Chapter 12: We went to Tianshui City

Xu Minghan reached out and patted him on the shoulder, saying gratefully, "Thanks, brother, I'm truly grateful."

"Hey, you're even using words now? You watch too many TV dramas! Do I need to say thank you to you?"

Xu Dongxiang even laid a straw mat in the middle of the car and put a thin quilt on it.

"I saw that it was inconvenient for my sister-in-law to sit on the stool, and my car was swaying back and forth, so I asked my wife to find a blanket to lay down on so that my sister-in-law could rest half-lying down. I tried to drive slowly."

Zhang Xuemei smiled gratefully at Xu Dongxiang, "Dongxiang, I won't say much more in thanks. We'll remember it all. If you need any help from us in the future, just let us know."

My family is penniless now and can't help him. But when I finally make money, I'll definitely help him out.

"Sister-in-law, it's alright. Minghan and I are like brothers. By the way, where are you going? I'll deliver it directly to you."

"Just take us to the town's bus station, we need to take a bus to..."

"Alright, stop talking to me. I'm afraid I'll get drunk one day and someone will try to trick me into revealing information." Xu Minghan was interrupted before he could finish speaking.

Zhang Xuemei chuckled, thinking that it probably wasn't that serious.

Accompanied by the clattering sound of the tricycle, the vehicle arrived at the bus station more than half an hour later.

Xu Dongxiang parked the car and jumped out of the driver's seat. "Then I'll just drop you off here. I'll head back now."

"Okay, you can go back now! Drive carefully, I'll find you for a drink again next time!"

Xu Dongxiang waved his hand and drove away.

Xu Minghan helped his wife walk into the station; at this time, tickets could still be bought on the train.

Xu Minghan first followed the sign on the windshield to find the bus heading to Tianshui City, then asked the driver who was smoking nearby, "Sir, when does this bus to Tianshui City leave?"

The driver glanced at them, stubbed out his cigarette, gestured with his chin to the side, and said, "It's 3:30. We'll be leaving in half an hour. Do you want to get on first?"

The driver saw that Zhang Xuemei was heavily pregnant and it wasn't easy for her, so he thought that at least she could have a seat first.

"Thank you so much, Master." Xu Minghan said to him, thinking that there are still many good people in the world.

The driver opened the car door and let them get in first, then he followed them in.

"You're going to Tianshui City Bus Station, right?"

Xu Minghan nodded. "Yes, what's wrong?"

The driver shook his head. "It's alright. You can sit in the last row. Be careful, and you'd better bring a coat to cover your wife. There are a lot of people and eyes on the bus."

Xu Minghan instantly understood. "Thank you, brother, I understand. Xuemei, why don't you sit in the car for a while? I'll go outside and buy some clothes; I needed to buy some anyway."

When I first came in, I saw a row of clothing vendors outside the station. I picked out a couple of items at random, and I figured I'd have something to change into when I got to Tianshui.

Xu Minghan jogged to the clothing stall and, based on the owner's recommendation, picked up two short-sleeved shirts, a pair of oversized pants, and a floral dress for his wife.

He simply grabbed two old-fashioned shirts, since he wasn't that particular about them anyway.

When he returned, there were already a few more people in the car. Xu Minghan went straight to the back, put the bag of clothes on his wife's lap, and covered her up a little.

"Are you feeling unwell? I bought you two tea eggs and some dried tofu. Eat these first, there's still plenty of time!"

Zhang Xuemei was really hungry, so she took the tea egg her husband had peeled and started eating it. And you know what? This old-fashioned tea egg was really delicious.

And so, Xu Minghan and the others sat in the car waiting to depart. More and more people got on the car one after another, but they all sat in the front, and no one wanted to sit in the back.

"Alright, it's time to leave. Nobody's getting on, right?" the driver shouted to the people waiting outside. Seeing no one answer, he prepared to close the doors.

"Hey, wait a minute, I haven't even gotten on yet, who's going to sell you a ticket!" A middle-aged woman jumped onto the train from outside, with a fanny pack around her waist and a metal box in her hand.

The driver quickly replied with a laugh, "I really forgot about you, haha!"

The bus started moving out of the station before the ticket seller could even get a foothold on it.

As the bus swayed, the ticket seller stood in front of the passengers, holding a metal box, and sold tickets one by one.

"Come on, everyone's going to Tianshui City, right? We're going straight onto the highway this time, no stops along the way, we've all bought tickets."

Xu Minghan had prepared the money in advance, and as soon as the person arrived, he handed over the money and received two train tickets.

"It'll take about two hours to drive! You can lean on me and sleep for a while." Xu Minghan put his arm around his wife's waist and let her lean on his shoulder.

Zhang Xuemei was really tired, and she fell asleep leaning on her husband's shoulder.

When he woke up and found the car was still moving, he sat up straight, wiped the drool from the corner of his mouth, and asked, "Where are we?"

"We're in Tianshui City now, heading to the station! It's good you're awake."

Looking at the sky, it should be almost six o'clock. Once we get to the station, we'll just take the red bus.

After another ten minutes or so, the bus finally pulled into the station. As the bus stopped, the passengers gradually got off.

Xu Minghan helped his wife down the bus after everyone else had left. Once they were off the bus, he turned around, took out a pack of cigarettes from his pocket, and put it into the driver's arms.

"Thank you for reminding me before, brother. This is just a small token of my appreciation. Thank you so much, brother."

After saying that, he got out of the car and helped Zhang Xuemei walk out.

The driver took a while to react, muttering to himself, "Good people really do get good rewards. Hey, a free pack of cigarettes, not bad."

As soon as Xu Minghan stepped out of the bus station, he immediately hailed a red taxi, asking, "Driver, how much to Tianyi Residential Area?"

The driver glanced at the two of them and quoted a price, "Five yuan."

Xu Minghan glanced at him and said, "Master, don't take advantage of a newcomer. Last time I came, it was only two yuan and fifty cents! Why does it cost five yuan now?"

The driver muttered a few words, then waved his hand, "Come on up, it's two yuan and fifty cents, you can't stop me from raising the price, it's getting dark!"

Xu Minghan ignored him, figuring he could just give him two yuan and fifty cents.

Then he helped his wife into the car and comforted her, saying, "We'll be home soon. We'll have dinner when we get there."

Although Zhang Xuemei ate two tea eggs on the bus, she was now eating for two people and getting hungry quickly; her stomach was already empty.

About twenty minutes later, they arrived at Tianyi Residential Area. Xu Minghan paid the fare and helped his wife downstairs.

He turned and looked around, then pointed ahead and said, "How about we go over there and get a bowl of noodles?"

Zhang Xuemei shook her head, "Let's not. Didn't you say you have all the pots and pans at home? Let's cook at home! It's too conspicuous in the shop."
