Counterattack
Meng Qingze pushed Chen Miao forcefully with his small hands, trying to push him out the door. Children's thoughts are always the simplest and most innocent. He thought that as long as Chen Miao got out of that door, there would be no problem.
But the monks were naturally much faster than the child. They closed the door first and stood in front of it, their eyes fierce as they stared intently at Chen Miao's back.
One of them pointed at Meng Qingze, who was standing at Chen Miao's feet, and said, "This child has been blinded by the evil spirit. He listens to everything the evil spirit says and even wants to help him escape."
Meng Qingze was so angry that tears welled up in her eyes. She was so upset that she could hardly speak, but she still gritted her teeth and said, "Brother Sanshui is not like what you say! You are the bad guys who broke into the house!"
“We are at least human, but he is a demon!” the monk said, seizing on the key point in Meng Qingze’s words.
They took Gu Yuan's money, so naturally they were just doing his bidding and didn't care what the task was. Even if they were to make things difficult for a child like this, they wouldn't think anything of it.
Yet they often spout those truths and compassions, putting on a show of saving all living beings and showing mercy to suffering.
A perfectly good reputation for integrity has been ruined by these kinds of people.
Chen Miao squatted down and looked at Meng Qingze, who was pursing her lips. At this moment, all the worries in his heart were destroyed. He had never seen this child so sad.
"Okay, stop crying." Chen Miao gently wiped away the tears from the corners of his eyes with her cool fingers and whispered in his ear, "Don't worry about me. Trust me, I will protect myself, and I will protect you and Mom. We will all be fine."
Seeing him talking to Meng Qingze, Sun Shuhan pretended to be scared. Holding a pomelo leaf in one hand and a talisman in the other, she turned around and came behind Meng Qingze. With the pomelo leaf in her hand free, she grabbed his arm and tried to pull him toward her.
Chen Miao reacted quickly, pulling Meng Qingze into his arms. Although he bent one knee and was at eye level with Meng Qingze, he was in no way inferior to Sun Shuhan and the others in terms of imposing presence.
His inherent arrogance could not be concealed; this place, this house, was rightfully his domain.
"No need for this fake concern. I never see you, the nominal grandmother, showing any concern for the child normally, but now you're suddenly doing it." Chen Miao's words were sharp and merciless. "You'd be quite suited to acting."
Sun Shuhan felt as if her Achilles' heel had been struck, so angry she couldn't speak. She could only point at him for a long time before finally managing to utter, "You...you..."
Gu Yuan slowly walked forward to confront Chen Miao, gesturing for Sun Shuhan to step back and keep an eye on Yu Xi.
"Chen—Miao—" His voice was drawn out, and at the same time Chen Miao cautiously pulled Meng Qingze's hand and led him to Yu Xi's side.
Gu Yuan smiled and said, "I think we met a long time ago. I can never forget your sudden appearance that day."
"I just couldn't understand it. With so many bodyguards and smart home appliances running 24/7, how could they not notice if a stranger entered?"
“I was wondering why I couldn’t see you on the security camera.” Gu Yuan stroked his chin, looking thoughtful. “I still can’t figure out how you broke in and how you got out.”
“If all other approaches fail, then there’s only one conclusion.” He spread his hands, reasoning at lightning speed, “That is, you’re not a living person at all, but a ghost.”
Hearing this, Chen Miao couldn't help but laugh and said, "Looks like you're not so stupid after all!"
He didn't wait for the others to interrogate him about his identity, but instead directly admitted it, "Yes, that's right."
Chen Miao looked around at the group and sneered, "You guessed right, I am a ghost."
Yu Xi had been carefully observing his expression, and when she guessed he was about to say those words, she covered Meng Qingze's ears in advance. She knew Meng Qingze liked Chen Miao, but he was still too young; it would be too cruel to force him into adult conflicts.
As for Chen Miao's true identity, she had no way of explaining it to Meng Qingze, nor did she know how.
“Take Zeze back to his own bedroom,” Yu Xi said, turning to the housekeeper standing not far away.
Chen Miao cooperated with her perfectly. Only after watching Meng Qingze's figure disappear around the corner of the stairs leading to the second floor did he continue, "It's the wronged soul that died tragically at your hands. It can't close its eyes in the underworld. Even the ghost messengers think I was wronged and sent me back to seek revenge on you."
With each sentence he spoke, he took a step closer to Gu Yuan, who unconsciously retreated.
When Gu Yuan faced Chen Miao again, the scene from that day flashed before his eyes, and a layer of cold sweat broke out on his forehead. He knew in his heart that he had indeed caused quite a few deaths.
Many of these were his secret schemes, solely for the sake of the open and covert struggles in the business world.
Sun Shuhan was in no better condition than him; she clutched the talisman tightly in her hand as if it were her only lifeline.
