"I hit someone."
"That man's head was covered in blood."
"So much blood was flowing out of his head."
With each word Zhang Zongyao spoke, Zhang Xiaoqing's gaze grew increasingly somber. She stared intently at Zhang Zongyao, unsure of what to say.
Zhou Sui and Zhou Peng returned to the store just as Zhou Xu came back.
The kid didn't know what was going on; he just grinned and kept laughing.
Zhou Sui couldn't help but ask, "What's making you so happy?"
"Sis, don't ask me yet, let me have some fun by myself. It's absolutely hilarious, so satisfying, hahaha."
Hearing this, Zhou Sui became curious. After waiting for Zhou Xu to finish laughing, she finally heard him speak.
"Is Zhang Zongyao going to be in big trouble?"
"Who?" Zhou Sui couldn't remember who this person was for a moment.
"It's the one who lingered at the door when I brought my classmates here for dinner." Zhou Sui remembered after Zhou Xu reminded her.
At the time, Zhou Sui also heard her younger brother complaining about Zhang Zongyao. Later, after returning to the village, she heard his name several times, and of course, none of them were good.
The main problem is that the Zhang family spoiled him too much.
"What's wrong with him?"
Zhou Xu lowered his voice slightly, "He hit someone on the head with a stone, and the person's head bled, and he demanded compensation from Zhang Zongyao."
What's so funny about this? Zhou Sui realized she couldn't quite understand what was so joyful about it.
"Then guess who got hit by him?"
Zhou Sui shook her head; how would she know?
"He is the elder brother that Zhang Zongyao recognized outside."
Some people stop studying early on and don't look for work. They just laze around all day, relying on the little money their families give them, and drift through life.
Zhang Zongyao started associating with such people, and even thought that associating with such people was a prestigious thing.
He tells everyone at school that he knows some big shot outside, and if you dare mess with him, you'll regret it.
Some timid students were genuinely frightened, while others, like Zhou Xu, were quite brave.
If Zhang Zongyao dared to say anything, Zhou Xu would definitely retort, "Go ahead and shout, call your older brother here, and see if I call the police or not. Then you and your older brother will go to jail together."
Zhang Zongyao was a bully who preyed on the weak and feared the strong. When he encountered someone tough, he could only groan and dared not do anything.
"Have the brothers turned against each other?" Zhou Sui guessed.
“It’s the older brother who’s extorting the younger brother.” Zhou Xu said, leaving Zhou Sui completely stunned.
Extortion? The price is too high. Using your head to extort money could easily cost you your life.
"The guy who got his head smashed by Zhang Zongyao is completely fine."
Huh? Zhou Sui felt like her brain was malfunctioning; one minute her head was being hit, the next it was fine.
"Stop beating around the bush, just say it." Zhou Sui glared at him. This kid is getting better and better at talking, keeping people in suspense.
Zhou Xu chuckled and then told the whole story.
The reason those gang leaders were willing to hang out with Zhang Zongyao was mainly because his family was willing to give him money. With Zhang Zongyao's money, these penniless gang leaders could eat and drink to their hearts' content.
Zhang Zongyao wasn't very smart, but he wasn't stupid either. He was unhappy that money that he had originally spent alone was now being spent by four people.
When asked to spend more money later, he refused to give that much.
These gangsters finally found someone whose family was generous with money, so of course they weren't willing to let Zhang Zongyao go.
So the remaining three people discussed it and put on this show for Zhang Zongyao. They argued with Zhang Zongyao and pretended to be beaten and bleeding from the head. In fact, when they fell to the ground, they accidentally broke open a bag of chicken blood.
Zhou Sui's lips twitched as she listened. She had just acted in a play herself, but compared to this older brother, she felt like a small fry compared to a big fish.
That's clever of him; no wonder he's the leader.
"Didn't Zhang Zongyao notice anything amiss?" Putting aside everything else, whether he used too much or too little force, and if this was an act, there would definitely be traces, yet he didn't notice anything at all.
This is what Zhou Xu found funny: "You wouldn't believe it, as soon as that guy fell down, the other two people came up and shoved Zhang Zongyao, and then the guy on the ground just started acting."
"Blood, my blood, no, my head, my head is bleeding." Zhou Xu even acted it out on the spot, quite vividly.
"Zhang Zongyao was so frightened that his legs kept trembling."
"Later, those people told him to hurry home and get some money, not much, ten, eight, or fifty yuan would be fine, and to go to the hospital to get his head bandaged first."
"Otherwise they will call the police, and Zhang Zongyao will definitely be arrested."
"Those people also said they would wait for Zhang Zongyao to come back. If Zhang Zongyao didn't hurry up and someone died, he would be a murderer."
"I think they wanted Zhang Zongyao to hurry up so they could get the money and have dinner."
"Haha, that's hilarious! You wouldn't believe it, Zhang Zongyao ran like a coward, his legs were so weak he tripped and fell several times." "Serves him right, who told him to act like a bully all the time, thinking he had a big brother backing him up."
Zhou Sui was speechless, but she keenly sensed that something was amiss.
How do you know all this?
Zhou Xu and Zhang Zongyao didn't get along, so they were basically on different paths. But what Zhou Xu just said was clearly something he had seen with his own eyes.
Is it really just a coincidence that he ran into him on the road?
"I bumped into them on the street, took a second look, and that's how I heard all this."
Zhou Sui stared intently at Zhou Xu, expecting the answer she was looking for, but Zhou Xu's eyes darted around, and he didn't dare to meet her gaze at all. The truth was not like that.
"It's true, I only heard it from those people after Zhang Zongyao ran away, otherwise how could I know so clearly?"
Zhou Sui believed this, but~
"Where did you hear that?"
"South Street." Zhou Xu regretted saying it as soon as he opened his mouth, and really wanted to slap his own mouth.
The Zhou family's shop is located in the north, and taking South Street is the way back to the village. Why would Zhou Xu go to South Street for no reason?
"Zhou Xu!" Zhou Sui called out his full name, and Zhou Xu, who had been sitting, immediately stood up.
"Tell me honestly what exactly happened."
She refused to believe it; how could people from different walks of life coincide so perfectly? Who were they trying to fool?
"I really..." He wanted to say that was the truth, but under the pressure of his elder sister's gaze, his shoulders slumped and he finally told the truth.
"Yes, I am following Zhang Zongyao."
"That bastard has such a foul mouth, I can't get over it if I don't beat him up."
As Zhou Xu spoke, an indignant look appeared on his face.
