Chapter 10 The First Proposal for Divorce

"Your old house is worthless and uninhabitable. Why would you want that house?"

After crying for a while, Chang Ma calmed down. She was never one to just cry; she could vent her emotions and then quickly regain her composure.

“Mom, that school is in our brigade. Our homestead will be very valuable in the future. When we have money, we can build a multi-story house in the village. We can use the downstairs as shops and the upstairs as dormitories. The rent of tens of thousands of yuan a year would be quite good.”

Ten years later, the village university has developed, upgraded from a junior college to a university, and has tens of thousands of students. The old house area is now filled with six-story rental houses, and the villagers are making a fortune.

“Sister Huizhen, Chang Jing’s analysis is correct. The homesteads in the village will be valuable in the future. Many people have already built houses next to the university. It will develop into a commercial area in the future.”

Uncle Song himself built his business from scratch and had a keen eye. He nodded repeatedly as he listened to Chang Jing's analysis.

"Okay, Mom will listen to you. We'll take the old house, and the city house will stay with Chang Guomin. We don't need to divide the money. Anyway, I've never received any of the money he earned. You'll stay with me, and whether he pays child support or not is up to him. I can support you. Just don't ask for too much from you in the future if he doesn't pay child support."

Chang's mother had already mentally reviewed the divorce agreement. She was a woman with a high school education, a successful businesswoman with a large car license plate, and quite worldly-wise. If Chang Guomin hadn't destroyed her license plate, she would probably be driving for city leaders right now.

"Yuming, do you know any lawyers? I'd like to hire someone to draft a divorce agreement for me."

“Alright, I’ll go to the law firm with you tomorrow. I have a friend who does this.”

While Chang Ma and her two sons had finalized their divorce arrangements with Song's uncle, Old Lady Chang was also urging Chang Guomin to divorce.

“That Song Huizhen is unfilial, shrewish, and selfish. I told you to get a divorce a long time ago. Amin, even if you get a divorce, you still haven’t found someone good. As for Song Huizhen, a divorced woman with a child, I’d like to see who would dare to marry her.”

"Old woman, shut up!"

Old Master Chang was a man who didn't concern himself with anything and only cared about his own enjoyment. His greatest pleasure every day was going out for morning tea and playing a game of dominoes in the afternoon. He had money to spend and didn't care about anything else.

However, it's not a good thing if the eldest son gets divorced in middle age, especially if the divorce was triggered by the old lady asking the eldest son for money. He worries that the eldest son will resent their parents for being biased in the future.

"Guomin, what were you thinking? How could you possibly want a divorce? What about the children? You're not going to keep any of them?"

Not seeing Chang Jing, Old Master Chang's expression was not good. He didn't want to get too involved in this matter, but he couldn't completely ignore it either.

“They’ve all gone with his mother, so why should I stay? Let’s get a divorce. I have a job and a house, and my household registration is in the city. I can easily find a woman to live with.”

Chang Guomin took a deep drag on his cigarette, his eyes bloodshot. He was definitely unwilling to accept it, and he still couldn't understand why Chang Jing had changed so much. Without Chang Jing's persuasion, Song Huizhen would definitely insist on divorce!

"How should we divide the things in the house? I can't control you too much, but I have to tell you, think it through carefully, so you don't regret it later!"

Think things through. Your mom has a sharp tongue but a soft heart, so don't blame her. Huizhen has a strong personality, so it's understandable that she doesn't get along with your mom. You just need to put your mom's emotions aside and handle this situation.”

No matter what he says, the old man of the Chang family just doesn't want to take responsibility. He'd rather deny that his eldest son's divorce was caused by his wife's meddling.

“Yes, brother, you should go and bring your sister-in-law back tomorrow! I will find a way to borrow money for Xiao Cheng’s schooling. No matter how bad your sister-in-law is, she still gave birth to two children for you. For Chang Jing’s sake, you can’t just get a divorce like that.”

Uncle Chang isn't stupid. The trigger for his brother's divorce was his son borrowing money to buy a degree. What if his brother resents him if he doesn't have a good life in the future?

Moreover, Song Huizhen is a particularly good money-maker. With her around, her brother's wallet will be fuller. Even if he doesn't get a lot of money, he'll still have plenty of small change.

The Chang family members, each with their own thoughts, were busy calculating and making their own decisions. When Chang Guomin heard his uncle mention Chang Jing, his anger surged up again.

"Don't try to persuade me, I'm determined to get a divorce. Tomorrow I'll take the day off to go and finalize the divorce with Song Huizhen, and I'll make sure she and her three children get out of my house."

"Okay, that's how it should be! Wait, why is Chang Jing coming along too?"

Finally realizing what was happening, Old Lady Chang stared wide-eyed at Chang Guomin. In her opinion, her eldest grandson had always been easy to coax. This time, his trouble with her younger grandson was just a child throwing a tantrum. She would talk to her eldest grandson properly after a few days when things had calmed down, and then everything would be fine.

"Chang Jing is an ungrateful traitor. This time he actually sided with his mother and contradicted me. I'd rather not have such a rebellious son."

He was obedient to his parents and naturally hoped that his son would be equally filial to him. However, Chang Jing's actions this time disappointed Chang Guomin, and he was now even more furious at Chang Jing's lack of filial piety.

“Amin, bring Chang Jing back tomorrow. I’ll have a good talk with him. Song Huizhen can have a divorce, but she absolutely cannot take Chang Jing with her.”

Grandma Chang's thoughts changed quickly. She had previously been indifferent to Chang Jing, but now that she knew both of her grandsons were going with Song Huizhen, she started to feel uncomfortable.

Why should Song Hye-jin take the child away whenever she wants? She will absolutely not let Song Hye-jin have her way!

The next day, Song's uncle contacted his friends early in the morning and arranged to meet in a private room at a teahouse to discuss Song Huizhen's divorce agreement.
