"By the way, were you the one who was looking for someone just now?" The jewelry store owner looked around; all the passersby were just ordinary people, except for Zhou Sui waiting at the door.
Zhou Sui pointed to a piece of paper pasted on the wall, "I see it says 'House for Rent' here."
I never expected to run into someone I know.
"You want to rent it?"
Zhou Sui nodded, "Yes, I'm planning to find a street-front location to start a small business."
The gold shop owner clapped his hands and exclaimed, "Isn't this a coincidence? We just decided to rent it out today. Come on in and take a look at the house."
As he spoke, he turned around and opened the dark red wooden door. "This house has been empty for many years, and it's quite dusty."
The door had barely opened when Feng'er covered her mouth and nose in disgust and took a few steps back.
"Hey, be gentle, there's so much dust."
"Okay, okay, I'll be careful. Step back a little, don't get choked by the dust."
The gold shop owner froze instantly, turned around to comfort Feng'er, and only opened the door again after she stepped back.
After the door opened, Feng'er didn't go in because she thought it was too dusty inside; only the gold shop owner and Zhou Sui went in.
This storefront is not much different from the one I saw before, and it's even a little bigger. It's probably because the inside is empty and there are no partitions, making it look very spacious.
The storefront is connected to a courtyard with a well, a toilet, and a simple room built of bricks, with only a layer of tarpaulin on the roof, weighed down by a few sticks.
Zhou Sui opened it and took a look. It was a mess inside, with furniture, clothes and blankets all mixed together, and the smell was indescribable.
The jewelry store owner explained, "I heard that this place used to be a storage room. After they moved out, they threw all the useless things into this room."
"I heard?" Zhou Sui seized on this key phrase.
The jewelry store owner scratched his head. "Oh dear, haven't I told you yet that this house belongs to Feng'er?"
After listening to him, Zhou Sui realized that this house was Feng'er's old house. She moved to the city in 1985, and the house had been empty ever since.
Feng'er hadn't come back since she moved out. This time, she came back because the two of them were out having fun and happened to pass through the town. They figured the house was empty anyway, so they decided to rent it out.
"What did you rent it for?" The gold shop owner said, glancing outside to make sure Feng'er wasn't paying attention to them before lowering his voice.
“Feng’er’s family is particular. This house was previously inhabited, and they don’t want to rent out messy or disorganized places.”
Zhou Sui understood, "Selling some snacks shouldn't be considered a mess, right?"
"Boss, how much is the rent for this house?"
The gold shop owner shook his head. "I don't know. Feng'er's family called their old neighbor and asked him to help arrange a rental. Feng'er and I are planning to meet that old neighbor later."
"By the way, please stop calling me 'boss' all the time, it's too formal."
"My name is Jin Wanlai, you can just call me Brother Jin."
"I remember your surname is Zhou, right?"
"Yes, Brother Jin, just call me Zhou Sui." Calling me boss is a bit too formal. Zhou Sui doesn't know what Feng'er is thinking right now. She hopes to get closer to Jin Wanlai so that it will be easier to negotiate the price if she wants to rent the place later.
After they finished looking at it, the two went outside, and Feng'er was playing with her gold ring.
"Little sister, how was the look?" Feng'er asked as she saw the person.
"That's pretty good. Brother Jin said there are requirements for tenants. My family runs a snack shop, is that okay?"
Feng'er thought for a moment before nodding, "Alright, let's eat. I think this street is mostly filled with shops and businesses, and the residents probably don't want to come here."
Because this place is too noisy due to the large number of people and vehicles.
Before Zhou Sui could ask, Feng'er continued, "My mom told me that the rent here is about three hundred a month."
Upon hearing this, Zhou Sui realized it was the same price as the one she had just looked at, indicating that the seller had clearly inquired about the details.
"but……"
Zhou Sui's ears immediately perked up.
"I'll give you a discount because of this ring, how about five hundred a quarter?"
That's equivalent to saving more than 30 yuan a month.
Feng'er's straightforwardness was somewhat unexpected for Zhou Sui, since she seemed like the kind of person who was difficult to talk to.
"How about it? Go back and discuss this price with your family."
In Feng'er's eyes, Zhou Sui was just a little girl, and such a big matter as rent still needed to be decided by her family.
Zhou Sui didn't mince words, "No need to discuss it, I'll rent this house directly."
Are you sure?
"Don't worry, let us know after you've discussed it with your family. We won't let anyone see the house in the meantime. It's been empty for so many years, so a few more days won't make a difference."
Zhou Sui thanked her for her kindness and reiterated that she could make the decision and could sign the contract and pay the rent on the spot.
Jin Wanlai said to Feng'er, "She's prejudiced. She sold the ring herself. Since she's willing to sign, let her sign."
Business people have a good eye for people. Ever since their conversation in the store, Jin Wanlai has thought that this young girl is extraordinary.
"Alright, Wanlai, I remember you have paper and pen in your car, bring them over and write the contract."
Jin Wanlai had only taken two steps when Feng'er called out, "And there's that blue bag I left in the car; it's full of house documents."
“Okay.” Jin Wanlai had just finished replying when Feng’er spoke up again, “Forget it, this room is dirty and messy, there’s not even a place to put the paper, let’s go to your car.”
"Let's go, little sister." He said, pulling Zhou Sui along.
Zhou Sui was both amused and exasperated. Feng'er really did come up with something on a whim. She looked delicate and spoke in a sweet, coquettish voice, but she had a fiery temper.
From viewing the house, signing the contract, paying the rent, to getting the keys, the whole process took less than half an hour.
Since the house has been rented out, Feng'er wants to move the old items out of the storage room. The rest are all unwanted, and Zhou Sui can handle them as she sees fit.
The storage room was dirty and messy, so Feng'er obviously couldn't go in. She just glanced at it from a distance, then directed Jin Wanlai to get it, while she herself retreated far away.
Zhou Sui waited with her outside, and the two chatted idly.
"Little sister, you haven't found a boyfriend yet, have you?"
Zhou Sui shook her head; all she wanted to do now was to expand and strengthen the business and create new glories.
"I've been there, so let me tell you, you have to be careful when choosing a man. If you make a mistake, you might regret it for the rest of your life."
“Jin Wanlai and I dated for more than two years. I only agreed to his marriage proposal after I had seen enough of him.”
As they chatted, Feng'er started referring to herself as "sister" and began to talk at length about how women should be discerning when looking for a partner.
What she said made some sense, but not all of it was true.
It's not right for Zhou Sui to agree, nor is it right for her to disagree.
I really hope Jin Wanlai moves his things out quickly so he can stop Feng'er's love theories.
Just then, someone came over and spoke to me.
