Chapter 50 They Came to the Door

Chang Guomin visited Song Huizhen's fruit shop around noon. The fruit was neatly arranged, and two employees were moving goods in and out of the cold storage.

Upon closer inspection, Chang Guomin noticed that many customers arrived in cars, carrying boxes of fruit into their trunks – business was booming.

What are you doing here?

After greeting the customers, Song Huizhen noticed Chang Guomin standing not far away. She frowned, looking somewhat disgusted.

"What, I can't come? Are you afraid I'll disturb your search for a new partner, or are you afraid I'll take Xiao Jing and her brother away?"

Despite regretting the divorce, Chang Guomin still didn't treat Song Hye-jin well, habitually resorting to confrontation.

"If you're here to argue, I'm sorry I don't have time for you."

"What arguing? It's clearly you who doesn't like me, that's why I said a few harsh words. Okay, okay, let's not talk about that anymore. I want to talk to you about the two kids. How about we go outside to a quiet place and have a proper talk?"

Chang Guomin remembered his purpose and didn't want to argue with Song Huizhen anymore. He thought that by restraining his temper, she would give him face and listen to his requests.

"What's wrong with the two children? Xiao Jing and Xiao Ling are doing very well. Xiao Ling has always been well-behaved and doesn't need adults to worry about her. Xiao Jing has also made progress, and her grades have improved by leaps and bounds. There's nothing to worry about either of them."

Song Huizhen felt there was really nothing to say to Chang Guomin. She had won custody of the two children and hadn't asked the Chang family for child support since then. She just didn't want Chang Guomin to have an excuse to interfere too much in the children's affairs.

Especially now that the family is wealthy, Chang Jing told Song Huizhen that the Chang family might not be happy about their wealth, and since the Chang family can't gain any advantage, they will definitely cause trouble.

As expected, Chang Guomin is here to cause trouble! Thinking of this, Song Huizhen looked at Chang Guomin with disdain.

"Of course you don't care, you're already planning to remarry with Xiao Jing's money..."

Once the conversation started, an argument naturally ensued, just like in the past, the two quickly got into a heated argument, only this time Song Hye-jin was much more confident.

Chang Jing's huge sum of money not only solved the family's financial situation, but also gave Song Huizhen endless hope for the future.

She didn't need to worry about Chang Guomin's opinion, she didn't need to worry about not having enough money to raise her children, and she didn't need to be threatened by Old Lady Chang kicking her out of the house.

"Xiao Jing's money belongs to Xiao Jing. It's none of your business to interfere or lay a finger on it."

"I am Xiao Jing's father. Xiao Jing is only sixteen years old and a minor. I can keep his money safe for him. I'm afraid you're worried about my appearance because you want to keep it all for yourself!"

Chang Guomin persisted relentlessly, which infuriated Song Huizhen. How come she hadn't realized before that Chang Guomin was so shameless?

"I have custody of Xiao Jing and Xiao Ling. It's none of your business how they behave. Besides, why didn't you care about the children before the divorce? Now you want to take advantage, so you're fighting for custody? You should just go eat shit!"

Song Huizhen was so angry that she started saying things she shouldn't have, but Chang Guomin thought he was right because he was loud, and the noise got louder and louder.

"Hmph, I am Chang Jing's biological father, and I am taking the child back to the Chang family."

"Get out! Don't ever show your face in front of me or my children again."

Song Huizhen ended her conversation with Chang Guomin with a curt "Get out!" There was no point in saying more when they couldn't see eye to eye.

Chang Guomin didn't get the desired response from Song Huizhen, so how could he give up? He thought he should have a good talk with his son and try to bring her back to the Chang family.

Unexpectedly, when Chang Jing saw Chang Guomin at the front gate after school, he turned around and walked straight to the back gate of the school without hesitation for a second.

On this day, Chang Guomin first encountered a setback with Song Hye-jin, and then failed to see his own son. His anger had already accumulated to a great extent.

The next morning, Chang Guomin didn't go to work. He went straight to the school to look for his son and shamelessly told Chang Jing's teachers how much he missed his son and how much he cared for him. However, his son couldn't understand his feelings as a father.

Knowing that his own father would come looking for trouble, he could avoid it for a while but not forever, but Chang Jing wanted Chang Guomin to come looking for him a few more times.

Now that there was no way to avoid it, it didn't matter if they met. Chang Jing then followed the teacher to the academic affairs office to meet the person.

"Xiao Jing, it's really not easy for Dad to see you." Chang Guomin thanked the teacher profusely, and then asked to ask for a day off for Chang Jing to handle some family matters.

"Teacher, could you please bring Xiaojing here? We have some family matters to attend to and need our child to take a day off. Could you please make an exception for us?"

When parents request leave, teachers usually don't refuse, so Chang Guomin left smoothly with Chang Jing, who had requested leave.

Inside a private room of a tea restaurant, the two elders of the Chang family were waiting for Chang Jing to arrive, and they generously ordered a table full of snacks and tea.

On this day, Chang Jing seemed to be treated like the eldest grandson of the Chang family. Even the old man Chang showed concern for him, and the old woman Chang ordered several baskets of dumplings and snacks for Chang Jing to eat his fill. This kind of treatment was probably something Chang Decheng had never experienced.

"Grandpa, Grandma, I'm full. I have class this afternoon, so I'm going back to school now. Otherwise, I'm afraid I won't be able to keep up with the lessons."

Since the three of them weren't saying anything, he didn't feel obligated to ask. He just wanted to eat and drink his fill and then leave.

Seeing that Chang Jing had finished eating and was about to leave, Chang Guomin finally asked about the jade gambling, though what he really wanted to know was where all the money was.

"Oh, yes, there is such a thing as gambling on stones, but saying that I won millions in stone gambling is an exaggeration. If I really had millions, my mother wouldn't need to work so hard, getting up in the middle of the night to wholesale fruit and run a business."

Chang Jing, seemingly oblivious to the urgency of the three people opposite him, casually recounted where the money had gone.

"Dad, actually I've spent all that money. I decided to buy two apartments in Junchi Plaza, and used the rest to build a building. My third uncle designed the building for me. I reckon that money might not be enough, and I'll probably have to borrow some from someone."

Chang Jing secretly admired the three people opposite him as they went from excitement to seriousness, and finally their faces turned extremely ugly, even showing a hint of anger.

"You silly child, how can you say you've spent such a large sum of money? Don't you even consider that your father is still in debt? Where is your filial piety?"

Old Mrs. Chang started the fight by hurling insults. In the Chang family's mind, Chang Guomin got divorced because of gambling debts, and if Chang Jing was a filial son, he should take out that money to pay off Chang Guomin's debts.

"Xiao Jing, you know your dad got divorced because of gambling debts, right? Now your dad knows he was wrong and knows how to correct himself. Why don't you take out some money and let your dad pay off his debts?"

The shrewd and calculating old man Chang didn't really believe that Chang Jing had spent all his money. He figured that even if the money from gambling on stones was gone, there were still two houses and money left to build a house.

"Yes, Xiao Jing, consider that money as a loan from you. Pay it back first, and don't let outsiders laugh at our family. I know you've always been a filial child, and you also hope that our family can reconcile!"

The shameless Chang Guomin hoped to use kinship and family ties to blackmail Chang Jing into handing over his money.
