Chapter 48: Going to the Market (Part 3)
After half an hour of bumpy ride, the oxcart finally arrived at the market place. All of a sudden, everyone on the cart got off and left. Lu Xiaoxiao looked at Aunt Caihua and asked, "Aunt, did you bring anything to exchange today?"
Aunt Caihua took an empty basket from the oxcart and put it on her shoulder and replied, "I didn't bring anything here today. I just want to exchange some things with others. Do you want to exchange anything?"
"I don't know what to change yet, but I haven't seen Ganji before and want to come and have a look. If I see something I like, I'll change it later."
"Well, that's fine, but there are so many people here, so you have to follow me closely." After saying that, she took Lu Xiaoxiao towards the market.
When Lu Xiaoxiao arrived at the market, she saw all kinds of things displayed on the ground. There was really everything. She followed Aunt Cauliflower, walking and looking around.
Not long after walking, Lu Xiaoxiao saw Aunt Caihua stop at a place where homespun cloth was displayed. Aunt Caihua then exchanged six dollars for a piece of cloth and asked her if she wanted it. After she answered no, Aunt Caihua took her and continued walking forward.
Lu Xiaoxiao shopped for a long time and although there were many things, there was nothing she wanted to exchange. Aunt Cauliflower exchanged several items, and it seemed like she was going to go on a shopping spree today. It turned out that a woman could not avoid shopping no matter what the environment or time.
Lu Xiaoxiao continued walking and looking, and suddenly she saw an old lady not far away with a lot of insoles and shoes in front of her, all of which were embroidered with beautiful patterns. She pulled Aunt Cauliflower's sleeve with her hand, indicating that she wanted to go there and take a look.
Lu Xiaoxiao walked to the stall, squatted down, took out a pair of insoles embroidered with rose patterns and asked, "Grandma, did you make these insoles yourself? The patterns on them are so beautiful."
When Mrs. Chen heard Lu Xiaoxiao praising her things, she immediately smiled and said, "I made these insoles, but the patterns on them were embroidered by my granddaughter-in-law. I can't do such delicate work."
After listening to what Mrs. Chen said, Lu Xiaoxiao asked for a pair of cloth shoes with plum blossoms embroidered on a black background and lotus flowers embroidered on a blue background, and two pairs of insoles embroidered with roses and peonies. The shoes cost six yuan a pair and the insoles cost fifty cents a pair, so she spent a total of fourteen yuan.
When Mrs. Chen saw that Lu Xiaoxiao asked for so many things, she gave her a pair of insoles embroidered with plum blossoms.
Aunt Cauliflower saw Lu Xiaoxiao buying so many shoes and insoles and immediately said, "Why did you buy such old shoes when they are so expensive? If you don't know how to make shoes and insoles, bring them to me and I'll help you. Why waste all that money?"
After hearing what Aunt Cauliflower said, Lu Xiaoxiao knew that she was thinking about her. To be honest, she really thought that the insole of the shoe was not expensive, and the pattern embroidered on it was particularly delicate and spiritual. It was not like the ones made by machines in later generations, which were also delicate but monotonous and always felt like something was missing.
Along the way, Lu Xiaoxiao listened to Aunt Caihua talking about trivial things while continuing to walk around. She saw a stall in front of her with frozen pears, so she asked, "Aunt, do you have frozen pears?"
"We don't have that stuff. Fruits are rare nowadays. If there were any, we would have shared them and eaten them. There's no way we would use them to make these fancy things."
After hearing what Aunt Caihua said, Lu Xiaoxiao reached out and pulled her, then pointed to the frozen pear stall and told her that she wanted to go there to exchange for frozen pears.
I have to say that fruits are really expensive nowadays. A frozen pear costs 30 cents. You should know that a pound of meat only costs 80 cents now. She exchanged two to try the taste. If they are delicious, she will take the pears out of the space and bury them in the snow to make frozen pears.
After Lu Xiaoxiao walked around the entire street of the market, she exchanged her shoe insoles and frozen pears, and did not exchange anything else. Aunt Cauliflower, on the other hand, exchanged a basket of miscellaneous items and held a piece of cloth in her hands. I guess she was buying New Year's goods.
Lu Xiaoxiao guessed that Aunt Caihua was thinking that it was so rare to come across a fair that didn't require tickets, and it would be stupid if she couldn't exchange them all the time. Such an opportunity might never come again in the future.
La la la, today is the second update. I wonder if my little cuties have ever eaten frozen pears?
