Chapter 9: Rebirth as an Orphan (Part 3)
The first thing Lu Xiaoxiao went to handle was how to receive the pension and how to receive subsidies in the future. On the way there, Lu Xiaoxiao asked Zhang De to help her apply for two passbooks, one with 500 yuan in it and the other with 31,000 yuan in it, and the remaining 500 yuan could be taken out and kept for future use.
Zhang De smiled with relief when he saw Lu Xiaoxiao's success. He told Lu Xiaoxiao that the pension announced by the team to the outside world was 1,000 yuan, and he was afraid that someone would harm her for the money if she possessed a treasure.
Lu Xiaoxiao and Zhang De arrived at the office after talking for a while, and with someone leading the way, things were done quickly.
When she was holding three newly-made small notebooks and five bundles of big unity, two of the notebooks were passbooks and the other was a certificate for receiving subsidies. With these, she could receive 32 yuan, 30 kilograms of food and various tickets every month.
Lu Xiaoxiao looked around and saw that there was no one around and quickly put the things into her bag. In fact, she put the things into the space. After all, no place is as safe as space.
She looked at Zhang De who was walking towards her after talking to the person in charge, and told him that her father had reserved a house for her, so she would no longer be a burden to the team and could just live there.
When Zhang De heard Lu Xiaoxiao say this, he nodded in agreement. After sending Lu Xiaoxiao home, he told Lu Xiaoxiao that he would take a leave of absence tomorrow and go to the house with her to see if it was safe and if there was anything that needed repairing. Once it was fixed, he would let her move in.
After Lu Xiaoxiao sent Uncle Zhang away, she took out her watch from the space and looked at the time. It was already past five in the afternoon. She was tired after a day and didn't want to cook, so she took out a portion of preserved eggs and lean meat from the space for dinner.
After drinking the porridge, Lu Xiaoxiao rested for a while, took a shower and went to bed.
The next morning at 6:30, Lu Xiaoxiao woke up, washed up, drank a glass of milk and felt full. She packed the things she would need for the day and sat on a stool waiting for someone.
Not long after, Lu Xiaoxiao saw Zhang De coming. She locked the door, told Zhang De the address, and got on his bicycle to go to the house together.
It took Lu Xiaoxiao about ten minutes to reach her destination. She didn't even look inside the house, as she thought the location was great.
Lu Xiaoxiao used the key to open the door and walked in to find that it was actually a small courtyard house. The house had only one entrance and the front yard was paved with bricks. There were only two trees planted on the left and right sides. It was winter and all the leaves had fallen off, so it was impossible to tell what kind of trees they were.
There are three main rooms directly in front, and two side rooms on each side. Maybe the original owner's parents often came to clean, so apart from a little dust everything else is intact. You can move in after a simple cleaning.
Lu Xiaoxiao and Zhang De spent the whole morning cleaning the house. They planned to buy what they needed in the afternoon and move in the next day.
She thought that there was actually nothing good to buy. All she could think of was spending one dollar and a coal ticket to buy a cart of coal. The coal was used to burn the stove. Without coal, the house would be too cold. The temperature in winter was several degrees below zero.
Another thing was that she had to ask Uncle Zhang to help her bring back the coal in one go, otherwise her small body wouldn't be able to do it, and that truckload of coal would be enough to cost her her life.
She suddenly thought of the various tickets issued today. It seemed that she had to use up all the tickets issued this month as soon as possible.
It was already evening when Lu Xiaoxiao and Zhang De finished cleaning. She couldn't resist Zhang De's invitation to dinner, so she had to go back to his house with him.
On the way to Zhang De's house, Lu Xiaoxiao secretly used her mind to find a few beautiful hairbands and two handkerchiefs embroidered with peach blossoms from the space and put them into the small cloth bag she carried with her. These could just be given to her aunt and her daughter. She couldn't possibly come to their house for dinner without bringing anything. You have to know how precious food was in that era. She couldn't take other people's kindness to her for granted. Feelings are mutual, and it's impossible for one party to give and the other to receive all the time.
