Chapter 29: Settling Down (Part 3)

Chapter 29: Settling Down (Part 3)

Seeing that Liu Xiaofeng refused to accept the hairpin and the hairband, Lu Xiaoxiao walked over and put the hairpin on Liu Xiaofeng's head, then said, "Sister Xiaofeng, you look so good in this hairpin, it suits you very well. This is the first time I give you a gift, you can't refuse it. Don't worry, I still have this hairpin and the hairband, but you see, it doesn't suit my hair."

Lu Xiaoxiao laughed when she talked about her hair. Before going to the countryside, she went to the barber shop and asked the barber to cut her hair short so that she could tie it into two small pigtails. However, the barber probably didn't understand what pigtails were, so he cut her hair so short that she could only tie it into two small pigtails.

When Lu Xiaoxiao saw the effect of the haircut, she was too tired to complain. Fortunately, she is young now and has baby fat on her face, which makes her look cute.

After hearing what Lu Xiaoxiao said, Liu Xiaofeng had no choice but to accept the things, and then she carefully placed them in the drawer of the kang cabinet.

Liu Xiaofeng saw that it was getting late, so she said to Lu Xiaoxiao, "It's getting late now, it's time to spread out the quilt and go to bed."

After hearing what Liu Xiaofeng said, Lu Xiaoxiao took the quilt out of the bag. This was the original owner's quilt, which was packed by Aunt Zhang. Now it was not convenient for her to use the down quilt in the space, so she could only cover herself with the original owner's quilt tonight. Forget about going into the space to take a shower. She could only endure it for one night and find a chance to go into the space to take a shower tomorrow. This was also one of the reasons why she wanted to live alone, otherwise it would be too inconvenient.

After Lu Xiaoxiao made the quilt, she got into it. When she saw Liu Xiaofeng turn off the kerosene lamp, she also got into the quilt and went to sleep.

At first Lu Xiaoxiao thought it would be difficult for her to fall asleep, but unexpectedly she fell asleep on the warm kang in a short while.

The next day, Lu Xiaoxiao was awakened by the crowing of a rooster. She crawled out of bed and saw that Liu Xiaofeng was no longer in the room. Lu Xiaoxiao didn't expect that she would sleep so soundly.

After getting up, Lu Xiaoxiao folded the quilt, took out the enamel cup and towel from her bag and went out to wash. She got a small wooden basin from Aunt Caihua, went to the kitchen, filled it with some hot water, and went to the yard to wash.

After Lu Xiaoxiao finished washing up, she did not see Wang Gang and the captain, and she didn't know where Wang Gang and the captain had gone so early in the morning.

It was almost time for breakfast when Lu Xiaoxiao saw Wang Gang and the team leader coming back. Wang Gang told her that he, the team leader and the team leader's three sons had gone to help her clean up the yard. The roof had already been built. After dinner, they would take her to the team to complete the procedures for the house. Then they would raise the courtyard wall by half a meter, repair the kang and the toilet in the afternoon, and then go to the home of a fellow villager who was a carpenter introduced by the team leader to buy some furniture. They would be able to move in the day after tomorrow.

After hearing what Wang Gang said, Lu Xiaoxiao thought to herself that it was great. Although the people in the captain's family were easy to get along with, it was always inconvenient at other people's homes and it was not as comfortable as one's own home.

But isn't it bad to always ask others for help like this? So Lu Xiaoxiao secretly pulled Wang Gang's clothes and asked him to go to the corner of the yard with her.

Lu Xiaoxiao came to the corner and said to Wang Gang, "Uncle Wang, isn't it a bit bad to keep the captain's family busy all the time? Should we pay them?"

After hearing what Lu Xiaoxiao said, Wang Gang smiled and said, "You are a young person but you have a lot to worry about. You don't have to worry about bothering them. I, your uncle, promised to introduce someone to their family as a temporary worker in the clothing factory. They are now worried that you don't have anything to ask them for help."

Lu Xiaoxiao felt like crying after hearing what Wang Gang said. You know, it is almost harder than climbing to heaven for farmers to work in the city now. Although it is only a temporary worker's position, it is not much easier to get it than a regular worker. There are so many personal connections involved. Wang Gang is only the sworn brother of the original owner's father. Many real brothers may not be able to do this.

Wang Gang saw that Lu Xiaoxiao was about to cry, so he reached out and touched Lu Xiaoxiao's head and said, "Don't think too much. Compared to your father, what your uncle did is insignificant. If it weren't for your father, your uncle would have died long ago."
