui shook her head, and the woman showed a regretful expression, but then smiled again, "I'm content with this ring."
