Chapter 207 Emergency Cesarean Section

"Third Sister," Le Rong looked at Zhang Xuemei in a panic. She didn't understand what the doctor meant. Was the baby not well?

Zhang Xuemei sensed the urgency in the doctor's words. She also understood the harm that cloudy amniotic fluid could cause to the baby, but could the current cesarean section technology handle it?

Seeing Le Rong's nervousness, she knew she could only rely on herself now. So she composed herself and asked, "Doctor, would a C-section be better?"

The doctor looked at Zhang Xuemei, knowing she was someone who could make decisions, and carefully explained both scenarios, finally adding, "Of course, the final decision is up to you. Our hospital has a lot of experience with cesarean sections, and generally there won't be any problems. It's the best and fastest option for the baby."

"Xiao Rong, you..."

"Do it, have a C-section right now," Le Rong made up her mind before Zhang Xuemei could finish speaking.

Seeing that Le Rong had made up her mind, Zhang Xuemei stopped talking and just followed the nurse's instructions to pay the fees. When she came back up, Le Rong had already been wheeled into the operating room.

Upon hearing the news, Zhang Xueshan rushed over, asking questions all the way to the operating room door. He saw only his third sister pacing back and forth, so he quickly went up to her and grabbed her, "Third sister, what happened to Xiaorong? You couldn't explain it clearly on the phone. She was fine this morning, why does she need surgery now?"

Zhang Xuemei was furious when she saw her younger brother. "Didn't I remind you a long time ago to take Xiaorong for prenatal checkups and listen to the doctor? Why didn't you go to the hospital when the due date arrived?"

The doctor said the amniotic fluid is cloudy and the baby's heartbeat isn't very good, so the baby needs to be delivered immediately. Every second of delay increases the risk, so Xiaorong opted for a cesarean section and is now in the operating room.

"Why is the amniotic fluid cloudy? What does this mean? Didn't Mom say that she was born a month late and everything was fine?"

Zhang Xueshan was completely bewildered. He didn't understand any of this. He thought his mother, who had given birth to several children, should know a lot. So when his wife's due date arrived, he didn't go to the hospital for a checkup and just waited for the baby to come out on its own.

"To put it simply, the baby is too big, and it pooped in the amniotic fluid, which made the amniotic fluid dirty. Then the baby drank the amniotic fluid. How could this not cause problems?" That was the only explanation Zhang Xuemei could give. She knew he wouldn't understand if she explained it in more detail.

"Oh, will Xiaorong and the baby be alright? It's all my fault. If only I had taken her to the hospital sooner... I..." Zhang Xueshan was filled with self-reproach. If anything had happened to his wife and child, he really wouldn't want to live anymore. Waaah~

"Why are you crying? Your crying is bringing bad luck. I haven't called Mom yet. You should hurry up and tell her to bring the baby's swaddle, blankets, and clothes to the hospital."

Zhang Xuemei was now thinking of finding something for her younger brother to do to distract him and prevent him from crying and whining beside her, which would be annoying.

Zhang Xueshan paused in her sobbing, wiped away her tears, and silently ran to the nurses' station to make a phone call.

Liu Taohua arrived quickly, about ten minutes later. She first gave the things to the nurse to take inside, and then nervously pulled her daughter aside and asked, "Xuemei, what happened? I just went out to buy some groceries, how did Xiaorong end up in the operating room?"

"Mom, the doctor said the baby pooped in the amniotic fluid and then drank it, so we need to deliver it quickly," Zhang Xueshan explained immediately upon hearing his mother's question.

"What the hell? You can drink your own excrement and urine?" Liu Taohua was also completely bewildered. What on earth was this all about?

Zhang Xuemei was also exhausted, and waved her hands repeatedly, "Both of you, stop talking and be quiet for a while. By the way, where's Yuanyuan?"

"Oh, I left her with Grandma Zhao and asked her to watch her for a while. I'm in such a hurry that I can't take care of her."

Zhang Xuemei nodded without saying a word, simply leaning against the wall and quietly watching the operating room door. For a moment, none of the three dared to speak.

Strangely enough, there were only three of them waiting outside the operating room today, and the sudden silence was quite unsettling.

"Are Le Rong's family members here? Le Rong's family members." Suddenly, the operating room door opened halfway, and a nurse pushed out a small cart.

“Yes, it’s here.” Zhang Xuemei reacted quickly and stepped forward.

The nurse glanced at her and said, "Le Rong gave birth to a boy, weighing 8 pounds and 6 ounces. Both mother and child are safe. However, the baby was in murky amniotic fluid and has some infection. He needs to be transferred to the neonatal ward for observation for a few days. You can take a look now; I'm going upstairs right away."

As soon as the nurse finished speaking, the group immediately crowded around to examine the child closely. Fat, really fat—that was their first impression of the child.

"Nurse, why are we going somewhere else? The baby is perfectly fine."

Liu Taohua was overjoyed to see her chubby grandson. She felt that the child looked perfectly fine. Could it be that the hospital was just saying this to make more money?

Zhang Xuemei interrupted her mother, "Mom, if you don't understand, don't talk about it. Nurse, we've checked. You should take the baby to the neonatal ward right away!"

Seeing that Zhang Xuemei was reasonable, the nurse didn't say anything more and hurriedly pushed the child away.

Liu Taohua was still a little upset after being rejected by her daughter. "I think the hospital is lying. They said the child was infected. Isn't that great? You young people are easily fooled."

“Mom, you’re not a doctor, so don’t talk nonsense,” Zhang Xuemei sometimes felt helpless. Just like in her past life, when her mother was sick, she wouldn’t go to the hospital because she thought doctors would cheat her out of her money. She would rather find some folk remedies to take than believe what the doctor said.

When problems arise from the food, they cry and beg them to take them to the hospital. After they recover, they start saying it was because of a folk remedy they had taken before that worked. It's really infuriating.

"Mom, how dare you say that? You were the one who said it was nothing, so we didn't go to the hospital. Look, it almost turned into a disaster."

When Zhang Xueshan saw his mother saying such things, he couldn't help but complain. If his mother hadn't confidently said that she was experienced and that it would be fine even if she was past her due date, they wouldn't have been delayed for so long and almost harmed the child.

"Hey, you brat, you're blaming me now? I was just like this when I gave birth to your third sister, and she's doing just fine. How was I supposed to know that Xiao Rong would be different?" Liu Taohua didn't think it was her fault at all.

Just as Zhang Xuemei was about to say something, the operating room door opened again, and this time a large bed was wheeled out, on which lay Le Rong, who had just undergone surgery.

"You are Le Rong's family, right? The mother's surgery is over. You saw the baby just now, right? The baby didn't cry when it was first born. It only started crying after they suctioned out the phlegm and dirt. But it's not doing too well yet, so it will have to stay in the neonatal ward for a few days. Someone will contact you later. Now let's take the mother back to her ward."

"Okay, thank you, nurse."
