After seeing off those people with ulterior motives, Zhou Sui, in high spirits, hid behind the counter and began to study the dishes to be served next.
As soon as she sat down, she noticed the clock hanging on the wall.
Strange, isn't Song Qi'an coming over for dinner today?
He would usually be finished eating and about to leave by this time, but now there's not a trace of him.
Zhou Sui twirled the pen in her hand, trying to come up with an explanation for herself.
They've been eating it for three days in a row; maybe they're tired of it and have switched to something else.
The more Zhou Sui thought about it, the more reasonable it seemed. She shook her head slightly, focused her mind, and turned her attention to the notebook.
However, Song Qi'an did not change places to eat as Zhou Sui had expected.
He was actually ready to come, but he was held up by someone at the last minute.
"Manager Song, we're doing a great job, why are you suddenly replacing us?"
Opposite Song Qi'an stood several men, one of whom, a bald man, shouted at him.
"That's right, Manager Song, we have to give you a reason."
“We brothers work so hard, why shouldn’t we be the ones left out?”
The four people kept asking questions one after another. Song Qi'an's eyes turned cold, and the others silently shut their mouths.
Song Qi'an then spoke up, "I already explained the rules to you when I first arrived."
“You knowingly violated the rules, and you were given chances later, but you still made mistakes. I cannot tolerate people who do not follow the rules.”
Song Qi'an had already had his subordinates say these words to them once, and this was the last time he would explain them to them.
The bald man among the four was the leader; his name was Ma Shan.
"Manager Song, what's the point of those stupid rules? As long as we get the job done, that's all that matters."
"Don't be angry, it's not a big deal, come and have a cigarette."
With a grin, Ma Shan pulled out a cigarette case from his pocket, trying to get closer to Song Qi'an.
Song Qi'an wasn't buying it. Without even glancing at the cigarette, he got up, grabbed his coat, and headed outside.
He wondered if Zhou Sui was still waiting for him to eat at this time.
If he arrived late, Zhou Sui might have already gone home.
Ma Shan was humiliated and looked very upset. He shoved the cigarette into his pocket and exchanged glances with the others.
"Manager Song, since you don't welcome us, we won't stay here."
Song Qi'an's hand was already on the doorknob; he could easily pull the door open with a little effort.
"I've worked with you for a few days now, so there's something I have to tell you."
With a click, the door opened, but Song Qi'an did not step out.
"There's a problem with the foundation behind this house. You'd better go and take a look, just in case something goes wrong."
Ma Shan spoke leisurely, but his beady green eyes revealed a sinister glint.
“Foundation?” Song Qi’an turned around. “There’s nothing wrong with the foundation here.”
After he arrived, he inspected the entire place, inside and out, especially the foundation.
This is the most important part of building a house; if the foundation is unstable, everything else is nonsense.
Ma Shan chuckled, revealing his yellowed teeth. "You can say that these buildings are definitely fine, but the back of the buildings has sunk. Do you think that might have any impact?"
Song Qi'an's expression darkened. "Why didn't you say this earlier?"
Ma Shan, with a roguish air, said, "I didn't expect to be kicked out earlier. If we hadn't been kicked out, we would have definitely taken note of this issue ourselves. Now, if we don't say anything, wouldn't we be causing trouble for Manager Song?"
At this point, Song Qi'an stopped arguing with him. The workers outside had already started work, and since it was just the beginning, there was still time to resolve any problems.
He opened the office door. "Take me to see."
"Alright." Ma Shan didn't hesitate at all and took the lead in walking out.
Song Qi'an was a little surprised that he was so easy to talk to. Given his shameless nature, shouldn't he have taken the opportunity to extort another sum of money?
Looking at the group of people striding ahead, Song Qi'an became suspicious. They were heading in the opposite direction from the construction site, which was usually a remote place where waste was piled up.
For some reason, Song Qi'an suddenly remembered Zhou Sui's joke.
"Handsome guy, your forehead looks dark."
"Be careful you don't get beaten up."
"Don't go to remote places, and it's best not to go alone."
For some reason, Zhou Sui's words seemed to resonate with the current situation to a great extent.
Song Qi'an subconsciously stopped in his tracks. Ma Shan, noticing that no one was following, shouted loudly.
"Manager Song, are you leaving or not? If you're not going to check, we're leaving now. Don't blame us if problems arise later."
The more eager Ma Shan was to catch up, the more Song Qi'an felt something was wrong.
He ignored Ma Shan and turned to leave.
"Damn it." Ma Shan cursed under his breath. The man next to him asked anxiously, "Brother, that kid isn't taking the bait. What do we do?"
Ma Shan gritted his teeth and said, "If you're not going to use a trap, go for it! Get the guy here!"
"He dared to fire us, he'll be sorry. Does he really think we're easy to mess with?"
“I think the watch on his wrist is valuable. We’ll take it and it’ll be ours.”
The group hesitated slightly. "Brother Mashan, there are people ahead. What if they see us?"
Ma Shan slapped him across the face. "What's the use of dawdling? Just drag him to the side and find a place to block him out."
"Hurry up, what are you waiting for?" Ma Shan shouted, and several people rushed towards Song Qi'an.
Sure enough, these people's motives were not simple.
Song Qi'an turned around and looked at the several men rushing towards him, his hands hanging at his sides quickly clenching into fists.
But he stood still and took a punch head-on.
While Ma Shan and the others were wondering what was going on, Song Qi'an made his move with lightning speed.
He learned combat in the army and was most skilled at close-quarters fighting. Although not every move was fatal, every move hit a vital point.
In the blink of an eye, two of the four men fell down. Ma Shan, speaking in classical Chinese, realized he was no match for them, so he picked up a wooden plank from the ground and threw it at them.
The wooden plank came crashing down on his head. Song Qi'an was blocked and couldn't dodge it, so he had to raise his hand to block it. He felt a tingling sensation in his arm, and his eyes became even colder, making Ma Shan feel a chill down his spine.
Before he could react, Song Qi'an had already launched an attack on him. He was big, but not very agile. A sweeping leg sent him crashing to the ground.
As he fell to the ground, he saw many people running over in alarm.
That's it. I didn't get my anger out, and instead, I got myself into trouble.
When Zhou Sui heard that Song Qi'an had been injured at the construction site, she was shocked and drew a long line on her notebook with her pen.
I thought that since so much time had passed and Song Qi'an hadn't encountered any danger, her so-called premonition should have passed by now.
I never expected that it would come true when I had almost forgotten about it.
