Chapter 16 Calling on the Sister-in-Law for Help

"They were all gone when we were reborn, otherwise we could have stopped them." Xu Minghan thought that his sister-in-law and the others would probably lose everything again, just like in their previous life.

Zhang Xuemei was also troubled by the thought of her eldest sister. Although she knew they would lose money this time, she had no evidence, and even her closest relatives wouldn't believe her if she said it like that.

There's nothing we can do but wait and see.

"Let's not talk about them. I'm talking about Xiaowan. She can come and take care of me, and I'll pay her a salary."

Zhang Xuemei thought that at this time, her sister-in-law Xu Mingwan should still be working at the button factory. Not only was the work tiring, but she was also constantly gossiped about because of her good looks.

Xu Minghan thought about it and agreed. "You're right. We should call her over. We don't need to wait until you give birth. I'll call her in a few days and ask her to come over. I'm too busy to handle this anyway."

Besides, she'd said before that she was unhappy at the button factory, so she's here to help me. I can't let her suffer losses."

"Sure, you can invite her over. There are rooms at home." Zhang Xuemei thought it would be more lively with another person at home, and besides, she and her sister-in-law had always gotten along well.

Zhang Xuemei thought for a moment and then said, "There's something else I need to tell you. I think Xiaowan's future husband isn't very suitable."

Xu Minghan waved his hand and said, "Of course I know that. I will never let her marry someone from afar in this lifetime, or she will be bullied without my knowledge."

"Well, that's good. Girls shouldn't marry far away." No matter how many years have passed, Zhang Xuemei still feels that marrying far away is a gamble, and if you lose, you'll really have nothing left.

Xu Minghan nodded. In his previous life, he was working odd jobs to pay off his debts and hadn't had time for Xiaowan.

By the time they found out, it was already too late, and they wouldn't see each other more than a few times a year afterward.

Later, everyone got a mobile phone, making communication easier, and some things could no longer be kept secret.

The husband neglects his family, pretending to be generous outside but being harsh on his wife at home. The children are also disappointing, constantly demanding money from her.

He's clearly younger than his older brother, but he looks older than him. It's heartbreaking for the older brothers to see that.

"It's noon, why don't we start cooking?" Zhang Xuemei glanced at the clock on the wall; it was almost eleven o'clock.

Xu Minghan touched his face, nodded, and got up to make noodles.

Soon, they brought back several small bowls on a tray, each containing two chopsticks' worth of noodles—thick, thin, flat, and round, among others.

"Come and try some! I bought several kinds of noodles. Come and taste which ones you like best, and pick two to take with you."

Zhang Xuemei glanced down at the small bowl on the table and asked, "You also cooked thick rice noodles?"

"Yes, I think people should eat rice noodles, and this kind doesn't clump together easily. You should try it."

Xu Minghan was confident in his meat sauce, which he had improved several times and even received the certification of Panpan, a picky eater.

Zhang Xuemei stirred it with her chopsticks, then picked up a piece and put it in her mouth, savoring it carefully.

"Hmm, the saltiness is just right, the soy sauce flavor is rich, and it even has a slight spiciness. It's really good."

After saying that, he put the rest of it into his mouth. It was only two bites in total, and he didn't feel anything at all.

He picked up the next portion, stirred it, and frowned. "This noodle is no good. It clumps up too easily. Look, it's all clumped together. The more I stir it, the more clumps it gets. It's a complete waste of meat sauce."

Xu Minghan quickly took the bowl from her hand and ate it himself, saying, "I'll eat this bowl, you can have the next one."

Xu Minghan bought a total of five kinds of noodles. Except for the kind that easily clumps together, the other four were all good.

"Just bring three kinds: thick rice noodles, thick noodles, and thin noodles, depending on their preference." Zhang Xuemei felt that her husband might not be able to manage alone, so it was better to prepare less.

"Okay, I'll do as you say. We can set up our stall tomorrow at noon and make a lot of money, haha."

Xu Minghan was genuinely excited. He used to look down on street vendors, but after hearing Panpan talk about people online who bought cars and houses and had millions in savings through street vending, he wondered why he hadn't thought about doing that when he was younger!

They just can't bring themselves to do it. They feel that if they're going to do something, they have to be a big boss. If their starting point is too high and their abilities don't match it, then they're bound to stumble.

"Alright, stop laughing. Go call Xiaowan and tell her to come over as soon as possible."

"Okay, I'll go now." Xu Minghan took a small phone book from the cabinet in his room, flipped to the page with the phone number his sister had left him, and went out with his hands in his pockets.

To say this house was a worthwhile purchase is an understatement; there are various breakfast options and shops right outside the door, and a wet market not far away, which can meet basic living needs.

"Boss, I need to make a phone call."

The shop owner glanced at Xu Minghan. "Don't you look familiar? Did you just move here?"

Xu Minghan smiled and said, "Yes, I just bought a house here. I'm living here with my wife and kids, just trying to make a living!"

Upon hearing this, the boss exclaimed, "Wow, this is incredible! You own a house!" His smile widened even further. "Good job, young man! You've already bought a house! Here, dial the number yourself!"

As he spoke, he pushed the telephone forward.

Xu Minghan dialed the number his younger sister had left him, and it rang for a long time before someone answered.

"Hello, who is this?" came an unfamiliar male voice from the other end of the phone.

"Hello, I'd like to find Xu Mingwan from your factory. I'm her third brother. Could you please call her for me?"

Xu Minghan knew that this was the internal phone number of their button factory, and they could usually answer calls from the family members of the factory's employees, but they would have to pay someone for it.

"Oh, you're looking for Xu Mingwan? I'll go get her for you. Call me back in five minutes." Then she hung up.

Xu Minghan glanced at the clock hanging on the wall of the convenience store and calculated the time in his mind.

Since I was bored anyway, I started chatting with the boss.

"Hey lady, your little shop is doing pretty well! I think you're the only one around here!"

Xu Huafeng, who was called "Big Sister", grinned and said, "Why call me Big Sister? I already have a grandson, who is the same age as your parents. Just call me Auntie."

"Wow, I can't believe it! You have a grandson already, but you still look so young! You've really taken good care of yourself."

The old Xu Minghan would never have said such a thing. Having experienced various video promotions in later generations, he knew that women love to hear that he looks young, and subtracting twenty years from his age would be a sure thing.

"You're quite the smooth talker, aren't you? But people always say I look young. I haven't done any skincare; that's for rich people."

Xu Huafeng touched her face and exclaimed, "Oh dear, I knew that face oil was effective! Look, everyone's calling me 'Big Sister' now. I need to stock up on several bottles!"

Xu Minghan smiled and continued, "Big sister, does this shop belong to your family?"

"Yes, my son bought it. It cost 20,000 yuan!" Xu Huafeng held up two fingers and waved them in front of Xu Minghan.

"Wow, your son is really amazing, he got this." He gave her a thumbs up.