"What? Scared?" Chen Miao laughed smugly. "Afraid I'll come after you for your lives? So you can be scared too? You all put on such a glamorous act in front of others, but behind closed doors you're all evil ghosts with your hypocritical masks torn off."
“I am a ghost, but I am much better than you evil spirits.”
The abbot, holding prayer beads in his hand, pointed at him and shouted, "You evil spirit, how dare you run wild here! I'll subdue you and make you vanish into thin air!"
"Let's see who dares to touch him!" Yu Xi shouted, spreading her arms to block Chen Miao.
The monks who were about to make a move were startled by her sudden action. They all held up their 'ritual implements' and stood still, not daring to make any further moves.
No one present was stupid. From Yu Xi's attire and the way she addressed the employers, they could roughly guess her status and position. Therefore, no one dared to make the first move.
Sun Shuhan disliked Yu Xi in the first place, but now that she saw Yu Xi protecting Chen Miao, her fear disappeared instantly. She took two steps forward and reached out to try to pull Yu Xi away, but Yu Xi grabbed her arm.
"What else do you want? This is my house. Did I give you permission to come in?" Yu Xi was no longer the Yu Xi who would only hide behind Meng Chou five years ago and was still afraid of her.
She now has her own career and her own voice.
Sun Shuhan tried to break free from her grasp, but no matter how hard she tried, she couldn't shake off Yu Xi's hold. "Your house? Wasn't your house bought for you by Meng Chou?"
"No matter what, he still has to call me 'Mom'," Sun Shuhan said arrogantly. "Even if you married him, you still have to call me 'Mom.' As his mother, do I need to greet you when I come to my son's house?"
"What, is this some kind of tourist attraction that I need to make a reservation in advance?"
Yu Xi grasped her wrist, not with force but unwilling to let go, and pulled her aside. "Yes, this is the house he bought for me, for me and the child."
"You say you're his mother in name only, but I remember Meng Chou's real mother passed away a long time ago. So who are you?"
After finishing her sentence, Sun Shuhan turned to look at Gu Yuan, grabbed the incense burner on the table, and threw it at him. Gu Yuan was unable to dodge in time and was hit hard on the forehead, immediately clutching his head and falling to the ground.
"And you, Mr. Gu, I only call you Mr. Gu out of respect for Grandpa Gu." She approached Gu Yuan step by step, holding the pomelo leaf she had snatched from Sun Shuhan's hand. "Don't you know it's very impolite to barge into someone's home without their invitation?"
As Yu Xi spoke, she flicked her hand, scattering pomelo leaves all over Gu Yuan's face as he was about to look up and retort.
Gu Yuan's forehead instantly became flushed and swollen, the pain turning into resentment, which eventually made him furious. But before he could utter a curse, Yu Xi poured black dog blood all over him, leaving him in a sorry state.
"If you dare say another word, I can make you come in upright and leave horizontally."
Yu Xi had weathered countless storms, and over the years, she had witnessed far more maddening scenes than this.
Seeing her act so recklessly, the abbot and his monks dared not make a move. They all knew that if Gu Yuan and Sun Shuhan hadn't offered them such a large sum of money, they wouldn't have bothered to do these things.
Yu Xi looked at them with a sinister gaze, her thin glasses unable to conceal her sharp eyes. "Aren't you leaving? Do you want me to ask you to leave?"
As soon as she finished speaking, the door opened again, and the driver led a team of bodyguards out. The men in black suits consciously split into two groups and stood straight in the center of the hall, saying in unison, "Mr. Yu, please feel free to give us any instructions."
The previously tense atmosphere was shattered by this burst of angry shouts.
"Go, all of you, go!" The abbot pretended to reprimand his men, frantically gesturing for them to leave. "Amitabha, we came here on the advice of that benefactor, but we never expected such a thing to happen. We have caused you so much trouble."
Yu Xi smiled without replying, and it was this soft laugh that powerfully pierced through their hypocritical masks.
"I'm not in a good mood today, so I won't keep you for dinner." She waved her hand, and two bodyguards stepped forward to signal Sun Shuhan and Gu Yuan to leave.
"see a visitor out!"
The crowd scattered and left, leaving the house in chaos. Talismans were pasted everywhere. She walked to the large arched window and frantically tore at the talismans.
Chen Miao remained silent, simply helping her clean up these things.
"So, you're not afraid of these things, right?" Yu Xi suddenly asked.
Chen Miao nodded, "These are all paintings they made to make dirty money, so they can't become real and are useless to me."
"What would you have done if I hadn't come back with you today?"
Chen Miao hadn't really considered this question. He pondered it seriously, "Perhaps we'll break ties with them and fight to the death."
"But don't worry. No matter what happens to me, I will definitely protect Zeze."
Yu Xi lowered her head, the light coming through the window falling behind her. Standing in that light, she said to Chen Miao, "Then you can leave! I don't have any wishes for you to fulfill now, and I don't need your help anymore."
