Chapter 32 Luckily, I rented this house first.

Is that Feng'er?

Zhou Sui and Feng'er turned around at the same time and saw an old woman dressed in white and floral clothes walking over.

Feng'er looked for a while before remembering, "Oh dear, isn't that Aunt Zhao?"

"Yes, it's me."

“Your mom called me yesterday and said that your old house is going to be rented out, and that you should come over today.”

"I was wondering when you would come, but I didn't expect to run into you here."

It turned out that this person was the old neighbor Jin Wanlai had mentioned. Zhou Sui glanced at Aunt Zhao and was somewhat glad that she had met Feng'er earlier. If she had really met this old lady, the house would not have been easy to rent.

Because this old lady's eyes conveyed a message: I'm amazing!

“My tenants are moving out; the truck is full of their stuff.”

“I said this businessman is really stingy. He made so much money in my house, but he just won’t pay more rent.”

"It's good that he moved out. I can just find another place and charge the same rent."

Zhou Sui blinked, then froze.

This Aunt Zhao turned out to be the landlord she was originally waiting for. It seems the tenants inside weren't lying; the rent really does change every year.

"What? You've already rented it out?"

"How much did you pay for the rent? Feng'er, you don't know anything about these things, don't get scammed. The rent for houses on this street isn't cheap these days."

Aunt Zhao's exclamation was so loud that Zhou Sui had to come to her senses.

When she heard that Feng'er had rented out the house for 500 yuan a quarter, Aunt Zhao's face was so wrinkled that she almost squeezed all the wrinkles together.

"Five hundred yuan? You've really been scammed. My family pays three hundred a month now."

"If someone else comes to rent, I'd still be willing to pay 400, but you're offering 500 for a quarter of the rent?!"

Overwhelmed with excitement, Aunt Zhao opened her mouth wide, causing saliva to splatter out.

Feng'er took a step back, her expression indifferent. "Well, three hundred or five hundred is about the same. My family mainly depends on the person."

"Let me, an old lady, help you vet them. They might think you're an easy target because you're a young girl. You might get scammed without even realizing it."

Zhou Sui couldn't listen anymore. "Auntie, I'm the one who rented the house."

When she stood next to Feng'er, the old lady was stunned. She hadn't expected that the person renting the house would be such a young girl.

Feng'er laughed at herself, "Auntie, look who's lying to whom between us."

This doesn't seem like Zhou Sui could possibly deceive Feng'er.

Just then, Jin Wanlai came out carrying a wooden box.

Feng'er rushed over to open the car door for him, speaking to Zhou Sui as she walked.

"Little sister, we're leaving now. You can throw away everything in the house."

"Oh, Feng'er, you're leaving already? The house issue hasn't been sorted out yet." Aunt Zhao actually chased after her.

However, they didn't exchange more than a few words before Feng'er climbed into the passenger seat, rendering any words Zhao Da Niang uttered outside meaningless.

Feng'er wasn't affected by Aunt Zhao, which pleased Zhou Sui. She hummed a little tune and went for a stroll inside the house.

Cleaning the house is a huge undertaking. I don't have the time or the tools right now, so I plan to come back tomorrow to do it.

Just as Zhou Sui was about to lock the door, Aunt Zhao ran over again, looking at her with displeasure.

"Hey, if anyone asks you how much you rented it for, you can't say less than 350."

Zhou Sui disliked her commanding tone. "Why should I?"

“I’ve known this family for years. Don’t think you can fool Feng’er now. I’m going to call her mother later and make sure she can’t rent this house. You believe me?”

Aunt Zhao arrogantly raised her chin, thinking that Zhou Sui would be afraid after hearing these words.

Zhou Sui chuckled and couldn't help rolling her eyes at her. "Don't wait any longer, go make this call now."

If people cared about that little bit of money, they wouldn't have left the house empty for five or six years. Feng'er isn't the kind of person who goes back on her word. Besides, she has a contract in hand. How can you just decide not to rent it out?

Zhou Sui closed and locked the door and left, while Aunt Zhao was still jumping up and down behind her.

"You just wait. Do you really think I wouldn't dare? I'll call the person who rents my place as soon as they arrive and see what they can do to be so arrogant."

The person she was referring to was Zhou Sui; it must have been the former tenant who told her.

That's why Aunt Zhao insisted on Zhou Sui's price of 350; otherwise, how could she raise the price herself?

"Let's wait patiently," Zhou Sui said, stuffing the keys into her pocket and walking briskly to the bus stop.

In the following days, Zhou Sui and Li Qiuju spent their time cleaning up the town, except for the time they spent setting up their stall at noon and in the afternoon.

It took a whole day just to clean up the mess inside; it was so dirty that the two of them were covered in dust and dirt.

Just as I was about to throw the things out, I ran into Aunt Zhao from next door. When she saw that there were clothes and cardboard boxes in the bag, she wanted to rummage through them.

Zhou Sui stopped her. It was so hard to put it together, and if she took it out again, she would have to put it together all over again.

Seeing Zhou Sui's bad tone, Li Qiuju couldn't help but say to her daughter, "Sui Sui, let her take it if she wants, just put it back for us."

"Mom, it was so hard to get this stuff in. Taking it out was easy, but putting it back in was really difficult."

"If she can't get into it, we'll have to figure it out ourselves in the end. I don't want to create trouble for myself. Wouldn't it be better to use that time to sit down and take a break?"

Li Qiuju thought about it and realized that made sense. "Mom used to think that doing more was no big deal, but now that you say it, why should we do things that have nothing to do with us?"

"Mom, you finally understand."

The mother and daughter smiled at each other. Under Zhou Sui's intentional or unintentional influence, Li Qiuju was slowly changing.

It took three days to clean the storefront and the back yard thoroughly. During this time, Grandma Zhou and Zhang Cui came to help.

The woman was meticulous in her work; she even flushed the toilet three or four times and wiped the glass until it shone brightly.

Zhou Dayong, who was forced to stay home to recuperate, couldn't sit still while everyone was busy. So, while everyone else was in town cleaning up, he went to the brick factory.

Firstly, she wanted to quit her job, and secondly, she wanted to retrieve her bedding and belongings.

Li Qiuju was initially a little worried, but seeing that he was in good spirits, she didn't say anything.

However, Zhou Dayong hesitated to speak, and Li Qiuju didn't notice either.

Finally, he asked, "Are you going to set up a stall in town tomorrow?"

“No, Sui Sui said she’ll rest for a day.” Li Qiuju thought there was no need to rest, as farmers like them always had work to do.

But she listened to her daughter when she spoke, completely unaware that Zhou Sui was subtly gaining a voice in the family.

Zhou Dayong breathed a sigh of relief when he heard that he wouldn't be able to set up a stall, and his tone seemed a bit firmer.

"My coworkers are coming to visit me tomorrow."

"Buy some meat and vegetables; you need to treat them well when they come."
