Chapter 78 Grandma, have you missed me?

As soon as Zhang Xuemei opened the door, Xu Panpan rushed in like a cannonball, calling out, "Grandma, Grandma, where are you?"

Grandma Liu was busy in the kitchen when she heard her eldest granddaughter's voice and came out from inside, "Panpan's home from school?"

As soon as Xu Panpan saw Granny Liu, her eyes reddened. She ran forward and hugged her waist tightly, saying in a muffled voice, "Grandma, I missed you so much! Did you miss me too?"

Grandma Liu stretched out her arms, unable to accept her eldest granddaughter's enthusiasm for a moment. "You silly child, Grandma's hands are all oily, be careful not to get them on you."

Xu Panpan pouted, looked up at Granny Liu, and asked in a coquettish tone, "Grandma, you still haven't said whether you missed me or not? Have you already forgotten about me?"

Looking at her granddaughter like that, Granny Liu's heart softened. Blushing, she whispered, "I've thought about it, how could I not miss you, my little rascal?" Goodness, it was quite embarrassing to say such mushy things for the first time.

Looking up, he saw his youngest son hiding to the side, covering his mouth and snickering. So he said fiercely, "Xu Mingjiang, what are you laughing at? Hurry up and go into the kitchen to help. Are you just standing there with your hands folded up like decorations?"

"Okay, coming right away." Xu Mingjiang knew his mother was embarrassed, so he shrugged and dashed into the kitchen to help out.

"Alright, Panpan, stop bothering Grandma. Go wash your hands and drink some water. Dinner will be ready soon." Zhang Xuemei patted her daughter's head, helped her take off her backpack, and urged her to wash her hands.

At the dinner table, Xu Mingwan also told her brother and sister-in-law about Zhao Juan's incident that day, hoping to prepare them mentally.

"Why are you still sticking to me like a leech?" Zhang Xuemei said unhappily, frowning. She didn't think much of Zhao Juan and her husband to begin with, and then she found out from her husband that they were the ones who reported them, which made Zhang Xuemei hate them even more.

"Who are you talking about?" Granny Liu couldn't help but interject as she watched them talking so enthusiastically.

Seeing that Granny Liu looked curious, Xu Mingwan told her all about the grudges and grievances between her family and Zhao Juan and her husband.

Granny Liu looked worried and asked, "They didn't steal your braised food recipe, so they're not thinking of doing something underhanded, are they?"

"Who knows? Anyway, we've taken good care of the hygiene, so even if they try something underhanded, it won't work." Xu Minghan has always been very particular about food hygiene, just in case someone gets diarrhea and then comes looking for trouble.

However, the matter of He Da and his wife reporting them could not be left unresolved; he had to retaliate in a small way.

While eating, Granny Liu suddenly remembered what had happened that morning. She was quite happy to see her third daughter-in-law as soon as she got out of the car, but then it dawned on her—hadn't she said she had broken her leg? How come she looks like she can run and jump right now? She immediately realized she had been tricked.

She's been here so long without an explanation. Does she really think she's so easy to fool? Thinking this, a hint of emotion crept onto his face.

Zhang Xuemei looked up and saw her mother-in-law's sullen face. She realized that it was because she had lied to her that her mother-in-law was unhappy. So she explained, "Mom, I want to apologize to you first. It was my fault. I shouldn't have lied to you. But I had no choice. I wanted to earn more money in the next few days. There won't be another chance if more people follow suit."

“That’s right, Mom, your sister-in-law is just trying to make money, so please don’t be angry,” Xu Mingwan chimed in, trying to persuade her.

"Mom, I know about Xuemei's situation. Don't blame her. I was the one who gave her the idea. If you want to blame someone, blame me!" Xu Minghan immediately took the blame upon himself.

Granny Liu glanced at them and said unhappily, "You're all afraid I'll get angry, so why did you lie in the first place? Do you think your mother is such an unreasonable person? If you had told me the truth, would I have refused to come?"

Even though the old man might really not want her to come, we can't lie to her about this!

Zhang Xuemei nodded repeatedly in apology, "Mom, I know I was wrong. I'll tell you directly about anything from now on, and I won't do it again."

Seeing her daughter-in-law's apologetic attitude, Granny Liu nodded in satisfaction. "Alright, I'm not an unreasonable person. Let's eat!"

...

Zhao Jiaxing hadn't had time to experiment with Xu Minghan's recipe for wolf tooth potatoes since he got it. But today it was raining, and he also received the wavy knife he had ordered before, so he decided to give it a try.

Wu Yu peeled the potatoes, while Zhao Jiaxing used the newly acquired wavy knife to cut them. The cut potato strips were then soaked in water and that was it.

"Honey, take out the piece of paper Xu Minghan gave me. Let's get the seasonings ready first."

Wu Yu washed her hands, took out the note written by Xu Minghan from the cabinet in the room, and prepared the seasonings according to the instructions.

Zhao Jiaxing would scoop the potato strips out of the water and drain them before frying them in the hot oil.

"Wait, don't rush to turn it over. Xu Minghan said we need to set the shape first, otherwise it will easily rot."

"Oh dear, I almost forgot. You have such a good memory, my wife."

After frying for about two or three minutes, the potato strips were golden brown, and Zhao Jiaxing used a slotted spoon to scoop them into an empty stainless steel basin.

"You know what, these wavy potato strips do look more appetizing than straight-cut ones. Quick, sprinkle in the seasoning and mix it up. Let me see if it tastes right."

Wu Yu poured the seasonings onto the potato strips, then took a small spoon and gently stirred them, making sure each potato strip remained intact.

As soon as Zhao Jiaxing saw his wife put down the small spoon, he immediately grabbed a spoonful with his hand and put it in his mouth. He chewed it and savored the aroma so much that he sucked the sauce off both of his fingers.

"Mmm, delicious. It tastes just like the ones I get at Xu Minghan's place. Great, really great. I have a feeling it will be a huge hit when I set it up tomorrow."
